Cloudflare defies Italy’s Piracy Shield, won’t block websites on 1.1.1.1 DNS

Ugh, I'm so fed up with these companies being fined for not wanting to block pirate sites 🙄. Cloudflare's reasoning makes sense, by the way - do we really want to compromise DNS resolution just because of a few copyright holders complaining? I mean, what's next? A fine for every website that doesn't have an EU office? 😒

And what's with Italy's Piracy Shield law anyway? It sounds like it was written by a bunch of bureaucrats who think they know better than everyone else online 🤦‍♂️. All these reports about "hundreds of legitimate websites" being affected by the blocking are just an excuse to force companies to do what they want, I reckon.

I'm all for protecting creators' rights, but not at the cost of freedom of expression and internet security 🚫. Can't we find a better way to deal with piracy that doesn't involve fines and threats of service withdrawal? This whole thing just smells like a money-grab to me 💸.

I gotta say, I feel kinda bad for Cloudflare 🤔. They're just trying to do their job and protect themselves from potential lawsuits, you know? The €14.2 million fine is huge, though 💸. I think it's unfair that they have to pay such a big fine just because AGCOM says so 🙄.

I mean, what if they did block all those pirate sites and it caused problems for legitimate websites too? Wouldn't that be a bigger issue? 😬 But no, Cloudflare is getting the fine 💥. And now they're threatening to pull out of Italy, which would be a shame considering their pro bono services for the Olympics 🏅.

I'm also kinda curious about this "shadowy European media cabal" thing that Matthew Prince said on Twitter 😳. I don't think that's exactly fair or accurate 🙃. It just shows how passionate he is about this issue, you know? 💖

Anyway, I hope Cloudflare can fight the fine and find a way to resolve this situation without hurting Italian businesses or internet users too much 🤞.

I'm so worried about this 🤯. It's like Italy's trying to control everything online! Cloudflare has a right to say no to blocking pirate sites, it could slow down their entire service and affect legit websites too 📊. And what if they get fined 2% of their turnover? That's crazy 💸.

I don't agree with the Italian government's Piracy Shield law at all 😒. It's not fair on companies like Cloudflare who want to do good but can't because of bureaucratic red tape 🚫. And what about those legit websites that get blocked by mistake? 🤦‍♀️ That's a total mess!

I think it's hilarious that Matthew Prince is trying to challenge the fine and threaten to pull out of Italy 😂. It's like, dude, you can't just say no to a law if you're gonna get fined 🤑. But seriously, this is a big deal and I hope something gets changed soon 🤞.

I'm also kinda curious how AGCOM's law affects all the other countries that have similar laws 🤔. Are they all going to start blocking pirate sites too? 😬 That would be a disaster for the internet as we know it 💥.

🤔 I gotta say, this whole thing just feels like another example of governments trying to control everything online. Like, Italy's Piracy Shield law is already a problem, but now Cloudflare's refusing to play along and they're getting fined? It's just not right. I get that copyright holders want their stuff protected, but come on, how are they gonna block every pirate site in the world? 😂 And what about all those legit sites that get caught up in it? Like, hundreds of 'em? 🤦‍♂️

And let's be real, this law just feels like a way for governments to exert more control over the internet. I mean, if they can fine a big player like Cloudflare just because they won't comply, what's next? More censorship? 🔒 And it's not like Cloudflare's being unreasonable here - they're pointing out all these unintended consequences and lack of transparency... 👎

I'm kinda split on this one. On the one hand, I get that copyright holders have a right to protect their work. But on the other hand, I don't think we should be sacrificing freedom of speech and access to info just because some people don't want to share their content. 🤷‍♂️ What do you guys think? 💬

🤔 this whole thing is just crazy... cloudflare is like literally being forced to block pirate sites or they'll get fined 14 million euros 🤑 and now they're saying it's gonna affect legit websites too? doesn't that just sound like a recipe for disaster? 🚨

OMG, this fine is crazy! 😱 €14.2 million for refusing to block pirate sites? That's like, insane! 🤑 Cloudflare has every right to stand up for itself and not compromise its users' online experience.

I think it's ridiculous that AGCOM went ahead with the fine without considering the potential consequences on legitimate websites. It's not just about piracy, but also about freedom of information and online security. 💻

And what's with this "shadowy European media cabal" comment from Matthew Prince? 😂 That was a bit dramatic, mate! 🙄 But seriously, I think Cloudflare has every right to question the law and fight for its users' rights.

I'm a bit worried about the impact on Italy's internet infrastructure if Cloudflare pulls out. 💔 We need more transparency and due process in laws like this. It's not just about tech companies; it's about the people who use the internet every day. 🤝
