OpenAI has just made it possible for users to insert their own pets and original personas into videos of the popular mobile game Sora. The new feature allows creators to upload a short video clip of their character or pet, which then gets stitched into an existing video in the app.
To get started, simply head over to your profile page, tap on "Create cameo" and follow the prompts. You can even reuse old Sora-generated videos as references. From there, you'll need to give your character a display name and describe how you want them animated - for example, a wicked green witch might glide with a mysterious, whimsical air and speak in rhymes when casting spells.
When it comes to permissions, you can choose between several options: just you, people you approve, mutual friends, everyone except certain sets of users. You can also tag specific characters whenever you want to generate a Sora video with a cameo in it.
OpenAI's latest feature has sparked controversy, however, as the company has been sued by Cameo - an app that allows users to buy videos from celebrities - over trademark infringement. OpenAI maintains that no one can claim exclusive ownership of the word "cameo," but its use of the term may still cause consumer confusion.
The introduction of character cameos comes with other new features, including stitching, which allows you to stitch multiple clips together and connect videos. There's also a leaderboard showing the most popular and remixed videos, giving users an idea of what's currently trending within the Sora community.
To give you a taste of how this works, OpenAI has shared a video demo of character cameos in action - watch as lil crabby seamlessly stitches together their own cameo with an animated version of themselves.

It's such a cool way for creators to express themselves and add an extra layer of fun to their gameplay. And, like, OpenAI made it super easy to use too!

And yay for tags, so I can share my favorite cameos with friends. But, gotta say, the trademark thingy is kinda shady... I hope OpenAI handles that lawsuit and gets everything sorted out

Can't wait to see what the community comes up with!
Can't wait to see what the community comes up with! That trademark thing is messy. Still, if OpenAI can figure out a way to handle those permissions properly, this could be huge for the gaming community
