No. 17 Illinois gets 113-55 win over Jackson State

UCLA, Illinois, and Gonzaga have been among the top programs in college basketball for years, but some lesser-known schools are starting to make a name for themselves.

The University of Illinois took center stage over the weekend with a convincing 113-55 win over Jackson State. The victory not only marked the start of the Big Ten season, but also showcased the impressive skills of freshman forward David Mirkovic from Montenegro. With an impressive 19 points and 14 rebounds, Mirkovic proved himself to be a valuable asset to the team.

The Illini were led by a strong performance from their international players, including Mirkovic, Ben Humrichous, Tomislav Ivisic, Keaton Wagler, and Jake Davis. The team's high-powered offense netted 17 three-pointers, while also outrebounding Jackson State 61-19.

Despite missing four key players due to injuries, Illinois showed resilience in its dominant performance. A 17-point run early on set the tone for the game, with the Illini taking a commanding 60-27 lead at halftime. The team's strong shooting from beyond the arc was a key factor in their success, with 10 of those three-pointers coming in the first half.

For Jackson State, the loss marked another tough test in its early season schedule. With nine games on the road to start the year, the Tigers will face several top-ranked teams, including No. 2 Houston and Louisville. Meanwhile, Illinois looks to continue its winning ways at home against Florida Gulf Coast this Friday night.

OMG 🀯 just saw that David Mirkovic from Montenegro is a FRESHMAN and already racking up 19 points and 14 rebounds?! That's insane! 😲 I feel like he's going to be a key player for the Illini all season long. And can we talk about how awesome it is that they're getting so much production out of their international players? It's not every day you see a team with such depth and talent, especially in college hoops. πŸ’₯ The fact that they were able to pull off a 17-point run early on and take control of the game was so impressive. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this team as they head into their next matchup against Florida Gulf Coast. πŸ“Ί

OMG u guys!! Illinois is on fire rn!!! I'm loving how they're crushing it in the Big Ten season and showcasing their amazing international talent! David Mirkovic is literally a star player and I'm so hyped to see what he does next! πŸ€©πŸ€ And can we talk about that 17-point run? πŸ’₯ They totally took control of the game and showed everyone what they're capable of. On top of that, their 3-point shooting is insane! 😲 I'm gonna be watching those games all season long! πŸ’• Go Illini!!!

I just saw this thread pop up again πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I feel like the underdog schools are getting more love now that the bigger programs have already made a name for themselves. Like, who's gonna care about Illinois taking down Jackson State when they're already playing in the Big Ten? It's not to say Illinois isn't talented or anything... David Mirkovic is definitely a skilled player 🀩 but I'm just saying, there are some other programs out there that are making waves too. Maybe it's time for people to start paying attention to some of those lesser-known schools instead of always hyping up the big boys?

I'm loving how the Big Ten is starting to flex its muscles in college hoops this season. The Illini's win over Jackson State was a no-brainer, but what really caught my eye was Mirkovic's game - dude's got skills! I mean, 19 points and 14 rebounds as a freshman? He's already gonna be a fan favorite, that's for sure.

And you know how the Big Ten always gets hyped about its top teams, but Illinois has quietly built an amazing program with some talented international recruits. Mirkovic, Humrichous, Ivisic - these guys are making it look easy out there. The team's depth and chemistry are just plain impressive. Can't wait to see how they match up against Florida Gulf Coast this week! πŸ’ͺπŸ€

πŸ€ just watched that game between Illini and Jackson State and I'm loving the talent from those international players 🌎! David Mirkovic is a star in the making πŸ’« 19 points and 14 rebounds, whoa! 🀯 And to think they missed some key players due to injuries, but still managed to come out on top that's what I call heart πŸ’–. The Illini's offense was πŸ”₯ hot from three, 17 threes is crazy! 😲 now let's see how they do against Florida Gulf Coast, could be another big win 🀞

