Senate votes to hang Jan. 6 plaque after yearslong stalemate

US Senate Breaks Stalemate, Approves Display of Jan. 6 Plaque Amid Tensions Over Capitol Riot.

In a move that has been years in the making, the US Senate finally broke a long-standing stalemate over a plaque commemorating the police who defended the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. The lawmakers voted to display the plaque recognizing the bravery of those law enforcement officers whose lives were put at risk during the violent riot.

Despite a previous vote in 2022 where Congress had approved the installation of the plaque by March 2023, some lawmakers opposed the measure, which led to a lengthy delay in its implementation. The approval came after years-long negotiations, marking a significant shift away from the contentious debate that has plagued Capitol Hill over this issue.

It's worth noting that this development is not without controversy, as the topic of what to commemorate on January 6 remains highly polarized.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one 🤯... I mean, it's about time, right? The Senate finally made a move on this plaque thingy after years of back and forth. It's crazy how some people were dead set against even acknowledging the bravery of those cops who were put in harm's way that day. I get why some folks might be hesitant to talk about it, but come on, it's just common decency 🤷‍♀️.

The thing is, this plaque doesn't have to be some grand monument or anything. It's just a simple recognition of the good work those officers did that day. And honestly, who wouldn't want to honor someone for risking their life to keep others safe? It's not like we're erasing history or something (although, I guess it's still pretty divisive).

I'm glad it finally got done, though. We need more unity and less division in this country 🌈. And hey, if some people can't handle a little bit of truth and respect for our law enforcement, then maybe they're not the right ones to be in office 👎.

🤔 I'm kinda surprised they finally got around to approving it, to be honest. I mean, you'd think with all the time that passed, it would've been a done deal already. The thing is, some people are still super passionate about commemorating that day, and others aren't too keen on acknowledging what happened. It's like, can we just find a way to honor those officers without stirring up so much drama? 🤷‍♂️ I think it's good that they're finally moving forward with it, but at the same time, I'm kinda worried about how this is gonna play out in terms of, like, what else gets commemorated and when. It feels like we're always tiptoeing around sensitive topics because of fear of offending people. 🤦‍♂️

just hope they get it right next time... been hearing about this plaque for ages and its crazy how long it took them to decide 🤯. anyway, i think its a good move to recognize the bravery of those law enforcement officers who risked their lives on jan 6th, but can we please not forget the millions of americans who were protesting peacefully that day too? 👀. i hope this plaque doesn't become another symbol of division and instead brings people together to reflect on what really happened that day 💔.

I think it's kinda weird that they're finally moving forward with displaying the plaque but I guess it's about time we acknowledge those officers who risked their lives protecting the Capitol 🤔💯. It's been dragging on for years, and I'm glad the Senate is making progress, even if some people still have strong opinions about it 😐. Now that it's done, maybe we can move on from the drama and just focus on honoring those brave officers who put themselves in harm's way 🙏💕. Still a bit unsure about what else to commemorate on Jan 6 tho, feels like we're glossing over some pretty sensitive stuff 🤔

I'm still wondering how this plaque thingy ever became such a big deal 🤔. Like, I get it, cops putting their lives at risk is a big deal and all that, but can't we just move forward without making a huge fuss about it? The fact that it's taken so long to approve it makes me question the whole process - was it really necessary to have such a contentious debate? And what's up with this perpetual polarizing effect 🤯? Can't lawmakers agree on anything for once? This whole thing just seems like a perfect example of how easily something can get stuck in partisan politics. What's next, a plaque commemorating the day of Trump's inauguration? 😒

I'm so done with all the drama going down in DC 🤯💸. It feels like they're still trying to figure out who to blame for that crazy riot, and now it's about giving props to the cops? Like, can't we just agree on something already?! 😩 The fact that this took years to get resolved is wild - all those folks were affected by what happened on Jan 6th, 2021 🤕. It's cool that they're trying to honor the brave officers who risked their lives, but at the same time, I'm still salty about how polarized everything has gotten 💔

I'm so relieved they finally made a decision about that plaque 🙏🏼💕! It's amazing how long it took them to get around to recognizing those brave police officers who risked their lives during that crazy day at the Capitol 💪🏽🇺🇸. I know there are still some people who might not agree with it, but I think it's a great way to honor their service and sacrifices ❤️. And let's be real, after all these years, it's time for them to finally get the recognition they deserve 😊!
