The Rolling Stones give blessing to Fatboy Slim's Satisfaction sample after 25 years

A Quarter-Century of Waiting Pays Off: The Rolling Stones Give Blessing to Fatboy Slim's "Satisfaction" Sample

The wait is finally over for fans of both The Rolling Stones and Fatboy Slim. After a staggering 25 years, the iconic bootleg recording "Satisfaction Skank," which samples the latter's 1999 hit "The Rockafeller Skank" with the former's 1965 classic "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," has received its long-awaited official release.

The track's origins date back to the late 90s, when Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook) merged his own beat-heavy sound with Keith Richards' unmistakable guitar riff from "Satisfaction." The mashup quickly gained traction on Napster and other file-sharing platforms, with bootleggers pressing it onto vinyl for use in nightclubs. However, due to repeated attempts to clear the sample, the track was never officially sanctioned by the Stones.

It wasn't until recently that Mick Jagger gave his approval for the release, with Cook stating that he received a call from the legendary frontman, who expressed admiration for the mix. Despite initial resistance from the Stones' management, which flat-out refused to negotiate, it appears that a quarter-century of persistence has finally paid off.

In a surprise twist, the original stems for "Satisfaction Skank" were delivered to Cook in an armored van, allowing him to rebuild the track anew. The new version will be accompanied by a music video directed by Tom Furse, featuring enhanced archive photos of the Stones.

This move echoes a similar decision made by the band 2019, when they relinquished their rights regarding the Verve's hit "Bitter Sweet Symphony," which had been embroiled in copyright disputes for years. The Stone's willingness to approve the sample marks a significant gesture towards creative collaboration and respect for the original material.

As Fatboy Slim looks to continue pushing the boundaries of electronic music, it remains to be seen how this release will impact his fans. With a forthcoming string of outdoor concerts on Brighton beach in July 2026, Cook is already making waves as one of the most prolific artists in the industry.

🤔 So I'm glad The Rolling Stones finally gave their seal of approval for Fatboy Slim's "Satisfaction Skank" track, it's been a long time coming! I mean, 25 years is a pretty big wait, especially considering how popular those mashups were back in the day. It just goes to show that persistence can pay off and creative collaboration can lead to some amazing new music 🎶.

I'm also impressed that Mick Jagger was willing to give his approval after all these years, it shows that he's okay with Fatboy Slim using one of their iconic tracks. And I love that they're releasing the original stems for the track so Fatboy Slim could recreate it from scratch - talk about a cool way to breathe new life into an old song! 💡

It's also worth noting that this move by The Rolling Stones is part of a bigger trend in the music industry, where artists are starting to recognize the value of collaboration and respecting each other's work. It's not always easy to navigate copyright laws and permissions, but when it works out, it can lead to some incredible results 🎵

just imagine what could've been if they released that song all those years ago... it's crazy to think about how long we had to wait for this moment 🤯😅 and i'm so hyped for fatboy slim's fans, finally getting to hear this epic mix with a music video too! it's amazing that mick jagger gave his blessing and the stones are showing their support by collaborating with cook again 💕🎶

omg finally!!! 😍 i'm beyond stoked that the stones gave their seal of approval for fatboy slim's 'satisfaction skank' sample! it's been like, forever since this epic mashup was dropped, and to think that mick jagger himself gave his thumbs up is just mind-blowing 🤩. can you even imagine how satisfying it must've been for norman cook to finally get the green light after all those years of chasing this track? 😅 i'm also loving the fact that the stones are showing some serious respect for the original material - it's about time we saw more artists being willing to collaborate and give props where props are due 💯. now, let's get ready to party with fatboy slim at his outdoor concerts in july 2026 🎉🕺

I'm so stoked that The Rolling Stones finally gave their blessing for Fatboy Slim's "Satisfaction Skank" sample... I mean, why did they take so long tho? 🤷‍♂️ It's been 25 whole years! I guess you could say it was a wild goose chase for both sides. The fact that Mick Jagger personally called out to Norman Cook is pretty cool... but what if he didn't like it?! 😂 Would we have seen this release ever? Also, who thought sending the stems in an armored van was a good idea? 🤯 That's some serious commitment to music. I'm hyped for Fatboy Slim's upcoming outdoor concerts and all... will they be able to live up to the hype of this epic sample? 🎉

😐 I'm not entirely convinced about the whole story... 25 years ago, "Satisfaction Skank" was just another bootleg track floating around, right? How do we know it wasn't just a PR stunt to promote Fatboy Slim's music or some obscure Stones fan project that got lost in the shuffle? Where are these "archive photos of the Stones"? Who actually sees this armoured van delivering stems to Cook? The whole thing sounds like something out of a conspiracy theory 🤑. Can we see some actual proof, like a video call between Jagger and Cook or something? 📹 I need sources, fam 💁‍♂️

🤔 I don't think Fatboy Slim should've waited so long to get official permission from the Stones for that sample... I mean, come on, it's been 25 years! Can you imagine how many other mashups and remixes were made without his clearance? And now that it's finally out, I'm not sure if it'll live up to expectations. I've heard some say it sounds like a rehash of the original, which isn't exactly what you want when you're trying to create something new... still, I guess it's about time we got a legit version of "Satisfaction Skank" 😊
