Welcome to the great unwokening of Hollywood! Shame no one can be bothered to turn up | Jason Okundaye

Conservatives Seize the Stage: Can They Sustain Popularity?

In recent months, a new wave of conservative cultural influence has swept across the globe. It began with a simple T-shirt – a "Reagan-Bush '84" tee that's become a staple among young right-wing enthusiasts in America. The casual display of conservative aesthetics was reminiscent of a New York magazine cover from earlier this year, which showcased young conservatives celebrating their cultural dominance.

According to journalist Brock Colyar, conservatism is making a comeback as a cultural force, not just a political ideology. This shift has been echoed in Britain with debates about the BBC's "wokeness." The US right has long sought to control culture, frustrated by the liberal-left orthodoxy in the arts. However, can they sustain this momentum?

The recent controversy surrounding actress Sydney Sweeney and her film Christy has raised questions about the conservative movement's ability to dominate Hollywood. While some critics have hailed Sweeney as a symbol of traditional beauty standards, others have accused her of flirting with white supremacist eugenics.

In an interview with GQ, Sweeney seemed dismissive of the criticism, stating that she only speaks out on issues when people will "hear." However, this response has been met with skepticism by right-wing zealots, who see her as leading the great unwokening of Hollywood – a celebration of unapologetic conservatism.

But can the conservative movement sustain its momentum? Despite some electoral successes, it's clear that cultural dominance is not so easily achieved. The art world is driven by diverse voices and perspectives, making it challenging for any single ideology to dominate.

The recent box office performance of Sweeney's film, Christy, has also raised questions about the conservative movement's ability to connect with a broader audience. While some critics have praised the film, others have panned it as a box-office bomb.

Ultimately, people will queue up for what they want to watch and listen to – not based on ideological affiliations but on artistic merit. Perhaps Sweeney should focus on showcasing her films rather than her personal views. After all, great art is about expanding our worlds, not shrinking them.

As the cultural landscape continues to evolve, it's clear that the conservative movement faces an uphill battle in sustaining its momentum. Can they continue to provoke and challenge the status quo, or will their efforts be met with resistance from those who value diversity and inclusivity? Only time will tell.

I'm not buying the whole "conservative cultural influence" thing 🤔. This T-shirt craze sounds like a niche trend that's gonna fizzle out in no time. I mean, what's next? A "Trump '20" merch line for hipsters?

And let's talk about Sydney Sweeney and her film Christy 🎬. I'm not convinced she's some kinda symbol of traditional beauty standards. Maybe she just got lucky with a role that happened to be popular 😏. And as for the criticism about white supremacist eugenics, yeah, that's a total red flag 🔥.

I think this whole thing is just a case of right-wing folks trying to stir up controversy and attract attention 📰. Newsflash: it won't work. People will still choose to watch movies and listen to music based on artistic merit, not some ideological agenda 🎵.

The art world is all about diversity and inclusion, so I'm not worried about the conservative movement trying to "dominate" it 😂. They'll just get lost in the sea of creative voices and perspectives 🌊.

Ugh 🤕 this is so worrying... conservatism seems to be making a comeback and I'm just not sure if it's going to end well 😟. Like, we've seen what happens when people get too comfortable with their power and start using it to control others – it's never pretty 💔. And now that they're trying to influence the arts, I'm like totally freaked out 🎨. Can't they just leave us alone to enjoy our art and music in peace? 😩

I'm still holding onto my old CD player 🎵, remember when we used to have to wait for a whole week to get new music on cassette tape? 📼 now it's like everyone's an expert on everything just because they saw a T-shirt with some conservative slogan on it 🤷‍♂️. I mean, can't people just make up their own minds and watch movies that don't involve historical drama or whatever 😒. Back in the day, we had real stars, not just actresses who only speak out when people will "hear" them 🙄. The film industry's always been about artistic expression, not some right-wing ideology 💁‍♀️. And yeah, box office bombs happen to anyone, it's not like Sweeney's movie was a solo effort or something 🤷‍♂️. I'm all for people having their own opinions, but can't we just respect each other's differences and enjoy the art without all the drama? 🎨👍

omg i'm like totally confused about this whole thing 🤯 u guys know how much i love sweeney's in american horror story? anyway back to her film christy... i feel like some ppl r super harsh on her 4 speaking out on eugenics lol what even is that tho? i mean im all 4 diversity & inclusivity but sometimes ppl just need 2 express themselves 🤷‍♀️

i think the thing is, u can't control culture & society through just 1 movie or 1 ideology. it's like, art is supposed 2 be about exploring different perspectives & making ppl feel something 🎥 anyway i'm def curious 2 see what happens next w/ sweeney & the conservative movement 🤔

🤔 I'm all about this resurgence of conservatism being a thing on the big screen right now! 😎 Those "Reagan-Bush '84" tees are everywhere! 👕 It's like, people want to be part of something bigger than just their individual politics. They're drawn to that nostalgic vibe and the idea of rebelling against liberal orthodoxy.

But for real though, can they sustain it? 🤝 Hollywood's always been about pushing boundaries and exploring different perspectives. I'm not sure how well conservative values will translate to broad audiences. The art world is all about diversity and representation - it's hard to imagine a single ideology dominating the conversation.

And let's be real, Sydney Sweeney's film "Christy" got roasted online for its problematic themes 🤦‍♀️. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in terms of box office performance. Is it just a flash in the pan or is there something more going on here? 🎥 We'll have to keep an eye on that! 👀

🤔 idk about this whole "conservative cultural influence" thing... feels like people are trying to force a certain vibe onto everyone else instead of just chillin' and enjoying life. and omg sydney sweeney's film christy is literally a total snooze fest 📺💤 i mean, art should be subjective right? let people watch what they want without having to label it as "conservative" or "liberal". can't we all just get along and enjoy the same movies/music/books without feeling like we're being judged for our tastes? 😐

🤔 I'm kinda thinking that this whole conservative revival thing is a bit like the early 2000s when low-rise jeans were all the rage 🌸😎. It's nostalgic for some people, but let's be real, it was also super uncomfortable and impractical for everyone else 😂. Just like how we couldn't take those jeans seriously as a fashion statement, I don't think conservatives can sustain their momentum in the arts either. The art world is too diverse, too inclusive – it's all about pushing boundaries and challenging norms, not stuck in some bygone era 🎨👀. And honestly, Sweeney's film might be doing okay at the box office because people are finally getting over their old-school beauty standards 💁‍♀️👏...

I think conservatives are gonna lose big time 😂. I mean, come on, a T-shirt with Reagan and Bush's faces on it is not exactly the most subtle way to signal your affiliation. And let's be real, the whole "great unwokening" thing is just code for "we're tired of being called out for our hypocrisy". The art world is all about pushing boundaries and challenging people's perspectives, and if you can't handle that, then maybe you shouldn't be part of it.

And don't even get me started on Sydney Sweeney. I think she's got this whole "traditional beauty standards" thing down pat because she's actually a pretty mediocre actress 🤣. I mean, who gets excited about her latest film? Not many people, that's for sure.

The only way conservatives are gonna win is if they can make themselves sound more relatable and less like a bunch of out-of-touch elites 👊. But until then, I'm just gonna keep on watching my diversity-filled TV shows and listening to my feminist podcast 🎧. Bring it on! 💪
