I'm so down for this , I mean who doesn't hate when those pesky seagulls swoop in and steal your chips? But seriously, it's kinda cool that scientists figured out that yelling might be the way to go. I can imagine being on a beach with a bunch of gulls trying to get into your picnic and just shouting at them until they fly away . 70% staying put for robin song tho? That's crazy! Birds really do listen to tones, right? Maybe they're just trying to avoid the annoying voice like I do when my partner clears their throat
I never would've thought of trying yelling at gulls to scare 'em away... it actually makes kinda sense? Like, they're already used to humans around 'em, so if you wanna get their attention without being all aggressive or violent, maybe just be loud and firm is the way to go? Not sure about the female voice thing tho
Ugh, can you believe those pesky seagulls? I mean, who wants their lunch stolen by some feathered thief?! Anyway, it's kinda cool that the study found yelling works better than talking to them in a normal voice. Like, what do they even say, "Oh, sorry mate, my food"? But seriously, using our voices as a tool to scare them away is like, super smart! And it's not like we're harming them or anything. I'm all for finding ways to peacefully coexist with wildlife, you feel? So, next time those gulls come sniffing around your bin, just give 'em a good shout-out and they'll be gone in a flash!
omg u gotta try this out lol if ur at the beach or park & ur got snacks in ur bag, just yell loudly at those pesky herring gulls they'll literally fly away fam! i mean it's not like u need to be loud but firm voice is key. heard that neutral tone voice didn't do much tho and robin song was a total fail . guess its all about being assertive & showing those gulls who's boss
I gotta say, I'm surprised by this one . Who knew yelling at gulls could be so effective? I mean, it makes sense that they'd fly away if someone's being aggressive towards them, but I didn't think it was something they'd actually associate with "this is my food" . But yeah, the study's finding that shouting is more effective than just speaking normally or using birdsong is pretty cool . Maybe next time I'm at the park and gulls start stealing food from me, I'll give 'em a shout . Just kidding! I'd rather use those peaceful methods they found to be effective .
