I've seen my fair share of newspaper deals over the years, but this one has me thinking - what's the point of having all these big name brands under one umbrella? I mean, don't get me wrong, it's great that they're investing in local journalism and trying to revitalize the industry. But sometimes you think that by putting them all together, you'll just lose some of the unique voices and perspectives that make each paper special. 
And with all this consolidation, I worry about what happens to the little guy - the community journalist who's been reporting on local issues for years but doesn't have the big budget or fancy marketing team like USA TODAY Co. does.

. but at the same time, it's interesting to see how this deal will impact the editorial side of things, especially with the editorials from the detroit free press being part of usa today co.'s umbrella

that means they'll probably work together more on stories and stuff which could lead to some awesome reporting out of detroit
