Winter Wonderland on the UK's Rural Escapes

If you're thinking of escaping to a peaceful rural haven this winter, there are countless options in the UK that offer the perfect blend of relaxation and outdoor adventure. Long winter hikes, cozy cottages with roaring fires, and lazy lunches at local pubs – the days may be shorter, but the holiday fun doesn't have to be.

The Guardian is on the lookout for your favorite places to visit in the coming months. Whether it's a secluded cabin in the Lake District, a seaside retreat that's still bustling despite the off-season, or an adventurous hiking trail in Wales, we want to hear about them.

To stand a chance of winning a £200 voucher to stay at a Coolstays property, simply submit your tip – no longer than 100 words. If you've got a relevant photo to accompany your entry, that's even better! However, be aware that the competition is UK resident-only, so make sure you're eligible before submitting.

The competition closes on November 12th at 10am GMT, so don't delay. Check out our past winners and tips for inspiration, and head over to the terms and conditions page for all the details.

I mean, who needs human interaction when you can just stay in a cozy cottage with a fireplace and binge-watch Netflix? Sounds like my idea of a perfect winter break lol. But seriously, if I'm gonna be stuck inside, I need some decent Wi-Fi and a pint at the local pub that's open till 10 pm - UK rural escapes are calling! 😂

Omg I'm so down for that 🤩❤️! I've always wanted to visit the Lake District, it's like something out of a fairy tale. Can't wait to see some pics from past winners to get me in the mood 😊. The idea of cozying up by a roaring fire with a good book and cuppa sounds absolute bliss ☕️. Don't forget to include some winter hiking trails too, that sounds like a total adrenaline rush 🏞️!

I'm loving this idea of escaping to the UK's rural escapes during winter 🏔️❄️! The thought of cozying up in a cabin by a roaring fire and going on long winter hikes sounds like absolute bliss 😌. I've got a soft spot for the Lake District - there's something so peaceful about it, you know? 😊 Plus, Wales has some amazing hiking trails that are perfect for winter adventures 🏃‍♀️. My fave winter getaway would be to stay at a cozy cabin in the Yorkshire Dales with a hot tub under the stars - sounds like the ultimate relaxation holiday to me! 🌃💆‍♀️ #RuralWinterEscapes #UKGetaways #CozyCabinVibes

I'm not sure about this whole Winter Wonderland thing 🤔. People are always chasing after some fleeting sense of escapism, and I think it's just a fancy way to justify paying more for overpriced accommodation and mediocre activities. And £200 for a voucher? That's like, a decent weekend away at a mid-range B&B, you know?

OMG, I'm DYING over Coolstays!!! 🤩 They have the most adorable little cottages in the Lake District that are just PERFECT for a winter wonderland getaway. I've been looking forward to their new collection of properties since it was announced and now they're offering a £200 voucher to stay at any one of them? YAAAS, please! 🙌 My fave one is this tiny cabin in the woods with a fireplace that's just begging for hot chocolate by the fire. Can't wait to submit my tip and win this amazing prize 💕

I think it's awesome that The Guardian is encouraging people to explore the UK's rural areas during the winter season 🏔️. I mean, who doesn't love curling up by a cozy fireplace in a secluded cabin or going on long hikes under the stars? 🌃 It's a great way to unwind and connect with nature, especially when everyone's stuck indoors cozied up at home 😴. Plus, it's a fantastic excuse to try out some new outdoor adventures like ice skating or snowshoeing ❄️! Whatever your rural winter escape looks like, I'm sure it'll be totally worth it 😊.

You know how some people just wanna get away from it all during the winter? Like, I'm not one to complain (much) about the snow or anything... but honestly, there's something so peaceful about those quiet UK countryside spots. Reminds me of when I was a kid and we'd go skiing in the Alps with my family every year 🏂. Now, as an adult, I think it's great that The Guardian is doing this comp to share some hidden gems. Should be easy peasy to come up with a good spot – there are loads of amazing rural escapes around the UK! 😊

I'm telling ya, nothing beats a snowy day in the countryside 🏔️☕️. I remember going on hikes with my mates back in the early 2000s and just enjoying the peace and quiet of being surrounded by nature. Nowadays it's all about Instagrammable spots, but I still think there's something special about finding a secluded cabin or B&B that's off the grid 🚪. The UK's got some amazing rural escapes, from the Lake District to Wales, and with winter coming up, they're gonna be even more magical ❄️. I'm definitely entering this competition for my favorite spot in the Yorkshire Dales – fingers crossed! 😊

I'm not sure if I'd call it a "winter wonderland" though... isn't that just a romanticized idea of escaping the cold? Like, what's really going on when we retreat to these idyllic rural escapes? Are we trying to escape our own minds or something? 🤔 The thought of cozy cottages and roaring fires is soothing, but I'm not convinced it's not just a temporary distraction from the emptiness within. And £200 isn't exactly a lot to pay for a momentary reprieve from reality... still, if you've got a favorite spot, why not share it with others? It might be a nice way to connect with something more meaningful than just the physical surroundings 🌳

I'm totally feeling the need to ditch city life this winter 🏠❄️. I've got a cousin who's got this super cool cabin in the Cotswolds and it sounds like absolute heaven – log fires, hot chocolate by the window, and snow-covered walks just outside the door ❤️👣. I'm thinking of taking her up on an invite, fingers crossed 🤞!

I'm not really into the whole UK rural retreat vibe this time of year 🤷‍♂️. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of cozying up by a fire or taking in the breathtaking views, but it's just so... chilly outside 😒. Give me a warm beachside spot any day ☀️. Like, have you guys considered Hawaii or Bali? Those places are always winter wonderlands no matter what time of year it is 🌴💆‍♀️. Plus, the food and vibes are way more my speed 🍜🌊

🏔️ I'm so over these "Winter Wonderland" cliches in the UK. Like, yeah, it's cold outside, but do we really need to romanticize it that much? Can't we just enjoy the countryside without all the forced cheer and hot chocolate? I'd love to see some lesser-known spots that aren't just touristy little villages with overpriced tea rooms 🍵💸
