If your MacBook has macOS 26 Tahoe or later, the "Magnifier" tool is available as an accessibility feature that allows you to use your computer's camera to zoom in on objects around you. To begin with, open the app and click on "Camera." You can then select from three different options - using a webcam connected to the computer, a third-party camera or an iPhone via Apple's Continuity feature.
To display magnified text, click on the "Reader" icon near the top-right corner of your Magnifier window. A sidebar menu appears that includes formatting options, such as changing font color, background, and brightness settings.
For faraway texts, position a webcam facing away from you, swap to it via the app's camera section in the top menu bar, and click on the "Reader" icon again. You can also listen to the identified text by clicking on the play button at the top-right corner of your Magnifier window.
One key use case for Magnifier is when applying makeup, putting in contacts or doing anything else where you need a detailed view of your face. In my testing, using Magnifier worked best with my MacBook's built-in webcam or an iPhone.
To capture faraway text on yourself, simply open the app and click on "Camera." Then use the slider in the top center of the Magnifier window to zoom in. A live feed of your zoomed-in view appears in the main window. You can take a photo by clicking on the camera button at the bottom-left corner of the app to review later.
You can swap between different cameras and adjust settings such as brightness, contrast, and visual appearance for captured images via the image section in Magnifier's menu bar.
