A high-speed car chase and subsequent crash involving a state trooper and a Maryville police officer has left one of them critically injured. The incident occurred on Friday night while both law enforcement agencies were providing security for Vice President JD Vance's motorcade in Tennessee.
According to officials, the two officers were involved in an executive protection mission that required multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service. However, it appears that the mission was compromised when a collision occurred between the two vehicles.
An ambulance that was part of the motorcade quickly arrived at the scene and provided medical attention to the injured officer before transporting him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for further treatment. Fortunately, the state trooper involved in the collision was not seriously injured and did not require medical transport.
Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp expressed his gratitude to the community for their concern and support, saying that he and his team were appreciative of the outpouring of sympathy. The Maryville police department also announced that they would provide further updates as more information becomes available regarding the incident.
An investigation into the crash has been launched by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, which is working to determine the cause of the collision.
