‘Marty Supreme’ is a masterpiece you’ll never want to watch again - Detroit Metro Times

"Marty Supreme" is a cinematic experience that will leave you breathless, but not in a good way. This unflinching portrayal of ping pong prodigy Marty Mauser's descent into madness is a masterclass in tension and unease, thanks to the brilliant direction of Josh Safdie.

At 150 minutes, "Marty Supreme" is an exhausting journey that will have you questioning your moral compass. Chalamet shines as the self-absorbed, restlessly ambitious Mauser, who burns through relationships and reputations with impunity. But it's not just the performances that make this film a standout – it's Safdie's unwavering commitment to capturing the darker aspects of human nature.

As Marty navigates the cutthroat world of professional ping pong, Safdie expertly ratchets up the tension, making you feel every ounce of Mauser's anxiety and desperation. This is a film that doesn't shy away from its protagonist's flaws, instead reveling in his narcissism and entitlement. It's a searing indictment of the American Dream, where anyone can be a champion – as long as they're willing to do whatever it takes.

"Marty Supreme" is not an easy watch, but it's a necessary one. Safdie's film asks us to confront our own self-mythologizing and question what drives us to achieve greatness at any cost. By the end of this grueling, visceral ride, you'll be left gasping for air – but also, somehow, a little wiser.

In short, "Marty Supreme" is a cinematic experience that will leave you shaken, disturbed, and perhaps even changed. It's not a film that will comfort or soothe; it's one that will challenge, provoke, and linger in your mind long after the credits roll.

I'm still trying to process this movie, Wow 😲🎥 it's like a punch to the gut, but in a weird way, it feels necessary? I think what bothers me most is how accurately it portrays Marty Mauser's descent into madness - it's both fascinating and terrifying at the same time. The cinematography is insane, but the emotional toll of watching someone spiral out of control is not something I'd wish on anyone Interesting 😳

I just watched this movie Marty Supreme with my friends from school and I'm still trying to process it 😱. The plot is so intense and I was literally on the edge of my seat during the ping pong matches 🏓🔥. But what really got me thinking is how Marty's character relates to our own lives as students, striving for perfection and sometimes getting caught up in the pressure 💪. It made me think about the sacrifices we make (or don't make) for success and whether it's all worth it 🤔. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty wild ride, but also super thought-provoking 😮

idk about this new flick "Marty Supreme" 🤔🎥 its 150 mins long?? thats like watching paint dry 😴 my friend just saw it and she said she was on edge the whole time... that sounds pretty intense for me tho 🤯 isnt it just a bit too much? isnt there such a thing as a "good" nervous energy or are we all just gonna be walking around feeling anxious now 😬

Man, this Marty Supreme flick is like the ultimate critique of our society 🤯. I mean, think about it, we're always sold this narrative that anyone can be a champion if they just work hard enough, right? But what about when you're already on top and still have to maintain that image? That's where Marty's whole issue comes in – he can't stop being himself, even if it means burning bridges and relationships. It's like we're conditioned to prioritize winning over all else... but at what cost? 🤔 Josh Safdie is like a master psychologist or something, expertly getting into the darker corners of human nature. And Robert Chalamet just nails this whole entitled thing 💯.

I gotta respectfully disagree 🤔... I think the 150 minutes is a total drag fest 😴 Marty Supreme sounds like some heavy-hitting drama, but for me, that length just screams "too much" 🙅‍♂️ I mean, who needs to sit through two and a half hours of anxiety and tension? Not me, that's for sure! Can't the filmmakers have just given us a more balanced dose of Mauser's story without overwhelming us? And what's with all the moralizing? Don't get me wrong, I'm down for some thought-provoking themes, but when it feels like Safdie is trying to preach at me from the pulpit 🙄... yeah, no thanks. Give me a more nuanced, less exhausting experience any day! 😎

just watched this movie and i gotta say, chalamet's performance is insane 🤯 he completely transforms into marty mauser, it's like you can see the darkness creeping in behind those eyes 😳 and safdie's direction is just masterful, he knows exactly how to ratchet up the tension without ever being over the top. but what really got me was the way the film critiques the american dream - i mean, we've all been there where we're like 'i'm gonna be a champion no matter what' and then you realize it's not that simple 💪🏽 anyway, safdie's definitely pushed his luck with this one, 150 minutes is a long time to sit through but trust me, it's worth it 📚

Ugh this movie sounds like a total snooze fest 🤯👀 I mean I love a good psychological thriller as much as the next person but 150 minutes is just too long 😴. And ping pong prodigy turned mentally unstable guy? Sounds like a recipe for boredom 😒. Give me a break... 🙄

I just watched "Marty Supreme" 🤯 and I'm still trying to process what I felt... It was like being trapped in this never-ending nightmare with Marty Mauser 🕷️. The way Chalamet's performance just sucked all the life out of me, leaving me gasping for air 😓. And Josh Safdie's direction? Forget about it, it's like he took a sledgehammer to my emotional well and just kept smashing away until I was left a shell of my former self 💔. The film's not easy to watch, but honestly, that's kinda the point... It's like Safdie is holding up this mirror to our own dark sides, daring us to confront what we might be hiding from ourselves 🪐. And yeah, it's messed me up a bit 😕, but I'd rather be shook by a film than feel numb all the time... Maybe that's just the problem with modern cinema?

