The man taking over the Large Hadron Collider – only to switch it off

I mean, what's going on with Mark Thomson and Cern? Turning off the LHC for good just because it's been running well? I get that they need some engineering work done, but a 5-year shutdown? That's like taking our favorite sports team out of the game for half a decade. 🤔

And don't even get me started on the Future Circular Collider (FCC) project. Three times bigger than the LHC and costing 15 billion Swiss francs? It's gotta be a massive undertaking, but I'm not sure if it's worth the risk. What's the point of building something new just to potentially uncover more mysteries about dark matter and dark energy? 🤷‍♂️

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Mark Thomson seems optimistic about all this, but for me, there's always been a sense of excitement around pushing boundaries and exploring the unknown. When we start to lose hope, that's when things get really interesting. 😎

😊 this guy mark thomson is like a scientist superhero - saving cern and maybe even changing the game with that lhc upgrade! 15 billion francs for the fcc tho 🤯 thats a lot of dough 💸 but hey, if its gonna unlock new discoveries, its worth it 🔓

ill be keeping an eye on these developments, excited to see what else thomson and team come up with - maybe we'll finally figure out that dark matter 🕵️‍♂️ or something 🤔

🤔 This news has me both intrigued and perplexed... I mean, who expects the LHC's director general to shut it down for engineering work, only to restart it five years later? 🕰️ It's a bold move, to say the least. As an enthusiast of cutting-edge science, I'm excited about what lies ahead, but also a bit concerned that we might be putting the cart before the horse.

The high-luminosity LHC upgrade is certainly a promising development, and I'm eager to see how it will shed new light on the fundamental nature of the universe 🌟. However, I do wonder if the search for answers about dark matter and dark energy is being pushed back by the uncertainty surrounding Higgs boson masses and interactions 🔮.

On a more pragmatic note, I think we need to have a serious discussion about the feasibility and cost implications of the Future Circular Collider (FCC). £14 billion is a staggering amount, and it's crucial that we weigh the benefits against the potential risks 📊. Nonetheless, with Mark Thomson at the helm, I'm confident that Cern will continue to push the boundaries of human knowledge and understanding 💡.

omg just read that Mark Thomson is gonna be the new dir gen of Cern lol what's with the LHC shutdown tho? 🤯 guess they wanna do some major engineering work and can't wait 5 yrs for it to finish 🕰️ anyway, i'm hyped for the high-luminosity LHC upgrade, sounds like they're gonna get way more data and maybe even uncover some new physics 🔍 but what's up with the Higgs boson masses? still got a ton of questions 💭 and oh yeah, the FCC is a whole other can of worms... 15 billion francs or £14 billion? 🤑

just wondering why they gotta shut down the lhc for a five year term 🤔, cant they just do engineering work while it's still on? and 15 billion francs is crazy 💸 need to know more about how this new fcc thingy will help us get closer to unlocking dark matter & stuff 🔮