I'm intrigued by all these international players joining college basketball in the US... like David Mirkovic from Montenegro πŸ€”. How's it working out for them? Are they having to adjust to a whole new league and culture? 🏈 I mean, Illinois has some serious firepower with Humrichous and Ivisic too... are these guys recruited specifically because of their basketball skills or is there something more going on? πŸ€‘ And what about Jackson State's young team? They got totally destroyed 😱. Are they expected to be good this season or was that just a bad matchup? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I'm loving the rise of those underdog schools in college basketball πŸ€πŸ˜! UCLA, Illinois, and Gonzaga have been on top for years, but it's awesome to see other programs like Jackson State giving them a run for their money. That freshman David Mirkovic from Montenegro is insane πŸ”₯ - 19 points and 14 rebounds? No problem! And Illinois showing resilience despite missing some key players? That's what makes college hoops so exciting 🀩. The Illini's offense was pure fire, hitting 17 threes and outrebounding JSU by a landslide πŸ†. Can't wait to see what the rest of their season holds. Florida Gulf Coast better bring their A-game when they face Illinois on Friday! πŸ’ͺ

I'm loving how college basketball is really breaking down borders now 🌎! Freshmen like David Mirkovic are already making waves with their talent and work ethic. The fact that a Montenegrin player is dominating on the court in the US isn't surprising, though - the world is getting smaller and athletes from different countries are getting more opportunities to shine. 🀩 But it's also cool to see teams relying on international players like Mirkovic, Humrichous, Ivisic, Wagler, and Davis to take the load off their injured teammates. Illinois showed some serious grit and adaptability in that game, especially when they were missing key players - they just went with what they had and made it work! πŸ’ͺ Now, can't wait to see them take on Florida Gulf Coast this Friday πŸ“Ί

OMG, remember when college hoops was all about Duke & UNLV back in the day? πŸ˜‚ Nowadays, it's like anyone can make a name for themselves! I'm loving seeing these lesser-known schools like Illinois and Gonzaga getting some love. That David Mirkovic kid from Montenegro is straight fire πŸ”₯, 19 points & 14 rebounds? Impressive! And Jackson State's got some tough road ahead with all those top-ranked teams coming at 'em πŸš€. But hey, the Illini looked solid out there, especially with their international squad bringing the heat πŸ’ͺ. I'm intrigued to see how they do against Florida Gulf Coast this week... Bring it on, Illini! πŸ‘Š

Wow 😍, I'm loving the resurgence of lesser-known schools in college basketball! The fact that the University of Illinois is giving big programs a run for their money with talented international players like David Mirkovic is so interesting πŸ€”. It's awesome to see teams adapting and succeeding despite missing key players due to injuries πŸ’ͺ. The Illini's high-powered offense is straight fire πŸ”₯, and I'm excited to see how they'll perform against Florida Gulf Coast this Friday night πŸ‘€

omg u guys i cant even handle how much talent thats coming out of those smaller schools now david mirkovic is literally a beast on the court like 19 points and 14 rebounds from montenegro?? hows he even adapting to college ball so fast? i think its super cool that theres more international players making it big in hoops gotta respect his work ethic πŸ€©πŸ€

lol what a joke they're gonna get destroyed by florida gulf coast πŸ™„ their defense is probably all over the place since they lost four key players i mean it's one thing to show resilience but if you're playing a team that's barely holding on in conference, it's not exactly a win against the world ... and mirkovic sounds like a pretty big liability for them, 19 points and 14 rebounds? yeah right he probably got like 70% of his points from easy shots πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

I'm loving how college basketball is taking off in the US! The University of Illinois's win over Jackson State was insane 🀯! I mean, a 58-point lead by halftime? That's just incredible. And to think they were missing some key players due to injuries, but still managed to pull off an amazing performance 😲. David Mirkovic from Montenegro is definitely one to watch – his skills are so impressive 🎯. It'll be interesting to see how he and the rest of the international players contribute to their team's success this season πŸ€”. And can't wait to catch some more games this Friday night against Florida Gulf Coast ⚽️!

OMG, I'm low-key loving how well that freshman David Mirkovic is doing for the Illini πŸ€©πŸ€! He's got skills for days and is definitely making a name for himself in college hoops 😎. The team's international players are looking like a game-changer too - they're bringing all sorts of talent to the table πŸ’ͺ. And that 17-point run early on was pure magic ✨... I'm kinda surprised Jackson State kept it as close as they did, especially with those injuries πŸ€•. Can't wait to see what's next for Illinois this Friday night, gonna be a fun game to watch! πŸ‘€

omg u guys i just watched that game between illinois and jackson state 🀯 and i gotta say mirkovic is a total beast on the court!!! 😲 his 19 points and 14 rebounds were insane πŸ’ͺ but what really caught my attention was ben humrichous' defense he totally shut down jackson state's star player πŸ‘Š seriously those international players are killing it this season 🌟
