The NYPD's Strategic Response Group (SRG) needs to go . I mean, come on, how many times do we gotta see officers getting slammed for treating protesters unfairly? It's like they're more worried about 'counter-terrorism' than keeping the peace in a crowded hotel lobby . And don't even get me started on the whole dual role thing - it just invites problems. I'm glad Mayor Mamdani is taking steps to phase out the SRG, but we need to see real progress and not just lip service .
idk why its taking so long 4 them 2 shut down that unit, its like they're still tryin 2 silence ppl who are speakin out against that immigration crackdown mayor's finally makin moves tho, gotta give him credit for that. but lets be real, this ain't over yet, theres still gonna b protests n riots till that unit is officially dissolved
omg can't believe we're still dealing with this NYPD needs to get its act together already! I mean seriously how many times do protesters need to get arrested, beaten up or worse before some sense kicks in? it's not like they're asking for much just a fair and peaceful protest without getting treated like threats. Newsflash: we are the ones with the First Amendment rights here not you guys .
I'm kinda confused about this, I think ... if Mayor Mamdani is serious about shutting down the SRG unit, that's a good thing, right? but at the same time, it'll be really hard to get rid of a unit that's been around for so long and has such a history with protests and riots. Like, what's gonna happen to all those officers who are trained in counterterrorism and policing? And won't some people just get all anxious about protests and try to shut them down too? I guess it's good that the mayor is taking steps to address the concerns, but it'll be a long time before we really know if this is gonna work out.
I'm not sure why it's taking so long to shut down the SRG unit. Like, isn't 2025 supposed to be a more progressive year? How can you just phase out an entire police unit like that? Are they gonna train new officers or just...disband everything? I'm low-key worried about the safety of protesters. Can't we just have peaceful demonstrations without getting arrested? What's the plan for replacing the SRG with something better? Will it be more community-focused or what?
I'm not sure if 2025 is too soon to get rid of a unit like the SRG... I mean, they've been around for years and it's only now that Mayor Mamdani is taking action . What really concerns me is how quickly this can be phased out - protests are still going on and people are getting arrested by these officers, so what's gonna happen until then? It seems like there's a lot of confusion about who's in charge here...
