Mbappe’s late penalty gives edgy Real Madrid 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano

Real Madrid Stun Rayo Vallecano in Thrilling 2-1 Win at Santiago Bernabeu

In a dramatic turn of events, Real Madrid moved within one point of La Liga leaders Barcelona after edging out nine-man Rayo Vallecano 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Sunday. The match was marked by controversy and drama, with several red cards handed out to players from both sides.

Kylian Mbappe's 100th-minute penalty proved to be the difference-maker in a hard-fought victory that left the Madrid crowd in an unsatisfied mood. Despite boasting the best team in the league for much of the match, Real Madrid struggled to calm the tempestuous atmosphere at home, with fans expressing their discontent towards their players after suffering an early defeat.

Vinicius Junior opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a well-timed shot that sailed over the outstretched hand of Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla and into the net. Los Blancos were in control but failed to appease their fans at halftime, who were less than pleased despite their side's early advantage.

Rayo Vallecano responded by pulling level through Jorge de Frutos' equalizer four minutes into the second half. The visitors looked like they had taken Madrid to the wire before falling short. However, disaster struck for Rayo when Pathe Ciss was given his marching orders for an ugly foul on Dani Ceballos.

The drama continued to unfold as Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa's side took to the field with only nine men. Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the pitch, Kylian Mbappe, who was under pressure throughout much of the match, found himself just a few inches away from securing a second goal when his shot hit the crossbar.

In the 100th minute, however, Mbappe finally broke his duck, dispatching a penalty that proved to be the decisive factor in Real Madrid's win. However, drama continued as Rayo received yet another red card for midfielder Pep Chavarria's second yellow card.

omg what a match 🤯! i was on the edge of my seat the whole time thinking rayo vallecano had it in the bag but that last minute penalty from kylian mbappe was insane 😱 he's just getting better and better! i love how intense the atmosphere was at the santiago bernabeu though - all those red cards must have been super scary for everyone involved 🙅‍♂️. anyway, real madrid's win has definitely put them in a good position to catch barcelona, but it'll be tough to close that gap so soon 💪. what do you guys think about this match? 😊

OMG OMG OMG!!! 🤩👏 that was like one of the craziest matches EVER!!! 😲 i'm still trying to process how real madrid managed to come back from behind and win 2-1!! kylian mbappe is a total genius, what a penalty shot 🙌! and can't believe rayo got two red cards lololol what's going on with that team?? 😂 anywayz congrats to real madrid for pulling ahead in the league standings, let's see if they can keep it up!!! 💪🔥

OMG 🤯 this match was CRAZY!!! I mean, what happened at halftime? The fans were FUMING that their team wasn't putting the pressure on Rayo Vallecano and it showed in the 2nd half! 😱 they were all like "where's the attack?" and it looked like Real Madrid was stuck in neutral 🚫. And then Jorge de Frutos' equalizer was like a major wake-up call for them... but of course, it just fueled their frustration 🔥. I love how Kylian Mbappe stepped up and scored that penalty though 💪! And can we talk about the drama on the pitch? 9 men vs Rayo Vallecano? 😂 that's some crazy stuff. I'm so glad Alvaro Arbeloa kept his cool under pressure 🙌, but seriously, that was a wild ride of emotions for everyone involved 👀

omg what a match lol real madrid had it coming after those fans were giving them all sorts of grief before the game. i feel bad for vinicius junior tho he got a great goal but rayo vallecano wasnt having it and they definitely gave it back to them, like whoa 9 man real madrid is crazy 😂💥

OMG what a match!!! 🤯 I mean, who needs normal football when you can have 9-man drama 😂? And Kylian Mbappe's 100th minute penalty was like the ultimate plot twist 🎬! I'm surprised the fans at Bernabeu didn't just storm the pitch and stage a coup 😅. Anyways, Real Madrid's back on top and we're loving every minute of it (except maybe for the drama 🤣). Los Blancos are looking fierce again and Barcelona better watch out 👊!

