Orphans review – oddball hostage power play is a peculiar gem

I'm kinda torn on this one... I mean, I loved how the play explores themes of trauma and vulnerability, but at the same time, I felt like it was a bit too heavy-handed with its symbolism 🤔. Like, I get what they're trying to say about power dynamics, but sometimes I felt like it just got lost in all the weirdness 🌪️.

And can we talk about Harold for a sec? I mean, he's literally the most interesting character, but at the same time, his motivations are kinda hard to pin down 🤷‍♀️. Like, is he really just manipulating these guys or does he genuinely care about them? Idk, man... it's all so confusing 😩.

But despite all that, I still thought the performances were top-notch 🎭! Treat, Phillip, and Harold all brought such depth to their characters, and it was amazing to watch them interact with each other on stage 💥. So yeah, "Orphans" might be a weird, uncomfortable ride, but it's definitely one that'll stay with you long after the curtain falls 😅.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this play "Orphans". The acting is insane! Treat, Phillip, and Harold are like three pieces of a toxic puzzle that just clicks together so well 🤯. But I gotta say, I was kinda expecting more concrete answers about the brothers' past and Harold's motivations. Like, what's up with all these unanswered questions? It feels like they're just glossing over some heavy stuff for the sake of drama.

Also, can we talk about how the play tackles themes of trauma and power struggles? It's definitely thought-provoking, but sometimes I felt like it was more "dark and moody" than actually saying anything new or insightful. The tension on stage is palpable, though! Director Al Miller knows what they're doing 😬.

What really got me, though, is how the play blurs the lines between right and wrong. Like, are the brothers' bigoted views justified? Is Harold's manipulation okay because he's "just trying to survive"? It's all so grey and messy... and that's kinda what makes it so fascinating 🤔
