The Guardian view on Trump and China: stepping back from the brink, but not solving problems | Editorial

I don’t usually comment but I think this trade deal is a bit like buying temporary peace in a war zone 😒. Both sides made some concessions but it's still unclear if these will be enough to fix the underlying issues between them. China's not backing down and neither is the US so what's the real end game here? The EU needs to step up its game too, can't let China just walk all over everyone 🤦‍♂️. It's like a game of musical chairs but with countries instead of chairs... meanwhile our businesses are just trying to survive in a world where tariffs come and go without warning 💸

I'm feeling kinda meh about this whole US-China deal 🤔📉 The fact that Trump blinked first and China got all these concessions is weird. Don't get me wrong, it's nice that they agreed on some stuff like soybeans and rare earths, but let's be real, it's just a temporary fix 🤯. I mean, have you seen the state of US-China relations? It's like a never-ending game of hot potato 💸. And what about Nvidia's Blackwell chip? That's like playing with fire 🔥! China's gonna use that leverage to further solidify its grip on global trade. We need more than just a reprieve from the brink 🌆. Businesses are already stressed out about tariffs and strategy, this deal is just adding fuel to the fire 🔪. The EU needs to step up and show some backbone 💪, can't let China walk all over us 👊

🤔 It's all too obvious that this is just a temporary reprieve from the tension between US and China 🕰️, and we shouldnt expect things to go back to normal anytime soon 😒. The real deal would be when they find common ground and address the underlying issues 🤝. Trump's aggressive approach might have worked in some cases but its not gonna cut it every time 💪. Meanwhile, China is just playing long game here 🕵️‍♂️, mapping their way to economic vulnerabilities and using that leverage to get what they want 💸. The EU has got a big task ahead of them if they wanna stand up to Chinese coercion 👊. The world needs some stability in these trade dynamics 😬.

come on trump thinks he scored 12 out of 10 with xi after all that drama and tension?! 🤣 i mean i know chinese diplomacy is super complex but like come on man your approach is still super cringeworthy especially when it comes to those "gold crowns" lol what a joke. and china wasn't having it either so props to them for standing firm even if it means the US has to swallow some hard pill.

anyway this truce might be temporary but i don't think anyone should get too excited about it. it's all just a delaying tactic until the real issues come back up again which they will and trust me no one is more worried than the eu right now trying to navigate their trade relationships with china without losing out completely.

and let's not forget about the global ai industry this is a whole new level of geopolitics we are living in and it's all super concerning. china's got these rare earths and nvidia's chips and who knows what other tech advancements they're gonna use to further their own interests... meanwhile trump is just over here making promises he can't keep.

🤔 I think it's good that Trump and Xi were able to agree on some stuff, but at the same time, I'm a bit worried that we're just patching up things without really fixing the underlying issues 🙅‍♂️. China's just trying to level the playing field, you know? They can't be expected to make concessions all the time when they feel like they're being unfairly targeted by the US 🤷‍♂️. And what about the tech controls? Is that really a good idea for the global AI industry? 🤔 I think we need to find a better balance between security and competition 💡.
