'Landslide': Santana beats out Baker, Wu says, while Culpepper wins D7

Boston City Council Sees Minimal Change as Incumbents Retain Seats in Landslide Victories.

In a relatively uneventful election season, the Boston City Council's at-large seats saw a turnover of familiar faces, with most incumbents easily defeating their opponents. However, a key seat changed hands when Rev. Miniard Culpepper, a newcomer to the council, secured the District 7 seat that was previously held by Tania Fernandes Anderson.

According to unofficial city results as of 11:30 pm on Tuesday night, Henry Santana will retain his at-large seat after defeating former Councilor Frank Baker in a landslide victory. Mayor Michelle Wu confirmed Santana's win, stating that he came in fourth place with an overwhelming re-election margin.

Wu expressed her support for Santana during an election night party, saying "City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune was the clear ticket topper... City Councilor Henry Santana – overwhelmingly reelected in a landslide." Her comments were met with cheers from supporters and fans of the mayor's coalition.

While Santana emerged victorious, Baker's defeat leaves open the possibility for future challenges to his seat. Wu, who won her second term as mayor, appeared to capitalize on Baker's loss by securing Santana's endorsement.

As expected, most district councilors handily defeated their opponents in their re-election bids. These winners include: Gabriela Coletta Zapata (District 1), Ed Flynn (District 2), Brian Worrell (District 4), Enrique PepΓ©n (District 5), Ben Weber (District 6), and Liz Breadon (District 9). Sharon Durkan, who ran unopposed for District 8, will also return to the council.

The election results indicate that Boston City Council will continue to function as it has in recent years, with minimal changes expected.

Meh, just another bunch of old faces retaining their seats πŸ™ƒπŸ˜’. I mean, great job to Rev. Culpepper for finally breaking into the council - about time we had some fresh perspectives around here 😊. Henry Santana's win is no surprise, though - he's been coasting on his charm and good ol' boy network for years πŸ’ͺ. Meanwhile, poor Frank Baker's like a participation trophy πŸŽ‰ - congrats on not losing by a landslide! And let's give props to the mayor for playing it safe with her coalition 😏. Not exactly a shake-up in Boston politics... again πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

Just went through the voting numbers and I'm actually kinda surprised that nothing big happened this time around πŸ€”...I mean, I was expecting more shake-ups on the council given all the buzz about some folks wanting change, but it seems like business as usual πŸ’Ό. Don't get me wrong, Rev. Culpepper's win is cool for a fresh face and all, but it feels like we're stuck in a loop πŸ”„. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from our city leaders, but still...it'd be nice to see some real growth happening here πŸ‘€

omg i'm so confused... like what's up with Henry Santana winning by a landslide and still being part of the mayor's coalition? πŸ€” doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of having opposition? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ anyway, congrats to Rev. Miniard Culpepper on his win in District 7 tho! πŸ‘

omg u gotta feel for frank baker πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ, he just got outplayed by santana... like, i get it, Santana's a solid candidate, but still, bakers campaign wasn't half bad πŸ€‘. and idk about wu using bakers loss to her advantage, seems kinda petty πŸ˜’. anywayz, its good 2 c most of the councilors getting reelected, at least we know what 2 expect from them πŸ€”.

😐 just another uneventful city council election where most of the incumbents coasted to re-election πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, what's the point of even having elections if you're not gonna shake things up a bit? πŸ™„ it's like business as usual in Boston πŸ‘Ž

I'm kinda surprised by how much of a difference Rev. Miniard Culpepper made in the elections πŸ€”. I mean, he's not even from Boston and was a total newcomer, but somehow he managed to take down Tania Fernandes Anderson πŸ™Œ. Not sure what the mayor's coalition has planned with this guy, but I'm curious to see how he'll fit in on the council πŸ’¬. Meanwhile, Henry Santana just cruised through re-election 😐, and it looks like the Boston City Council is gonna stay pretty much the same as before πŸ‘€.

I'm not surprised about this at all πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Politicians being politicians, you know? They're just doing what they do best - maintain the status quo 😴. It's like they say: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" πŸ’Έ. Anyway, it's good to see some fresh faces on the council, like Rev. Culpepper in District 7 πŸ‘. Maybe he'll bring some new ideas to the table πŸ“š. But overall, I'm not too excited about this outcome 😐. Guess we're stuck with more of the same old politics πŸ’”.

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s kinda weird how much Santana won by πŸ€”. Like, 4th place is supposed to be a safe seat or something? But yeah, congrats to him and the mayor for securing his endorsement deal πŸ’Έ. And honestly, I'm not gonna lie, I was expecting some bigger shake-ups on the council... but I guess old habits die hard, right? 😊
