The Ashes: Mark Wood ruled of England squad, Matthew Fisher called up

England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of the Ashes tour due to a knee injury. The 35-year-old returned to action in the first Test in Perth after an eight-month absence following knee surgery, but was forced to miss the second Test due to swelling in the same left knee.

Wood had initially been hopeful that he could play a part in the remaining three Tests, but has now been ruled out of the squad for the third Test at Adelaide, beginning on 17 December. His injury is a significant blow to England's chances of turning around their series against Australia, who are currently leading 2-0.

In his place, Surrey fast bowler Matthew Fisher has been called up to the England squad. The 28-year-old won his only Test cap on a tour of the West Indies in 2022 and has been part of the England Lions squad on their tour of Australia.

Fisher's inclusion is seen as a positive move for England, who are looking to make a comeback in the series. He gets the nod ahead of Josh Hull and Sonny Baker, who were both ruled out of the Lions squad with injuries.

Australia coach Andrew McDonald has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will make his comeback when the hosts reveal their squad for the third Test on Wednesday. The Australian team will also make at least two changes to their team, with seamers Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett potentially left out.

The series is currently being played in a day-night format, and England are under pressure to win the next Test to avoid an embarrassing defeat.

Ugh, this just got even worse for England πŸ€•. They needed someone like Mark Wood to turn around that series, but now they're stuck with no fast bowler after his injury 😩. I mean, what's the point of having a team if you can't get your top players back? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Matthew Fisher might be a decent replacement, but let's see how he performs under pressure ⚑️. And to make matters worse, Australia is going all guns blazing with Pat Cummins making his comeback πŸ”₯. This series just got a whole lot more intense πŸ”΄. Can England even get back into this? πŸ€”

Ugh, don't even get me started on this Ashes debacle πŸ™„! I mean, what's up with Wood getting ruled out? Is it just because he didn't want to play anymore at 35 or something? Like, fair enough, knee injuries are a real thing... but can't they just stick him in a special "injured England player" squad just for the sake of morale?

And now Fisher gets the call-up? Cool, I guess. But let's be real, he's gonna get smashed by Cummins and the Aussies will still win... easily 😏. Mark my words, England are done for. The series is over before it even starts.

πŸš¨πŸ’” This injury to Mark Wood is a total bummer. I was really hoping he'd be able to make it back sooner πŸ€•. Now they're gonna have to rely on some rookie like Matthew Fisher who's never played in the Ashes before... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ This is gonna hurt England's chances of coming back from 2-0 down 😬. And to make matters worse, Australia is already making changes to their squad... it's just one more thing that's going wrong for England πŸ˜©πŸ‘Ž

omg 🀯 this news is defo not what england needed right now... Mark Wood was having that good run back after his surgery and now he's out with another knee injury... i'm getting really worried about their chances against australia 😬 17 dec is gonna be a huge day for england fans, gotta root for them to make a comeback πŸ’ͺ meanwhile, australia is looking solid with pat cummins coming back in the mix πŸ™Œ can't wait to see how this series unfolds πŸ“Ί

Ugh, this is so disappointing for Mark Wood πŸ€•... 8 months of rehab and now he's out again? I'm really rooting for him to get back on track ASAP πŸ™. Can't imagine how frustrated he must be feeling right now πŸ˜”. England's gonna need some serious luck to turn this series around, but at least they've got Matthew Fisher coming in to give them a boost ⚑️! Fingers crossed he can make an impact and help the team come back strong πŸ’ͺ

I'm so bummed about Mark Wood's injury πŸ€•... he was looking like a key player for England in this Ashes series. Now they gotta rely on Matthew Fisher to step up his game and help 'em turn it around. He's got some big shoes to fill, but I think he can do it 😊. It's not ideal, but you can't control injuries, right? At least Australia is facing some uncertainty with their lineup changes πŸ”„. Can't wait for the next Test, gotta see how this all plays out πŸ’₯

πŸ€” So this injury news for Mark Wood got me thinking... its like how our politicians keep saying they're gonna 'come back stronger' after a tough loss... but do we really see any changes in their strategy or tactics? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ In the case of England's Ashes squad, it's all about making last-minute adjustments to try and turn the series around... kinda like how our leaders are always tweaking policies to appease the public. πŸ“Š But what about a more systemic approach? Are they really addressing the root causes of their struggles in Australia, or just patching things up with some quick fixes? πŸ’‘ The fact that they're calling up Matthew Fisher, who's only won one Test cap... is it just about giving someone a lifeline to save face, or is there real potential for growth and improvement? 🀝

Ugh, this is like, so frustrating 🀯! Mark Wood was finally back from his injury and now he's out for good? I mean, 8 months off and then you're gonna sit him out again? It's like they're not even giving him a chance to prove himself. Matthew Fisher comes in and suddenly it's all positive vibes? I don't know man, I just think this is a bad move by England. They need Wood's experience on that pitch, especially with Australia being 2-0 up. And what about the mental toll on Wood? He was so hyped to be back after such a long layoff and now it's like his hopes are dashed again πŸ€•.

