I'm all for trying new things in our community emergency response system
. But I gotta wonder how we're gonna make sure these community safety workers are properly trained and supported? I mean, they'll be dealing with some pretty intense situations on a daily basis - anxiety attacks, suicidal thoughts, and whatnot
. We need to make sure they've got the right tools and resources to keep them safe, or it's all just gonna fall apart
.
And have we thought this through enough? I know we want to reduce NYPD overtime costs, but are we prepared for the potential backlash if things don't go as planned? I'm not saying it can't work out, but we gotta be realistic here
. I'd love to see some more discussion around the potential risks and benefits before this bill even gets voted on
.
I do like the idea of community-led initiatives taking a more proactive role in preventing violence, though
. If we can make that happen without putting anyone at risk, then I'm all for it
.
