Move Over, MIPS—There’s a New Bike Helmet Safety Tech in Town

The era of MIPs dominance in the bike helmet safety tech world is coming to an end, as a new challenger emerges from the UK - RLS (Release Layer System). This innovative system deflects rotational impact away from the head, reducing the risk of brain trauma by up to 84% when compared to traditional helmets. The device is cleverly positioned outside the helmet's outer shell.

According to founder Michael Venutolo-Mantovani, his team spent years perfecting the RLS technology in a series of warehouse bays in East London. The breakthrough came when they decided to move their device from the inside to the outside of the helmet. The result is a system that reduces concussion risk by four times.

RLS's first commercial helmet available with their tech, the Canyon Deflectr RLS, has been put through rigorous testing at Virginia Tech University's safety lab, earning its highest rating. The bike looks like any other mountain bike helmet on paper, but beneath the surface lies a genius system that protects the basal skull and keeps riders cool in extreme conditions.

When trying out the Deflectr RLS, I found it to be well-made and virtually unnoticeable - what you want from a bike helmet! The only odd choice of strap may take some getting used to. With its massive vents at the top and large intake and exhaust vents working together, this helmet keeps temperatures down.

RLS claims that their Deflectr RLS is just the first in a line of helmets designed for various terrains - not just bike riding but also motorcycles, climbing, and construction. And with a price tag of $160, it's significantly more affordable than some high-end helmets.

The future looks bright for RLS as they continue to innovate and expand their safety tech offerings. For now, they're giving traditional helmet manufacturers a run for their money in the quest to protect cyclists from head trauma.

I'm still using my old MIPS helmet from 2015... I mean, it was great back then, but this new RLS system is like something out of a sci-fi movie 😮! The fact that it deflects rotational impact and reduces brain trauma by up to 84% is mind-blowing. I've been riding my mountain bike for years, and the thought of wearing a helmet with such advanced tech is amazing. $160 might seem steep for some, but if it's half as good as they claim, it's worth every penny. I'm excited to see where this new technology takes us... maybe one day we'll have helmets that can adapt to our riding style 🤔

I'm not sure I'm ready to say goodbye to MIPs just yet... 🤔 Their tech has served us well over the years and it's crazy how much innovation is coming out of the UK right now. This RLS system sounds like a game-changer, though! 84% reduction in brain trauma risk? That's insane! I've got friends who ride seriously aggressive trails all the time, so any improvement in helmet safety is music to my ears 🎵. The fact that it's affordable at $160 is huge too - traditional helmets can be pretty pricey. But I'm curious to see how RLS scales up and what kind of new products they'll come out with... maybe we'll start seeing these things on skateboards or something? 🤯

I'm loving this new kid on the block – gotta respect how RLS is shaking things up with that Release Layer System 🤯. I mean, 84% less risk of brain trauma? That's crazy! 😲 They've done their research and found a way to deflect rotational impact outside the helmet, it's genius stuff really.

As someone who's been around for a bit, I can tell you that bike helmets used to be all about safety first, but now we're seeing innovation happening left and right. $160 is actually pretty reasonable considering what they've got to offer – I'd say it's worth the investment if you're serious about staying safe on the roads.

I'm excited to see where RLS takes this tech from here, especially with plans for expansion into other areas like motorcycles and climbing. It'll be interesting to see how traditional helmet makers respond to this new competition 💪

I'm not sure if I love or hate this new RLS system... 🤔 I mean, 84% reduction in brain trauma is pretty impressive, but at the same time, isn't it kinda weird that it's positioned outside the helmet? Like, what happens when the helmet gets damaged or deformed? Does the RLS just kind of... float away? 😂 And $160 seems like a pretty steep price tag considering some other helmets are half as good. BUT on the flip side, if this tech can really keep you cool in extreme conditions and is basically invisible under the helmet, I'm all for it! 💦 I guess what's really confusing me is that traditional manufacturers are getting "ran" by RLS... is that a good thing or bad for cyclists? 🤷‍♂️

I'm loving this new technology! 84% reduction in brain trauma is wild 💥 I've been riding my bike for years and never thought about how much more safer helmets could be 🙏 The idea of deflecting rotational impact outside the helmet's outer shell makes total sense 🔍 Can't wait to try one out, but what about durability? How long will it last with all that innovation 🤔

🤔 This new RLS system sounds so cool! I mean, who wouldn't want to reduce the risk of brain trauma by 84% 🤯? It's amazing that it was perfected after years of testing in warehouse bays in East London 🏗️. The fact that it's now available for different terrains like motorcycles and climbing is super exciting 😃. $160 seems like a pretty good price considering the safety benefits 💸. I'm curious to know more about how it works, though - how exactly does the device deflect rotational impact? Is it comfy for long rides or is it more of an "I gotta wear this" kind of thing 🤷‍♀️?