Ugh 🀯, this is getting serious for England's cricket team. Mark Wood was just starting to get back into form after that long injury layoff, but now he's out for good? πŸ˜” That's just not what you want when you're trying to turn around a 2-0 deficit in a series. And they're replacing him with Matthew Fisher πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ, who's got some potential, but also hasn't exactly set the world on fire yet. It feels like England is still playing catch-up here. The pressure is definitely on now for them to win the next Test and avoid getting destroyed 😬. And Australia's team changes are gonna be interesting... can they keep their momentum going? πŸ€”

I'm not buying it πŸ™„. I mean, Mark Wood just comes back from knee surgery after 8 months and then he's already ruled out of the Ashes? That's quite a short recovery time if you ask me πŸ˜‚. And now they're bringing in Matthew Fisher? Isn't he like, what, 10 years younger than Wood? πŸ€” I'm not saying Fisher can't do his job, but it just feels like England is trying to panic and make changes without thinking things through πŸ’‘.

Ugh, this injury thing just keeps happening πŸ€•. First, it's Wood and now it looks like Australia's gonna be dealing with some injuries too πŸ™„. I mean, I get it, sports is a tough game, but come on! You'd think they'd have better medical teams by now. And what's up with Fisher being called up instead of someone else? Not that I'm saying he can't do the job, but...I don't know, just seems like an awkward move to me πŸ€”. And now England's gonna be under pressure to win the next Test and all that drama 😬. Can we just have a series where everyone stays healthy for once? πŸ™

OMG 😱 whatttt 😩 can't believe Wood got injured again πŸ€• he was lookin so good after comin back from surgery πŸ˜” now they gotta rely on Fisher πŸ’ͺ I hope he can step up and help them turn this series around πŸ”„ fingers crossed πŸ‘

Ugh, this is not what I wanted to hear about Ashes... πŸ€• I was really hoping Mark Wood would be able to get back on track and make a difference for England. Now they're going up against Australia with basically one less bowler. I feel bad for Matthew Fisher, he's gonna have huge pressure on him, but at least it's good that they're giving him a chance! 🀞 Fingers crossed he can step up and bring some much-needed excitement to the team. 🎾

ugh dont wanna hear england is losin again πŸ€• they really need that wood back on the pitch ASAP! fisher seems like a decent backup tho maybe will give them some hope for a comeback πŸ’ͺ but still gotta be worried about australia's squad changes πŸ‘€ might make it even harder for em to turn around this series 😬

I dont think england should be pressurized that much πŸ€”... they can still turn the series around without Mark Wood. I mean, theyve got some decent bowlers in Matthew Fisher now 😊... and its not like aubrey durant wasnt good enough to fill in for wood. lets just hope england doesnt choke under pressure πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

Ugh man, can't believe Wood went down again πŸ€•... eight months on the sidelines already and now he's gonna miss the rest of the Ashes 😩. Thought he was all fixed after that surgery but I guess not. Matthew Fisher is a nice call up though, been waiting for an England spot and he's got some decent skills πŸ’ͺ. Not sure if it'll make a difference in the series, Australia is looking strong atm πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. Need to see how this day-night format affects them, might just give England a chance to catch up 🌞. Fingers crossed! 😁

You know what's weird about cricket? I was just watching this funny vid of a cat playing with a ball of yarn and it totally reminded me of how fast bowlers move on the field 🐱😹. Like, one minute you're there, the next minute you're gone! It's like they have their own secret language or something.

Anyway, back to Mark Wood... I feel bad for him, but at least he got to come out of retirement and play in Perth 🌳. I'm a bit curious about Matthew Fisher now, though - has anyone seen his game face? πŸ€” And what's up with the day-night format? My friend's dad played cricket in school and he always said it was so much harder without the sun in your eyes πŸ˜‚.

I hope England can make a comeback in the series! It'd be awesome to see them pull off a miracle win πŸ’ͺ. But, honestly, I'm more excited for the cat video montage that's going to come out after the match πŸŽ₯😹

Ugh man... Mark Wood's injury is like, so frustrating! He was having that amazing comeback after 8 months out and then this happens πŸ€•. Now they gotta rely on some new guy Matthew Fisher who I guess has potential but not as seasoned as Wood. England's chances just got a bit more uncertain πŸ’”. They need to win the next Test to salvage the series, it's like, so much pressure 😬. On the flip side, Pat Cummins is back which is good news for Australia, gotta respect that πŸ™Œ. Hope Fisher can step up and do some damage πŸ‘Š
