'I can understand being brought to your knees': Amanda Seyfried on obsession, devotion and the joy of socks

Amanda Seyfried's journey with The Testament of Ann Lee was a deeply personal one, as the actress delves into her own vulnerabilities and fears while portraying the 18th-century Shaker spiritual leader. "I can understand being brought to your knees" is more than just a phrase; it's an experience that resonates deeply with Seyfried, who admits she hasn't been this afraid of a role since playing Marion Davies in Mank.

As Seyfried prepares for her role, she immerses herself in the Mancunian accent and intense physicality required for the part. Her preparation is a testament to her dedication, as she watches videos of Maxine Peake and practices repetitive movements with Celia Rowlson-Hall's choreography. The nourishment Seyfried receives from Fastvold during their time together on set – warm breakfasts, French press coffee, and heartfelt conversations – becomes an integral part of the filmmaking process.

Seyfried's portrayal of Ann Lee is a masterclass in devotion and passion, drawing parallels with her own experiences as a mother. The actress reveals that she talks to her children about being sad when she travels away from them but also reassuring them that what she does is important for her family. This openness has set a high bar for future collaborations.

Amanda Seyfried's performance in The Testament of Ann Lee has garnered critical acclaim, with an Oscar nomination on the horizon. However, it remains to be seen whether the film's unique blend of spirituality and drama will resonate with all audiences. As for Fastvold, her direction is marked by a playful sense of humor, with Seyfried describing her as "a little mad" – a term that captures the actress's infectious energy and willingness to take risks.

The Testament of Ann Lee is an ambitious film that has captivated its cast and crew, including Fastvold and her partner Brady Corbet. The couple's dedication to their craft is evident in their personal lives, as they balance work and family responsibilities with an unwavering commitment to their art. As Seyfried notes, "You don't care about the rules," embodying the very spirit of Ann Lee – a woman who defied conventions to follow her heart.

In a rare interview, Fastvold opens up about her own journey as a director, revealing that she used to tell her daughter why she had to leave for work. The actress's vulnerability and openness have created an atmosphere of mutual respect between Seyfried and Fastvold, which is palpable in every scene they share.

The Testament of Ann Lee is more than just a film – it's a testament to the power of passion, devotion, and creativity. As Amanda Seyfried says, "Why would I need an Oscar now?" The answer lies not in external validation but in the joy and fulfillment she derives from her craft, which has become an integral part of her life as a mother and actress.

I'm loving Amanda Seyfried's transformation into Ann Lee 🤯! She's really digging deep to portray the spiritual leader's vulnerability and fears. I'm also impressed by Fastvold's direction – she's got a great sense of humor that brings out the best in her cast, including Seyfried 😊.

What's interesting is how Seyfried's personal experiences as a mother have influenced her performance. It makes me wonder if this film will resonate with parents who can relate to the sacrifices Ann Lee made for her community 🤔. And I'm curious to see how The Testament of Ann Lee will be received by audiences – does its unique blend of spirituality and drama have what it takes to captivate viewers?

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." 🙂

I think it's amazing how Amanda Seyfried is pouring her heart and soul into this role, not just to play Ann Lee but also to learn from the experience. It's like she's saying, "I'm not just acting, I'm growing." And that's what makes this film so special – it's a reflection of her own journey as a mother and actress. The way Fastvold is supporting Seyfried, both on and off set, is really admirable too. It's all about the connection and trust between two artists who are pushing each other to be their best selves.

omg i just saw this movie about ann lee and i'm like totally inspired by amanda seyrifid's performance 🤩 she's so good at acting but what i love most is how she puts herself in her characters shoes and makes them feel real 🌟 it reminds me of when i was in a play in school and i had to do this super hard scene where my character was crying and i just lost it 😭 the director told me not to cry but i did anyway and it was one of the best performances i ever gave lol 😂