OMG 🤯 did u see dat penalty? kylian mbappe is a total game changer! 💥 i mean whats up w/ rayo vallecano tho? they cant even handle one little foul and they get 2 red cards lol 😂 it just didnt seem like they were prepared for the intensity of that match. real madrid played well but their fans are just whiny 🤪 always complaining about somethin' no matter how many goals they score

man I'm still trying to process what just happened 🤯, like 9 men on the field is crazy but at the same time that penalty by Mbappe was insane 💥, can't believe he finally breaks his duck in such a big game 👏, and those fans being unsatisfied with their players after scoring first is wild 😒

omg u gotta wonder what's goin on w those ref decisions lol rayo vallecano got 2 red cards ? pathe ciss & pep chavarria got their marching orders for some pretty nasty fouls, but still real madrid managed to pull off the win 🤯 kylian mbappe's penalty in the 100th minute was pure drama tho 😅 i mean, the crowd was clearly not happy w how the match was goin, but hey at least they got that 2-1 victory 💪

lol what's up with these teams right? they're like two kids fighting over a toy and someone gets hurt 😂 rayo vallecano just lost 2-1 but it felt like 5-0 for real madrid, that penalty by mbappe was like the game winner in a video game 💥 and can we talk about the red cards, nine men on the pitch? it's like they're trying to make football look harder than basketball 🤣 alvaro arbeloa's got some serious nerves, coach 😅

😅 So what was up with that match, right? I mean, I'm glad Real Madrid won and all but c'mon, Rayo Vallecano, you can't let them get away that easily! 😂 That Pathe Ciss guy got red carded way too early, it was like he knew the game was gonna be a long one for him. And can we talk about Kylian Mbappe's penalty? I mean, 100th minute and still getting the job done, nice save by Rayo's keeper! 🙌

😂 omg what a match! i was on the edge of my seat the whole time 🤯 kylian mbappe is literally a superhero 💥 he saved the day with that 100th minute penalty goal 🎉 but seriously can u believe rayo valecano had nine men out there 😳 and real madrid just casually scored two goals 🙄 vinicius junior started it off nice and cool 🔵 i'm not surprised tho the bernabeu crowd was hella salty after that early defat 🤕 los blancos really needed to step up their game but hey at least they got the three points 💯

omg 😲 like wut r u even doin rayo? how do u even get 2 goals back from 9 men down lol 🤣 vini Junior was on fire tho 💥 100th minute penalty by Kylian Mbappe is pure magic ✨ real madrid needs 2 step up their game ASAP ⏱️ they cant just rely on mbappe's heroics all the time 😅 and what r u even doin alvaro arbeloa?? coaching fail 101 🙄

man... that match was like life itself - full of twists and turns. i mean, one minute you're on top, the next, you're down by a goal 🤯. but here's the thing - it's how we respond to those ups and downs that matters. did real madrid get frustrated when things didn't go their way? or did they use that energy to fuel their comeback?

i think we can all learn from kylian mbappe's performance - he didn't give up even when the pressure was on, and his reward was a game-winning penalty 😊. life is full of penalties, but it's how we navigate them that matters. do we let our emotions get the best of us, or do we rise above?

OMG 🤯 Real Madrid just pulled off the craziest comeback against Rayo Vallecano! I mean, 9 men on the pitch and still managing to win? That's what I'm talking about! Kylian Mbappe is a genius 💡, his penalty in the 100th minute was like the icing on the cake 🍰. And can we talk about the drama that went down in this game? Like, who needs a script when you've got a match with 9 red cards? 😂😂😂 This league is LIT 🔥 and I am HERE. FOR. IT! 💖

I love how crazy this match was 🤯! I mean, who doesn't love a 9-man team facing off against a team that's got it all together? It's like Real Madrid was saying "hold my beer" 🍺 as they went down 1-0 and then had to play with a bunch of subs. Vinicius Junior's goal in the 15th min is still giving me life 💥, and I feel bad for Rayo Vallecano for getting all those red cards 😳. And that Kylian Mbappe penalty at the end? pure perfection ⚽️! Can't wait to see what happens next in this wild La Liga season 🤔

I think this match was all about controversy and not just football anymore 🤔😅. I mean, a 9-man team is crazy! How can you have fun watching that? 😂 But seriously, I feel bad for Rayo Vallecano because they were clearly outplayed but still managed to pull level and even get another red card... what was their coach thinking?! 🙄 And don't even get me started on the pen that Kylian Mbappe scored in the 100th minute. Was it a goal or was he just getting some sympathy from the ref? 🤷‍♂️ It's like, I get Real Madrid won but at what cost, right? 😐

Ugh, I'm still trying to figure out how they manage to get away with this. Nine-man team? Come on! It's not like it was a major incident or anything... just a little overzealous tackling. And what's with the ref just sitting there, watching the whole thing go down? You'd think he'd take some responsibility for letting things get that out of hand.

And don't even get me started on the atmosphere in the stadium. People are literally booing their own players. I mean, I get it, they had a bad game and all... but still, it's not like they're getting paid to be unpopular. 😒 The whole thing just feels so unpolished and amateurish.

I swear, the only reason Real Madrid won that game was because they're one of the biggest teams in the world. If they were any other team, they'd probably lose 3-0 with ten men on the pitch. 🤷‍♂️
