I think this move by Safeway is a bit extreme, don't you? I mean, these kids are just juveniles, they're still learning about the consequences of their actions. Prosecuting them could have long-term effects on their lives, you know?

They might not even realize what they've done, and now they're facing serious charges.
I'm all for retailers taking shoplifting seriously, but is this really necessary? Can't they just offer alternative punishment, like community service or something? It seems like a lot of stress on the kids involved. And what about their families? Will they be affected by these charges too?
It's also worth considering that maybe there are other factors at play here, like poverty or lack of opportunities. Maybe these kids didn't know any better because they didn't have much support in their lives.

Either way, I think it's time to rethink our approach to dealing with shoplifting and find more balanced solutions.