omg i just watched marty supreme last nite and i'm still trying to process everything 🤯 the tension is so palpable u feel every ounce of martys anxiety and desperation like i was literally on edge the whole time 😨 chalamets performance is insane he totally embodies martys self-absorbed personality, but at the same time it's so heartbreaking to see him unravel like that 😭 safdie did an amazing job capturing the darker aspects of human nature, its not easy watch by any means but i think thats what makes it so impactful 🤔 i need to talk to someone about this movie ASAP

I don't get why ppl are making such a big deal about this movie. Ping pong prodigy goes crazy, so what? I mean, I've seen more intense stuff on a Saturday night at the arcade 🤣. And Chalamet's performance is alright, but not exactly Oscar-worthy, if u ask me. I'm all for a good critique of the American Dream, but this movie feels like it's just trolling us for being naive 😏. And 150 minutes? That's just lazy filmmaking right there 🙄. Give me a break!

🤯 I just watched "Marty Supreme" and I'm still reeling from the experience! 150 minutes is a looong time to be sitting through someone's mental breakdown, but trust me, it's worth it. 🕰️ The tension in this film is palpable - you can feel Marty's anxiety building up like a storm, and by the end of it, I was literally gasping for air 😵. It's not an easy watch, but I think that's what makes it so impactful. Josh Safdie does an amazing job of capturing the darker side of human nature, and Timothée Chalamet is perfection as Marty Mauser 🎥. The only warning I'd give people is to be prepared for some serious self-reflection - this film will make you question your own values and morals 😬. But if you're up for it, "Marty Supreme" is a must-see. Just have some water nearby! 💧

omg i just watched this movie and i'm literally still trying to process everything... its like, marty chamet is so talented but at the same time he's making me feel really uncomfortable with his character's actions 🤯 i love how the director did a great job of capturing the tension and anxiety in the film it's not an easy watch by any means but i think that's what makes it so impactful 💥 i've been thinking about the american dream and how far we're willing to go to achieve success... does anyone else feel like this movie left them with more questions than answers? 🤔

I just watched "Marty Supreme" and I'm still trying to process everything 🤯. The film is super intense, like you're right – it'll leave you feeling drained but also kinda... changed 😬. I mean, Chalamet's performance as Marty Mauser is wild – he's so convincing in that role, it's hard not to feel a little uneasy watching him on screen 🤔. But what really impressed me was the direction by Josh Safdie. He's got this ability to build tension and unease that's just masterful... I felt like I was right there with Marty, feeling his anxiety and desperation as he navigates this cutthroat world of professional ping pong 😅. Anyway, if you're looking for a film experience that'll challenge your perspectives on the American Dream and self-achievement, "Marty Supreme" is definitely worth checking out... but be prepared to take a deep breath after it's all over 💨.

I gotta say, 150 minutes is like, way too long for a film, lol 😂. I mean, I get what they're going for with tension and unease, but can't we just condense it to like, 90-100 minutes? My attention span is shorter than Marty Mauser's temper, tbh! 🤣 And while Chalamet's performance is great, I'm not sure if he's right for the role - his character comes across as a bit too perfect and likable for my taste. Give me some complexity, you know? 🙃

I'm not sure if I'd say Marty Supreme is a 'masterclass' in tension and unease... to me it sounds like a really uncomfortable watch 😬. I mean, while Chalamet's performance might be impressive, I'm still not sold on this film's message. Is it really necessary to make the protagonist so... unsympathetic? And what's with all the moral ambiguity? It feels like Safdie is just trying to make a point without actually giving us anything concrete 🤔. Give me some real character development and substance over just a bunch of anxiety and desperation any day 💥

omg i just watched marty supreme and i'm still reeling 🤯 it's like josh safdie really did his research on ping pong prodigies and their toxic egos 👊 chalamet is insane as marty mauser, i mean the way he portrays that self-absorption and entitlement? 💔 it's like he's tapping into something dark and unsettling. i love how safdie doesn't shy away from the flaws of his characters, instead he's all about showcasing their humanity (or lack thereof) 🤖 anyway, this film is a wild ride, but also kinda thought-provoking? it made me question what drives people to achieve greatness no matter what the cost 🌪️

😞 I just watched Marty Supreme with my friends last night and we're all still trying to process what we just saw. The film is so intense and uncomfortable, but at the same time, it feels really important? Like, Josh Safdie is forcing us to confront some dark stuff about ourselves. 🤯 I loved Timothée Chalamet's performance, he's so raw and unsettling as Marty Mauser. And that ping pong scenes are insane! 😱 But what really stuck with me was how the film makes you question everything - the American Dream, ambition, morality... it's all just so complex and messy. 🤔 I feel like I need to talk about this more when we hang out soon. Want to grab coffee and dissect the movie some more? ☕

OMG, 150 minutes is like, soooo long 🙄! I mean, I get why they wanna make it intense but come on, Josh Safdie can't be serious 😂. I'm all for critiquing societal norms and whatnot, but Marty Mauser just sounds like a total psycho 🤪. Can we talk about how this film is gonna impact the ping pong community? Like, are they really gonna show that much of their behind-the-scenes drama? 🤔 The actor does look fam, though 😎
