Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift review – TV detective adaptation is occasionally lethal

The Midsomer Murders Tour Brings a Deadly Sense of Humour to the Stage

Guy Unsworth's adaptation of Caroline Graham's "The Killings at Badger's Drift" brings the beloved TV detective DCI John Barnaby to life in a theatrical tour that promises to be a killer night out. The show, which has been delighting ITV audiences for 28 years, follows the investigation into the murder of a horticulturist in her kitchen, with Barnaby uncovering a web of deceit and suspicion among the quirky residents of Badger's Drift.

The stage production boasts an impressive cast of seven actors, who play multiple roles with ease, swapping costumes and genders with aplomb. The result is a hilarious and entertaining romp that pokes fun at the conventions of crime dramas and rural English life, drawing comparisons to Greek tragedy in its portrayal of eccentric villagers and their bizarre antics.

The show's clever script, penned by Unsworth, is full of witty one-liners and comedic moments, making it clear that this production is more about jokes than genuine drama. However, some critics may find the tone uneven at times, veering between slapstick comedy and darker themes. Nevertheless, fans of the TV series will undoubtedly enjoy the show's lighthearted take on their beloved detective.

The tour itself promises to be a spectacle, with actors sliding in and out of character on stage, much like the quick cuts of a television episode. The result is an immersive and engaging experience that feels more like a panto than a traditional theatre production.

For those unfamiliar with Midsomer Murders, this tour may not be the best introduction to the world of rural English crime dramas. However, for fans of the show, it promises to be a treat. If you don't have a ticket by the end of midsummer, well, that's a death sentence – but book now and enjoy the ride!

I'm stoked about this Midsomer Murders tour 🤣! I mean, who wouldn't want to see DCI John Barnaby bring some justice (and laughs) to the stage? The idea of seven actors playing multiple roles is genius 💡. It's like a big ol' game of dress-up, and I can already imagine the hilarious moments where they're swapping costumes left and right 🤣. I do hope they include some Easter eggs for fans of the TV show, though - that'd be the icing on the cake! But honestly, if you're not familiar with Midsomer Murders, this might not be the best introduction to the series... maybe stick to watching the actual episodes instead 😂. Still, I'm sure it'll be a blast for anyone who's a fan 🎉.

OMG 🤣 this stage tour is gonna be so lit! I mean, who doesn't love a good whodunit with a side of slapstick humor? 🤪 The fact that they're doing all these multiple roles and costumes is like, totally mind-blowing, you know? 😲 But what really got me thinking is, are they trying to send us a message or something? Like, the show's poking fun at crime dramas in general? 🤔 Or is it just a clever marketing ploy to get more people interested in Midsomer Murders? 🤑 I'm not saying it's necessarily conspiracy theory stuff, but... have you considered that maybe they're trying to brainwash us into watching more TV? 😏

Just saw the coolest ad for Midsomer Murders tour 🤣 gotta get tickets ASAP!! I'm obsessed with DCI Barnaby and this stage show is supposed to be HILARIOUS 😂, I can already imagine Guy Unsworth's witty script bringing those quirky villagers to life on stage! Costume changes are everything 💃🏻💅🏼 and the fact that they're playing multiple roles at once is genius 🤩. Plus, who wouldn't want a panto-style experience? 🎭 Book now and get ready for a killer night out (pun intended)!!! 👍

The theatre tour sounds like a blast 😄. I love how they're not taking themselves too seriously, poking fun at the genre and rural life. The cast is impressive, playing multiple roles with ease 👏. It's great to see a show that knows when to be funny and when to keep it more serious 🤔. If you're a fan of Midsomer Murders, this tour should be a dream come true 🎟️. Just don't expect too much depth if you're new to the series 😊.

this is so funny i love how they're making fun of themselves, like, intentionally being cheesy and over-the-top 🤣 it's not every day you see a show about murder and mystery turn into a comedy spectacle. I think that's what makes it so entertaining, the writers know when to take it seriously and when to have some real laughs at their own expense. plus, who doesn't love a good panto? 😂

OMG, I'm so down for this tour 🎭! The idea of DCI John Barnaby getting his witty banter on in a live show is giving me LIFE 💥. And can we talk about how genius it is to swap costumes and genders with each other? It's like they're having a laugh at the conventions of crime dramas 🤣. I do hope they keep the lighthearted tone, though – we don't want it to get too dark for our taste 😂. And panto vibes are always welcome in my book! Can't wait to see the actors slipping in and out of character like pros... this is gonna be a wild ride 🎪.

