NBC's "Today" Show Lands Permanent Co-Host with Philly Native Sheinelle Jones
Sheinelle Jones, a lifelong Philadelphian and seasoned TV personality, has been named Jenna Bush Hager's permanent co-host for the final hour of NBC's flagship morning program. The appointment marks a new chapter in the show's history, following the departure of longtime anchor Hoda Kotb.
Jones, 47, joined NBC in 2014 as host on the network's weekend edition of "Weekend Today" before transitioning to weekday programming in 2019. Her addition brings a fresh perspective and chemistry with Bush Hager, whom she has tested her rapport with during guest co-host appearances earlier this year.
The duo will debut under the new title "Today with Jenna & Friends," commencing at 10 a.m. on January 12. Jones, who is also the host of live-action nature show "Wild Child," joins a list of temporary guest hosts that included Scarlett Johansson, Amy Poehler, Michelle Obama, Tyra Banks, and Andy Cohen.
Born in Philadelphia, Jones moved to Wichita, Kansas, during her childhood and pursued a career in broadcast journalism at Northwestern University. After interning with local stations in Illinois and Oklahoma, she returned to Philadelphia to co-host the popular "Good Day Philadelphia" morning show on FOX 29 with Mike Jerrick.
Bush Hager praised Jones for her exceptional broadcasting skills, stating that she embodies the very spirit of the program. The two have been friends for over a decade, according to Bush Hager, who acknowledged that the change will be "a beautiful chapter in this show."
