Love City Brewing to Open Second Location in Manayunk, Taking Over Former Fat Lady Brewing Space
Manayunk is getting another addition to its bustling neighborhood as Love City Brewing prepares to open its second location in the former Fat Lady Brewing space. The Callowhill-based brewery has announced plans to transform the two-story building at 4323 Main St. into a taproom with a full bar and merchandise station on the ground floor, and an upstairs loft for events.
The new location will be divided into these spaces, allowing Love City to cater to its diverse range of customers. The taproom will be open seven days a week, while the event space will have more limited hours, according to a statement from Melissa Walter, co-owner of Love City.
Walter said that Manayunk was chosen for its vibrant energy and foot traffic, as well as its ability to support their existing location at 1023 Hamilton St. "We were very conscious about choosing a neighborhood that would allow our current location to continue to be successful," she noted.
The Main Street building has a rich history, having once been home to Fat Lady Brewing, a popular taproom that closed its doors in January after four years of operation. Founder Jane Lipton announced the closure, citing "terribly difficult" circumstances and expressing gratitude to her team and customers for their support.
Love City praised the shuttered brewery, highlighting their shared values as woman-owned, family-operated, deeply community-focused, and queer-friendly spaces. The new location plans to continue hosting events like bingo, quizzo, drag shows, and live music that were popular at Fat Lady Brewing.
Food options will be announced at a later date, while the drinks menu will mirror the beer, cocktail, and mocktail offerings from Love City's flagship location in Callowhill.
The news comes as another brewery is set to open on Main Street. Source Brewing has been renovating the former bank building at 4334 Main St., with plans to turn it into a full-fledged brewery, restaurant, and events hub. While its original launch date has passed, sources say the project is back on track.
Manayunk Development Corporation executive Gwen Mccauley expressed her optimism about the new development, saying that large spaces like these tend to sit empty for longer periods of time. "Those things have been taken care of," she said, highlighting a "quick turnaround" by Source Brewing.
Main Street remains "pretty occupied," according to Mccauley, with only 14% of storefronts currently vacant. The arrival of Love City and Source Brewing will undoubtedly boost the area's reputation as a hub for craft beer and community events.
