Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 1,386

As the war rages on in Ukraine for over 1,386 days, the situation remains dire with both sides dug in.

Thursday brought a series of high-intensity military exchanges between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed militias in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian sea drones successfully struck a Russian oil tanker sailing through the Black Sea, disabling it with powerful explosions that inflicted critical damage on the vessel.

Meanwhile, three people were killed and two injured by Ukrainian shelling of a hospital in the Russia-controlled Kherson region. The medical facility's employees sustained casualties when rocket attacks hit the area.

Ukrainian forces are pushing back against a large Russian mechanized attack in eastern city of Pokrovsk, according to Kyiv's military. Russian air defenses also shot down two drones heading towards Moscow.

On a more diplomatic front, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed optimism about ongoing talks with the United States, which have led to key points on a post-war reconstruction plan and an economic document being agreed upon by both parties. The US is providing significant military aid to Ukraine, including $400 million in annual assistance over two years.

In other news, the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany met with President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, where a critical meeting on peace efforts was held.

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about increased tensions between Russia and China, particularly regarding Moscow's sale of scarce resources to Beijing. Ukraine's Head of Foreign Intelligence Service has reported that the situation is worsening with intensifying cooperation between the two nations in military-industrial sectors.

In response to growing economic dependence on Russia, Ukrainian officials are pushing for sanctions against Russian companies such as Lukoil and Rosneft. The US has extended its deadline for negotiations on buying Lukoil's global assets by a month to January 17.

European Union ambassadors have cleared the bloc's plan to phase out Russian gas imports by late 2027, paving way for the final hurdle before banning the import of Russian energy products from Europe.

OMG 🤯 this war is just getting more intense 💥, like over 1k days already?! 1,386 days is crazy 😲 and both sides are just dug in... it's so sad for all those innocent people in the middle 💔.

I'm kinda glad that US & Ukraine have got some good news going on 🤝, especially with this reconstruction plan & economic doc agreement 📝, but at the same time it's heartbreaking to hear about hospital attacks & casualties 🚑.

What's concerning me tho is Russia & China's increasing coop 👀, especially over resources... we need world leaders to talk more instead of just talking 💬.