I'm still thinking about how they're gonna pull off that slide-in-out thing on stage lol 🤣 I mean, it sounds kinda weird but also kinda genius? They better not make us wait too long for our tickets or we'll be the ones feeling like DCI Barnaby with a killer on the loose 😂 But seriously, who's gonna play Tom Barnaby? They're gonna need someone with that quintessential British charm and wit. Can't wait to see how it all comes together! 👍

OMG u gotta check out this theatrical tour of Midsomer Murders 🤣🎭 its like a funny romp through badger drift with dci barnaby 😂🕵️‍♂️ i mean, who doesnt love a good murder mystery w/ quirky villager vibes? 🌿💀 but honestly, the script can be hit or miss sometimes 👏💔 theyre all good at playing multiple roles tho 🤣 and the stage production is totes immersive 🎬👏

omg I'm so stoked about this tour!!! 🤩 they're bringing DCI Barnaby to life on stage and it sounds like it's gonna be such a laugh... I love how they're poking fun at crime dramas and rural life, it's just so British! 😂 the idea of actors swapping costumes and genders is genius, can't wait to see it! but yeah maybe not the best introduction for newbies, might be better suited for us loyal Midsomer fans 🤫

I'm so stoked about this tour 🤩 I mean, who wouldn't want to see DCI Barnaby in action on stage? The fact that they're doing it live is just genius - I love how they're incorporating all these wacky village characters into the show. It's gonna be a real laugh riot, but also some pretty dark moments too 🤔. And can we talk about the cast? 7 actors playing multiple roles at once? That's some serious multitasking skills right there! 💪 I'm definitely getting tickets for this one - it'll be a killer night out (pun intended) 🎟️

omg u gotta check out this new tour it's literally hilarious they have 7 actors playing diff roles and switching costumes/genders on the spot 🤣🎭 it's like a crazy panto on stage but in a good way u know? fans of midsomer murders are gonna love it but if ur not familiar with the show its prob best to get a feel for it first or u might be lost 🤔👍

🤣 I gotta say, this Midsomer Murders Tour sounds like a right old laugh fest! As someone who's grown up with John Barnaby solving crimes in the countryside, it'll be interesting to see how they adapt it for the stage. The fact that they can play multiple roles and swap costumes is genius - it'll definitely make for some entertaining moments on stage.

But what I'm most looking forward to is the witty one-liners and comedic moments. I mean, who doesn't love a good joke about rural English life? 😂 It's great that they're not taking themselves too seriously and poking fun at the conventions of crime dramas. Just hope the tone stays consistent throughout - if it veers into darker territory, might make it feel a bit uneven.

Still, fans of the show are in for a treat! 🎉 I'll be sure to book tickets ASAP before they sell out (no pressure, midsummer is still months away 😉). For those who don't know the show, this tour might not be the best introduction - but if you're already hooked, you won't want to miss it. 👍

I'm low-key excited about this tour 🤣, I mean, who doesn't love a good whodunit with some killer one-liners 😉?! It sounds like they're bringing the funny to Midsomer Murders, which is perfect for those of us who just want to laugh and not think too hard 😂. I do hope it's not too 'killer' for our poor detective John Barnaby though, he's always been a bit of a fish out of water in Badger's Drift 🐟😂. Overall, if you're a fan of the show or just want to see some talented actors have a field day, this tour is definitely worth checking out 🎭👍

OMG u gotta get tix 2 dis tour ASAP!!! 😍 I've been die-ing 4 DCI Barnaby 4eva & this adaptation is literally perfect!!! The cast is amazing, especially Jessica Ransom as Sandra in "The Killings at Badger's Drift" 🤣 She's got some serious comedy chops! The whole production just feels like a fun day out @ the theatre, with plenty of laughs n jokes. Don't worry if u're new 2 Midsomer Murders, it's still gonna be hilarious! 😂 Book ur tix now & get ready 4 a killer night out!!! 💀

idk why they even bother with a tour lol 🤣 i mean, who needs live theatre when u can just watch the show on tv like normal? but i guess for die-hard fans it'll be a fun way to experience dci barnaby in person. and omg the cast sounds so talented - 7 actors playing multiple roles is wild! 🤯 i do hope they don't get too carried away with the slapstick comedy though, it's not everyone's cup of tea. still think it's gonna be a hilarious night out tho 😄

omg u gotta see dis show!!! 🤣👮‍♂️ its like watching midsomer murders but live on stage with crazy costumes & jokes galore! 🎭 i love how they poke fun at all the cheesy drama & rural life is just soooo funny lol, its like a big ol' romp 😂 even if some bits feel a bit uneven, its still a blast from start to finish. get ur tickets before summer ends or u'll be toast 😱💀
