The GAA Social sits down with Derry's All-Ireland winner Danny Quinn

In a poignant conversation, the GAA Social podcast has sat down with Derry's All-Ireland winner Danny Quinn to discuss his life after losing his wife Catherine to pulmonary hypertension in 2011. The couple, who married just weeks before their daughter Dara was born, faced an unimaginable loss when it was discovered that only a double lung transplant could treat her terminal illness.

Quinn, now Principal of Anahorish Primary School, still carries the can-do attitude his wife Catherine lived by, saying she taught him "this has not been easy" but also "life is to be enjoyed". He attributes their children's well-being and happiness to her selflessness in telling them she had a terminal illness. The father of three said he was very lucky to meet Catherine, adding that "a mother going home to tell three children she is going to die is not easy."

Following his wife's passing, Quinn found solace through work, friends, family, the GAA club, and community. It wasn't an easy journey by any means; however, life has indeed taught him valuable lessons about resilience. Quinns emphasized that dealing with such a difficult situation does shape one into who they are but also stressed on getting back out there and enjoying life.

It was a heart-wrenching yet thought-provoking conversation for those familiar with Quinn's remarkable life story, highlighting the importance of cherishing every moment despite having faced unimaginable challenges.

😊 You know what's wild? I was just reading about these amazing tree planting initiatives that are restoring old forests in places like Oregon 🌳. Like, can you imagine having to replant a whole forest after it's been gone for years? Mind-blowing stuff! And the best part is, it's not just about the trees – it's about how it brings back local wildlife and supports the community economy too πŸ’š. I wonder if Derry has any similar projects going on πŸ€”

πŸ˜” This conversation is so emotional I'm getting chills just thinking about it 🀯 Danny Quinn sharing his story and how he coped after losing his wife to a terminal illness? It must've been super tough for him but I love that he's now passing on the lessons she taught him to his kids πŸ™ He's such an inspiration showing us that even in the darkest times, there's always hope πŸ’«

just can imagine how hard it must be to live with that kind of grief and guilt πŸ€•... but i think its amazing how danny quinn has bounced back like that... not an easy feat by any means, but the fact that he's still spreading love and positivity through his work and community is truly inspiring ❀️... you know, life can be so cruel sometimes, but sometimes it's the people who've been through the toughest stuff who show us what real strength looks like πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” I'm glad Danny Quinn is doing okay after losing his wife to pulmonary hypertension. Sounds like it really took a toll on him, especially talking about his wife teaching their kids she was terminal... πŸ˜• But what really got me thinking is that he's now Principal of Anahorish Primary School? Wasn't there some controversy around the appointment? πŸ€” I couldn't find any info on it online, so did anyone else catch wind of this? πŸ’‘

I'm still in shock after listening to that podcast interview 😱 with Danny Quinn. He's one of my favorite GAA players and now he's this amazing principal too?! I can imagine how tough it must've been for him to lose his wife Catherine, especially when she was so young with a little girl to take care of πŸ€°β€β™€οΈ. But what I love is that he credits her selflessness in telling their kids about her illness as the reason they're all doing well today πŸ’•. It's like, even though it's super sad, his wife's story has given them strength and hope. And now Quinn is spreading that same positivity at school πŸ“šπŸ’ͺ! I'm definitely gonna try to be more like him - not letting life get me down 😊

I think it's messed up that people are always going on about how brave Danny Quinn is for keeping on and enjoying life after losing his wife πŸ˜’. I mean, what even is that? His wife passed away in 2011 and he's still running around like a lunatic, teaching kids at some primary school 🀣. Has he forgotten about the pain of losing her entirely? The conversation just makes him sound like a try-hard motivational speaker who's more interested in being inspirational than actually dealing with his grief. And what's with all the fuss about "finding solace" through work and friends? That's just code for "I'm still hurting, but I'll put on a happy face so everyone thinks I'm okay". Give him some space, man πŸ‘Š

I feel bad for Danny Quinn, I mean, can you even imagine losing your wife to a terminal illness just before becoming a dad? πŸ€• It's heartbreaking that he has to go through all that as a husband and a new father... but at the same time, it's amazing how he's found his way in life and is still so positive about it. I think it's really inspiring that he attributes their kids' happiness to his wife's selflessness, because it's true, sometimes having tough conversations with your children can be one of the hardest things a parent has to do... but it sounds like Catherine did all right by her kids, RIP πŸ’•

OMG 🀯 just listened to this convo between Danny Quinn & GAA Social podcast and I'm totally emotional 😭 it's so sad but also super inspiring πŸ’– how he's still going strong after losing his wife Catherine to pulmonary hypertension πŸ’” what a selfless mum she was, teaching her kids that life is worth enjoying even when faced with terminal illness 🌞 and now he's living proof that life goes on & we can all draw from his resilience πŸ™ πŸ‘

