Sen. Amy Klobuchar says she will vote against DHS funding

Senator Amy Klobuchar vows to vote against DHS funding after Minneapolis shooting.

In a dramatic display of bipartisan opposition, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced on Sunday that she would not support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill due to the recent fatal shooting of an American citizen by a federal agent in Minneapolis.

The senator expressed her outrage and frustration with the government's handling of the situation, stating, "When they're killing two constituents in my state, and they're taking 2-year-olds out of the arms of their mom, and they are taking an elder Hmong man out of his house and putting him out there in his underwear, and then figuring out they have the wrong man... no, I am not voting for this funding."

Klobuchar's stance is shared by fellow Democrat Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), who vowed to block any funding related to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Border Patrol. "I'm not giving ICE or border patrol another dime," Schiff said.

The shooting of 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti has sparked widespread condemnation, with many questioning the Trump administration's narrative surrounding the incident. Videos from witnesses contradict the administration's account, showing Pretti approaching law enforcement to help someone being pushed by federal agents, rather than displaying aggressive behavior.

Klobuchar also criticized the administration's rhetoric, saying, "When I hear the officials from the Trump administration describe this video in ways that simply aren't true, I just keep thinking, 'Your eyes don't lie.'"

The senator emphasized her commitment to addressing the issue of ICE's presence in Minnesota, stating, "They are making us less safe, not more safe." She also called for a transparent investigation into Pretti's and another victim's killings.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has stated that Democrats will not provide necessary votes if DHS funding is included in the appropriations bill. A partial government shutdown looms as a possibility if the bill does not pass by the end of the month.

The senator's opposition to the funding bill reflects growing bipartisan discontent with the government's handling of immigration enforcement operations. Klobuchar has filed paperwork for a potential gubernatorial run but emphasized that her focus remains on addressing ICE's presence in Minnesota, saying there is "no time for politics right now."

I mean come on... DHS funding? That's like a joke ๐Ÿคฃ. Senator Amy Klobuchar is totally right to be outraged about this. Icing on the cake is that the Trump administration is trying to spin this whole thing and make it sound like Alex Pretti was being aggressive or something ๐Ÿ™„. Newsflash: those videos from witnesses clearly show he was just trying to help someone! And what's with the rhetoric? "Your eyes don't lie"? Are you kidding me? If that's not a blatant example of spin, I don't know what is ๐Ÿ˜’.

And let's be real, this isn't about partisan politics - it's about doing the right thing. ICE is making communities less safe, period. Klobuchar's stance on this is not only justified but also long overdue. I'm loving that she's putting her foot down and refusing to support a funding bill that enables this kind of behavior. No time for politics? Tell me about it - we need politicians like Klobuchar who are willing to take a stand, no matter how hard it gets ๐Ÿ’ช.

๐Ÿ˜ฑ just saw this and I'm already having nightmares about it... DHS funding bill vetoed by 2 senators already? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ what's next? a partial gov shutdown? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I don't think we're out of the woods on this one yet. Also, can we talk about how ICE is just making things worse in MN? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ it's like they're not even trying to hide their agenda anymore... Schumer's stance sounds good, but what if it doesn't stick? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

OMG you guys I am literally so done with this ๐Ÿคฏ DHS funding bill is like the ultimate example of how broken our system is ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I mean come on a senator actually has to vote against their own party's bill because some dumb admin guy messed up and killed two American citizens ๐Ÿ’€ and what really gets me is that they're trying to spin it as "the victim was aggressive" ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ no way, we have video evidence showing the opposite, people! We need better oversight and accountability in our government, not more excuses and cover-ups ๐Ÿšซ Klobuchar for the win ๐Ÿ‘

man this shooting is super messed up ๐Ÿค• DHS funding bill is already gonna be a mess with senator klobuchar voting against it she's got some valid points too, like how the admin is downplaying the whole thing and saying pretti was being aggressive lol no way she just helped someone being pushed by federal agents ๐Ÿšซ this is why we need more transparency and accountability from our leaders, no time for politics right now ๐Ÿ‘Š

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ I'm kinda surprised Amy Klobuchar is taking a strong stance like this ๐Ÿค”. Did you see those stats on the clearance rates of law enforcement? Like 1% accuracy rate for identifying suspects ๐Ÿ“Š. It's crazy! The FBI has been investigating these incidents for years, but still no progress ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. And can we talk about the ICE presence in Minnesota? It's like they're sucking the life outta that state ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. I mean, have you seen the numbers on deportations since 2017? Over 1 million people ๐Ÿšซ. It's time for some real change, if you ask me ๐Ÿคž.

๐Ÿค” I'm so sorry I missed this thread, what's going on with Senator Klobuchar not voting for DHS funding? She seems really upset about the Minneapolis shooting ๐Ÿšซ. Like, who can blame her? A nurse gets shot by a federal agent and no one is held accountable... it's just wrong ๐Ÿค•. And can we talk about how ridiculous it is that they're still trying to justify their actions after all these videos have come out showing Alex Pretti being peaceful and helping someone in need ๐Ÿ˜’. I'm with Senator Klobuchar on this one, totally. We need to hold our government officials accountable for their actions, not just when it's convenient but always ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

This is getting outta hand! ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, I get it, the shooting was tragic and the whole thing with ICE seems super sketchy. But a partial government shutdown? That's just gonna hurt all the people who need help, you know? Like, what about the asylum seekers? Or the families who rely on food stamps? It's like, we can't even agree on how to do our jobs properly ๐Ÿค”.

And Senator Klobuchar is right to speak out, but I don't think she's going too far by saying that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity. I mean, Alex Pretti was just trying to help someone in need! It's crazy that the administration can just make stuff up like that ๐Ÿ™„.

But at the same time, I'm all for holding people accountable and making sure our laws are fair and just. It's not about being "politically correct" or anything like that... it's just basic human decency ๐Ÿ˜Š. Can't we all just get along?

This is getting crazy ๐Ÿคฏ I'm all for holding our leaders accountable and making sure they're not covering up some shady stuff. The fact that there are videos from witnesses contradicting the administration's account is pretty wild. And it's not like Alex Pretti was doing anything wrong, just trying to help someone in need. It's totally unacceptable that ICE is still operating in Minnesota and putting our communities at risk ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’”

I'm shocked... not by the shooting itself, cuz I mean, who needs that kind of drama in their life? ๐Ÿ˜‚ But by Amy Klobuchar actually voting against DHS funding. I guess you could say she's a real 'law and order' type, but also kinda like a grandma who's all 'stop chasing my grandkids, I just want to bake cookies!' ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ‘ต

I mean, come on, folks, can't we all just get along? And by that, I mean the police and the civilians. It's not like they're trying to make a ' federal case' out of this thing! ๐Ÿคฃ But seriously, Klobuchar's stance is reasonable, especially after seeing those videos of Alex Pretti getting taken down. No one wants 2-year-olds or anyone else in their underwear, right? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

And can we talk about Chuck Schumer for a sec? I'm all for him being the ' Minority Leader' and all, but dude, partial government shutdowns are like, so last season! ๐Ÿคช Can't they just 'budget-ify' their way out of this one? ๐Ÿ’ธ
