Traffic Disruptions Ahead for Philly Commuters as Overnight Lane Closures Hit I-95
Philadelphia drivers face another frustrating week of roadwork disruptions, with overnight lane closures set to affect sections of Interstate 95 across the city. According to PennDOT, nighttime construction on two segments of I-95 – spanning between Wheatsheaf Lane and Margaret Street – may cause additional traffic delays.
Crews will be working from 9 p.m. Monday through Friday to remove barriers, pave the highway, and make lane adjustments as part of a $355.3 million project to widen and reconstruct I-95. However, this work will result in overnight lane closures between Cottman Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges, with drivers advised to prepare for reduced traffic.
Separately, daytime line striping operations will take place on Chestnut Street between 22nd and Broad Streets, as well as Walnut Street between Broad and 23rd streets. A single lane closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, while another lane will be closed each night between midnight and 5 a.m.
Meanwhile, in South Philadelphia, drivers can expect a single lane closure on I-95 South between Christian Street and Packer Avenue from 9 p.m. to midnight Wednesday to Friday. The nighttime work is part of a $37.4 million project aimed at establishing a new traffic pattern that will facilitate future bridge repairs.
The ramp from Aramingo Avenue to I-95 remains closed, with drivers advised to take the exit for Aramingo Avenue and follow the detour signs through the Bridge Street interchange.

! It's like they're not done yet 
. Overnight lane closures on I-95 are going to be a real pain for commuters, especially those who take the morning train into the city. And what's up with the timing? Can't they do this stuff at night when everyone's asleep? 
The $355.3 million price tag doesn't hurt either... seems like a lot for lane closures

Just one lane closure from 9 am to 5 pm should be manageable. And the single lane closure on I-95 South in South Philly isn't too long, just a few hours each night.

... i get it, they gotta make improvements but overnight lane closures are just so frustrating. like, can't they do this during the day when people are actually working? or better yet, how about they provide some actual compensation for all the traffic misery we're gonna endure 
, another round of roadwork to deal with in Philly! Can't they do this at night when nobody's trying to commute? I mean, I get it, construction is necessary, but can't they plan around rush hour? 
. I swear, PennDOT should make better use of their time and money. We all pay taxes, so we expect some decent infrastructure maintenance, not just random lane closures

The city needs to prioritize getting these roads fixed and figure out a way to do it that doesn't disrupt our daily lives. I'm not asking for much, just a smooth commute without all the headaches 
I swear, every time there's a big project going on, it's always something else that gets shut down or closed for repairs 
On the other hand, it's just so inconvenient... do they even consider the impact on all these small businesses nearby when planning these projects? I guess that's just part of living in a city with growing pains 
Can't they just do the construction during the day? 
It's not like they can control the morning rush, but still... it feels like they're making things worse. And I don't even want to talk about the traffic delays that are already caused by other roadwork projects in the city. 
I swear, I'll never make it to work on time if these lanes keep getting closed down... and another thing, can we get some decent detour signs around here? All this weaving in and out of traffic is giving me car sickness!
