"I told Paul to take him easy early on," Townend explained after the race. "He took a bit of a breather when he needed it and allowed me to get a clear run at Mark anyway. He had a good jump at the last, put his head down, and rallied off the back of it. His jumping held together, which was a big help."
Despite soft to heavy conditions, Gaelic Warrior's front-end speed initially proved difficult for Fact To File to sustain, but the favourite ultimately found the right balance and began to reel in the leader.
In the end, the 13-8 winner emerged victorious by a neck, with Fastorslow (10-1) a significant distance back in third. As for Fact To File, it was a respectable run from the favourite that fell just short of its goal.