Just heard this episode of the GAA Social podcast about Danny Quinn... man, that's so sad, but also super inspiring πŸ€—. I mean, can you even imagine losing your partner and daughter to a terminal illness like that? 😱 It's crazy how resilient he's become though, still running his school and being such a positive influence on people's lives. What struck me most was how Catherine helped him focus on the positives and make the best of every situation... her legacy lives on through their kids! πŸ’• His attitude towards life is really refreshing, it's clear that she taught him to enjoy the ride and not take anything for granted 🌟.

man this story is so sad πŸ€• but at the same time it's really inspiring to see how danny quinn has coped with his loss... he's still got that positive attitude his wife had and it's beautiful πŸ’• i think it's great how he talks about how hard life can be but also how life can teach you so much about resilience and getting back out there... anyway, just wanted to say that this convo is a great reminder for all of us to appreciate the people in our lives and make the most of every moment πŸ™

πŸ€• I'm so sorry to hear about Danny Quinn's wife Catherine... her memory is still with him and that's beautiful πŸ™. I love how he says she taught him to enjoy life, it's like she's still with him in a way πŸ’•. Losing someone you love is the hardest thing ever, but it sounds like he found some comfort in his work, friends, family... and even playing GAA πŸˆπŸ‘. His attitude is so inspiring, "life is to be enjoyed" - let's all try to do that more often 😊. The way he talks about Catherine being selfless with their kids is just heart-warming ❀️.

πŸ€— that guy quinn is so strong πŸ’ͺ he lost his wife but still keeps on going 🌈 and now he's helping kids learn πŸ“š which is amazing ❀️ his wife taught him to be resilient 😊 and now he's spreading love to others 🀝 life can be tough ☹️ but we gotta find ways to enjoy it πŸŽ‰ even when it's hard πŸ’•

πŸ€” Danny Quinn's story is so inspiring, but it's also super tough to watch. I mean, losing your wife and then finding solace in work and stuff... it's like he's been through a war. You can't even imagine what goes on in his head when he was told his wife had only a year left. πŸ€• The fact that he's now teaching kids at school is just amazing, though! He's doing an incredible job of carrying on his wife's legacy and making her proud. But at the same time, it's like... how do you balance the sadness with the joy? It's not easy, you know? πŸ’”

I'm so sorry to hear about Danny Quinn's wife Catherine πŸ€•. Losing someone you love that way is just heartbreaking. It's amazing how he's found solace in work and being around friends and family, but I can imagine it's not easy to put on a brave face all the time πŸ˜”. What I find really touching is how his kids have grown up with such a strong sense of selflessness and resilience from their mum - that's just beautiful ❀️. It's also really inspiring to see him talking about getting back out there and enjoying life, despite everything he's been through 🌞. Life has a way of teaching us valuable lessons when we need them most...

😊 I'm so sorry to hear about Danny Quinn's wife Catherine πŸ˜”. Losing someone like that is just devastating. It's amazing how he's still got that positive can-do attitude and is inspiring others with his story πŸ’ͺ. I think it's super beautiful how he credits his kids for helping him stay strong during a really tough time πŸ‘§πŸΌ. And I love how he emphasizes enjoying life after going through all that hardship 🌞. It just goes to show that we've got so much more in us than we think, and sometimes it takes a lot to realize it πŸ’«.

Can u imagine havin' to sit ur kids down & tell 'em their mum's only got one chance at bein alive πŸ˜”? That must've been so tough on Danny & his family... I'm sure it wasn't easy, but it sounds like Catherine was this amazing person who made the most of every situation. It's beautiful how she taught her kids about selflessness & resilience, even in the face of tragedy πŸ’•. Anyways, I think what resonates with me most is when Danny said he found solace in work, friends, family... it just goes to show that life doesn't have to be defined by one loss 🌈. We can keep movin' forward & find happiness in all the little things πŸŽ‰.

πŸ˜” I just can't believe how tough it must've been for Danny Quinn to lose his wife like that πŸ€•... I mean, she was only 30 and had three little kids to raise πŸ’”... It's amazing he's still got such a positive attitude about life though πŸ™Œ He's right, we should all learn from Catherine's selflessness - it's not easy to be so open with your kids about something that could ruin their whole childhood 😩... I'm just glad Danny found ways to cope, like getting back into work and hanging out with friends & family πŸ‘«πŸ€... It's a great reminder to appreciate every moment we've got, no matter what life throws at us πŸ™
