Megyn Kelly minimizes Epstein’s abuse and faces backlash

Megyn Kelly's SiriusXM Show Sparks Fury Over Epstein Case, Prompts Accusations of Downplaying Abuse

The conservative commentator sparked outrage after downplaying the severity of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's crimes on her show. Rather than using the term "pedophile," Kelly used a more nuanced approach, stating that Epstein had a preference for "very young teen types" - specifically 15-year-old girls.

Kelly claimed an unnamed source close to the case told her that Epstein was drawn to "barely legal type" girls, rather than prepubescent children. While she acknowledged the distinction between 15- and 5-year-olds as significant, many critics saw her comments as a thinly veiled attempt to minimize the severity of Epstein's actions.

The comments sparked immediate backlash, with several outlets criticizing Kelly for trying to downplay the abuse perpetrated by Epstein. The Daily Show host Josh Johnson reacted with disgust, calling Kelly's argument "diet pedophilia" and saying that she was perpetuating a damaging narrative that implied there was ever an acceptable age gap.

Online critics echoed this sentiment, accusing Kelly of minimizing sexual abuse by reframing Epstein's crimes as less severe. Survivors' advocates took issue with the distinction, noting that Epstein's decades-long pattern of coercion and trafficking involved minors who were legally incapable of consent, regardless of age.

Kelly has not responded to the criticism, leaving her audience to wonder how she can justify her stance on the case. The comments have raised questions about Kelly's understanding of the severity of Epstein's crimes and whether she is using her platform to perpetuate a narrative that diminishes the impact of abuse on survivors.

ugh, megyn kelly needs to educate herself on this one 🤦‍♀️ her attempt to downplay epstein's crimes was super insensitive & hurtful to victims & their families. she's basically saying it's okay to have a 10 yr old crush on someone who's still a teen, that's not okay at all 💔 using terms like "barely legal types" is also super problematic, it implies that there's some kind of acceptable age range for abuse & that just isn't true. i'm so tired of people trying to minimize the severity of epstein's crimes & perpetuating this narrative that makes it seem like he was just a 'bad apple' instead of a serial abuser 🚫

🤦‍♀️ like, seriously Megyn? Can't she see how downplaying this whole thing is basically saying that 15-year-old girls are okay with having sex with an adult? It's not about being nuanced or complex, it's just plain wrong. The fact that she's trying to make a distinction between "barely legal type" and actual prepubescent kids is just a weak attempt to avoid the real issue here. I'm all for critical thinking, but this feels like Kelly is more interested in spinning her own narrative than actually listening to the survivors' stories. And btw, what's with trying to use that term "diet pedophilia"? That's not even a thing and it's just another way of trying to sugarcoat the severity of Epstein's crimes. 🙄

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Megyn Kelly's recent comments on Epstein... I mean, come on, 15-year-old girls? That's not even a nuance, that's just plain weird 🤯. And what really gets me is that she's using this as an excuse to downplay the severity of his crimes. Newsflash: there's no such thing as "acceptable" when it comes to underage abuse. It's always a serious crime and always a violation of consent.

And can we talk about how ridiculous her claim is? She's saying that Epstein just had a preference for younger girls, but what she's not acknowledging is the impact that has on the victims themselves. Survivors deserve so much better than someone like Kelly trying to downplay their trauma and minimize their suffering.

I don't even know why she thought this was a good idea... maybe it's just me, but I think she should be ashamed of herself for using her platform in this way. 💔

i cant believe megyn kelly would say something like that 🤯, it sounds so insensitive & dismissive of the victims. using terms like "barely legal type" girls makes it sound like she's making excuses for epstein's actions rather than confronting them head-on. its like she's trying to downplay the severity of his crimes by finding a loophole in how he was supposed to be caught. newsflash megyn, its not about nuance, its about acknowledging that sex with minors is NEVER okay 💔

just watched this thing about Megyn Kelly on SiriusXM, gotta say I'm shocked 😱. she basically said this guy Epstein was into "very young teen types" like 15-year-olds but not like, super little kids 🤔. and people are calling her out for it because that's still a pretty big deal, you know? the thing is, survivors of abuse don't care about nuances, they just want to acknowledge that what happened was wrong and hurtful 💔. I'm not sure why she didn't just use the term "pedophile" like everyone else 😅. but yeah, gotta agree with Josh Johnson on this one 👏. the way she's framing it is basically saying there's a difference between 15-year-olds and 5-year-olds and that's just not right 🙄.

just saw megyn kelly's comments on epstein case and I'm shocked. what was she thinking? downplaying his crimes like that? uses terms like "very young teen types" and barely legal girls... it's just not right. makes me think she doesn't understand the severity of what he did to those kids. Josh Johnson's rant about diet pedophilia is spot on - can't believe she's trying to justify this in any way. survivors' advocates are right, there's no acceptable age gap when it comes to consent. feel bad for her audience who might be left wondering if she's lost sight of what's really important 💔

omg i cant believe what megyn kelly said on her show, its so messed up she downplayed jeffrey epstein's crimes and even used some kinda vague language like "very young teen types" to describe his victims can you imagine if she had said something similar about u or me, the way she got to just brush it off is wild anyway i think people have a right to be outraged by her comments, especially given all that we know about epstein's history of abuse and exploitation

omg y'all are being way too sensitive 🙄 i think megyn kelly was just trying to approach the topic in a more nuanced way, you know? like, using the term 'barely legal type' is a legit attempt to differentiate between 15 and 5-year-olds, but i can see how it might come across as dodgy. i don't think she's downplaying the severity of epstein's crimes or anything, she just wants to spark a conversation about age of consent and stuff. josh johnson's 'diet pedophilia' comment is low-key laughable btw. it's all about context, you guys 🤷‍♀️

omg u wont believe wat megyn kelly did 🤯 so she was talkin about jeffrey epstein's case on her show & instead of sayin he was a pedophile or anythin, she used this super vague term "very young teen types" 🤷‍♀️ like, is she tryna downplay how bad it is? or is she just clueless? 😂 i mean, even if u differentiate between 15 & 5 years old, that still sounds pretty messed up to me 👎 what a terrible thing to do on live tv 💔