I gotta say, this new RLS system is pretty cool 😎... kinda like how my old school computer had this sick cooling fan that kept it from overheating 🤖. Anyway, back to bike helmets - I remember when they were just plain basic and you'd have to tape 'em up to keep 'em secure 📦. Now, with all these fancy techs comin' out, it's like we're livin' in a sci-fi movie 🚀! This RLS system is like, whoa... deflecting rotational impact? That's wild 🤯. Four times less concussion risk? That's like a superpower 💪. And the price is right too - I can get myself a sweet new gaming rig for that kinda cash 💸. Not sure if it'll catch on with all the old-school helmet folks, but I'm stoked to see innovation in bike safety 🚴‍♂️. Bring it on, RLS! 🔥

im so hyped about this new RLS tech 🤯, it sounds like game changer for bike helmets! 84% reduction in brain trauma is insane, and I can already imagine how cool it would be to have such a helmet on my next ride 💨. The fact that they moved the device outside the helmet was pure genius 👏, I mean who needs all that extra weight and bulk inside?

and $160 is really reasonable for something so advanced 🤑, I just hope traditional manufacturers step up their game or we might see some RLS-only brands popping up soon 😎. either way, it's awesome to see innovation happening in the world of bike safety 🔥!

💥 Just had to upgrade my bike helmet game already 🤯, not sure about the price tho $160 is steep 💸. Hope they keep innovating and make it more affordable for everyone 👍.

Just read about this new RLS system and I'm like "why not now? 🤔" I mean, a 84% reduction in brain trauma sounds crazy good! But what's wild is that it was perfected in some warehouse bays in East London...like, who knew bike helmets were getting such a huge upgrade behind the scenes? 😂 And they say this tech has been tested by some heavy-hitters at Virginia Tech University too, so I trust that they know their stuff. The Canyon Deflectr RLS is pretty sweet-looking for a helmet with all that fancy tech inside...I can see why they're hyped about it! 👍

I mean, can you believe it? 🤯 These new helmets are literally changing the game! I was just talking to my son about how crazy old-school bike helmets were back in his day... no air vents, no sweat management, just a hard plastic shell that made you feel like you were wearing a tin hat. 😂 The Deflectr RLS is like a breath of fresh air (no pun intended). I'm not sure if $160 is too steep, but the price tag seems reasonable considering what it's got under the hood - literally! 💡

OMG 🤯 I'm so stoked to see a new player in the bike helmet game that's actually making a difference! 84% reduction in brain trauma is wild 💥 The fact that it's outside the helmet shell is genius 🔍, like how they flipped the script on traditional design. And yeah, $160 is a steal for what you're getting 🤑. It's time to give those MIPs the boot 👋 and let innovation take over! The future of bike safety looks bright 💡 and I'm hyped to see where RLS goes from here 🔥

OMG this RLS thingy sounds sooo cool 🤯! I mean who needs all those extra features inside the helmet when you can just put it outside? Genius idea, right? And that 84% reduction in brain trauma is insane 💥! Not to mention it's only $160 which is super reasonable compared to other helmets. I'm loving how they're thinking about expanding their tech to other industries too, like construction and motorcycles. It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out, especially with big helmet brands getting challenged 😅

🤔 I'm still trying to wrap my head around how MIPs have been dominating this market for so long... it's like they just kinda showed up and everyone else played catch-up 🚴‍♂️. But honestly, the fact that RLS is finally shaking things up with their Release Layer System is a game-changer 💡. I mean, 84% reduction in brain trauma risk? That's wild! And it's not like they had to compromise on style or functionality too - the Canyon Deflectr RLS looks and feels like a normal helmet 🤷‍♂️. The fact that they're already making helmets for other industries is super exciting, I'm curious to see how this plays out in the long run 🔜. One thing though, $160 is still a bit steep for me - but hey, if it's 4 times safer than traditional helmets, maybe it's worth it 😊
