Shopify is down: Updates on the Cyber Monday outage disrupting your online shopping

Shopify's Cyber Monday Outage Leaves Thousands of Merchants in the Dark

As shoppers eagerly dived into the holiday shopping frenzy on Cyber Monday, many were left in the dark due to issues with Shopify, the ecommerce platform that powers a significant portion of online transactions in the US. According to Shopify's support page, some merchants were struggling to log into their platforms, experiencing outages with checkout and admin systems.

Shopify's point-of-sale (POS), API, and mobile as well as support systems also suffered from "degraded performance." The company acknowledged the issue, stating that they were investigating and applying mitigations for the problems affecting access to Admins and POS systems. However, it was unclear when these issues would be resolved.

In an update posted at 12:39PM ET, Shopify revealed that they had found and fixed an issue with login authentication flow, indicating signs of recovery for admin and POS login issues. The company assured that merchants may still experience problems with POS checkouts due to the ongoing struggles with accessing POS systems.

The outage, which began shortly after morning rush hour, seemed to have a minimal impact on the majority of shoppers who managed to navigate through it without major hiccups. Despite its widespread use by prominent brands such as Netflix, Mattel, Supreme, Glossier, and Converse, Shopify's own customer support team was criticized for being slow to respond to the issue.

As the day wore on, Shopify continued to update its status page with progress updates, reassuring users that they were working tirelessly to resolve the problems. With many stores now back online, it appears that the impact of the outage may have been minimal, but for those affected, it was a frustrating start to what should be an otherwise enjoyable shopping experience.

In related news, Shopify's social media team seemed tone deaf, tweeting about their readiness to handle the anticipated influx of holiday shoppers just days before the issue arose. A post from November 27 stated that their team was prepared for the "Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping rush," with an average wait time of 56 seconds at the time.

omg can u believe the joke? they have a "customer support" system that's slower than grandma's wifi πŸ“ŠπŸ’¨ and then they tweet about being ready for the holiday rush like, hello, you're experiencing issues already! πŸ˜‚ what's next? them saying they'll fix it by new year's eve πŸ’₯πŸ˜’ anyway, glad most ppl managed to shop without too much drama, but poor merchants having a crappy day πŸ€―πŸ’”

Ugh this is so annoying πŸ™„. I mean I know holidays are crazy busy and stuff, but Shopify should've been more prepared for this kind of thing. They're one of the biggest ecommerce platforms out there, how hard would it be to anticipate a massive outage on Cyber Monday? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ And meanwhile their own customer support is slow to respond... that's just not cool πŸ˜’. I'm glad most stores were able to get back online, but for those who weren't, it was probably super frustrating. Shopify should really step up their game when it comes to reliability and communication πŸ’».

Ugh what a nightmare πŸ˜©πŸ›οΈ this Cyber Monday outage is so frustrating for all those merchants struggling to get their online shops up and running! πŸ’ΌπŸ’» it's like, can't Shopify just have a backup plan or something? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ i mean, they're one of the biggest ecommerce platforms out there, you'd think they could handle a little stress during peak shopping hours πŸ€‘πŸ‘€ and omg their customer support team is SLOW πŸ’¨πŸ˜© like, how hard is it to respond to a simple outage? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ anyway, glad most stores are back online now πŸ™ let's just hope these issues get resolved ASAP so everyone can shop in peace πŸ›οΈπŸ’–

I'm literally fuming about this 😑. Can't believe Shopify's POS system was down on Cyber Monday, one of the busiest days of the year! It's like they thought they were above getting hacked or had some kinda magic backup plan 🀣. And don't even get me started on their customer support team, slow to respond and totally unhelpful πŸ˜’.

I mean, I get it, tech issues happen but this is just inexcusable. Merchants rely on Shopify to run their businesses, and when it's down, they're stuck in the dark πŸ’‘. It's not like Shopify is a tiny startup; they're one of the biggest ecommerce platforms out there. You'd think they'd have more backup plans in place πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.

And what really gets me is that they tweeted about being prepared for the shopping rush just days before it happened πŸ“…. Like, did you guys not test your systems or anything? It's just common sense, Shopify! πŸ˜’

omg this is so frustrating 😑! like cant a company even have one day without messing up? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ i mean i get that its cyber monday and shops are gonna be slammed, but come on shopify you shouldve been prepared πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. i had to spend an hour trying to get into my own store bc of some login issue πŸ’». and what really gets me is that they were tweeting about being ready for the rush just days before it happened πŸ˜‚. like didnt see that one coming at all. anyway hope the affected merchants are able to recover from this 🀞. we need shopify to step up their game ASAP πŸ‘

Ugh, this is like something out of a movie πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ! Shopify's Cyber Monday outage? Are you kidding me?! Thousands of merchants left in the dark because they couldn't log into their platforms? That's just crazy 😱. And what really gets my goat is when companies are so unprepared for major events and then have the nerve to tweet about how ready they are, like it's no big deal πŸ™„. I mean, who do they think they're kidding?! The fact that Shopify's customer support team was slow to respond to the issue just shows how clueless they were πŸ€”. Anyway, I'm glad most stores are back online now, but this whole ordeal has left a sour taste in my mouth πŸ˜’.

I'm so confused... like, how can a company as big as Shopify mess up something so critical on one of the busiest days of the year? πŸ€” I get it, outages happen, but thousands of merchants left in the dark? That's just not right. And to make matters worse, their own support team was super slow to respond... what were they even doing while the problems were happening? πŸ•°οΈ

And can we talk about how tone deaf that social media tweet was? Like, 'we're ready for the rush'? πŸ˜‚ Did they really think people would forget it's Cyber Monday and not expect some technical issues? I mean, I get it, companies gotta be prepared, but come on. It's just a bad look. πŸ’”

ugh i had the worst cyber monday experience ever my online store went down like 3 times and i couldn't even get in to restock on stock that sold out like literally seconds after i posted it lol anyway i was super frustrated but i guess its just part of the holiday season πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ’Έ i mean i feel bad for all those small shop owners who have no choice but to rely on shopify so hopefully they get their act together soon πŸ˜©πŸ’»

man, you gotta feel bad for those Shopify merchants πŸ€•, right? i mean, it's cyber monday, the biggest online shopping day, and their platform is down? that's like, the ultimate holiday buzzkill 😞. but, on the bright side, it's a great opportunity for them to review their infrastructure and make some much-needed improvements πŸ’». and hey, if they're already working on it now, maybe this outage will lead to even faster support times in the future 🀞. and can you imagine how cringeworthy it must be for their social media team? tweeting about being ready for the rush just days before the issue happens... yeah, that's definitely tone deaf πŸ˜‚.

Ugh, can u believe it?! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Shopify's Cyber Monday meltdown is a total disaster! Thousands of merchants are left in the dark, struggling to log in and get their online shops up and running. And what's with the super slow response from their customer support team? It's like they're just sitting on their hands waiting for someone to ask for help πŸ™„. And to make matters worse, they tweeted about being all ready for the holiday rush just days before the outage happened! Like, did they not even check their own systems or something? πŸ˜‚ The only good news is that it seems like most shoppers were able to navigate through the issues without major problems, but still...it's Cyber Monday, and you want everything to be smooth sailing πŸ›₯️.

πŸ€” So I'm wondering, how many people do you think were affected by Shopify's Cyber Monday outage? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Like, thousands as mentioned in the article, but still... was it a major disaster or just a minor inconvenience for most people? πŸ‘€ Also, what about customer support? I mean, they're basically running their own platform and can't even handle a simple outage without being super slow to respond. πŸ™„ How do you think Shopify can improve in the future? πŸ’»
