Where to Go Horseback Riding in California, From Wine Country to the Coast

California's Wine Country Rides: A Journey on Horseback Through Unspoiled Landscapes

Tucked away just south of Paso Robles' downtown area lies Santa Margarita Ranch, a sprawling 14,000-acre estate that seamlessly blends into the rolling hills and sun-kissed vineyards. Here, Central Coast Trailrides offers guided horseback rides through rugged terrain, immersing riders in a natural world teeming with wildlife such as bald eagles, deer, and other native species.

From creekside journeys to sunset vineyard rides, there's an array of options to suit every taste. However, the Tree Canopy Experience stands out for its unique finale, which unfolds into breathtaking views of vast quarry vineyards. Partnering with local winery Ancient Peaks, this ride offers the chance to sample a selection of wines – including a complimentary tasting flight of five vintages available until March 29.

For those seeking refuge from the riding adventure, Allegretto Vineyard Resort stands out as an idyllic retreat. This Tuscan-style haven boasts terracotta-tiled roofs, on-site vineyards, manicured lavender fields, and a premier spa to unwind in between rides. However, during the Year of the Horse, boutique Hotel Cheval takes center stage, boasting 16 rooms nestled in the heart of downtown Paso Robles.

In the evenings, riders can warm up with craft cocktails at Pony Club Bar & Lounge, an inviting gathering spot that feels like a tranquil retreat within the bustling city.

omg have you guys ever tried horseback riding? i did it last year and it was literally one of my fave things to do in california 🐴😍 i felt so connected to nature, like we were just chillin' in the wilderness or something. and speaking of wilderness, have you seen that new show 'talking with trees' on netflix? no? πŸ˜‚ apparently they're gonna be showing how trees communicate with each other through fungi 🀯 anyway, it got me thinking about my own backyard and the weird fungus growing on the old oak tree over there... need to get some pics of it for instagram πŸ“Έ

People always talk about Napa Valley but Paso Robles is where it's at for me. The scenery is insane and you can tell they're not trying to mass produce anything there, just letting nature thrive. And have you seen the Tree Canopy Experience? It's like something out of a movie 🌲🍷 Sampling those wines sounds like a dream come true, and pairing it with a spa day at Allegretto Vineyard Resort sounds like the ultimate relaxation mode πŸ˜΄πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ I'm definitely adding Paso Robles to my bucket list now! πŸ‘
