I THINK IT'S SUPER CONCERNING THAT WE'RE FOCUSING ON FORCING HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS INTO HOSPITAL CARE INSTEAD OF ADDRESSED THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WHICH IS AFFORDABLE HOUSING!!! it's like we're just treating the symptoms and not the disease. I mean, I get that SCOUT teams might be trying to help people in crisis situations, but do we really want to force them into a system that doesn't provide any real support for their future?
I'm like totally divided on this SCOUT program thing . On one hand, I think forcing people into hospital care when they're at risk of harming themselves or others is kinda necessary, you know? Like, we can't just ignore the fact that some homeless folks are in crisis mode and need help ASAP. But at the same time... don't get me wrong, I totally get where critics are coming from - increasing SCOUT teams without addressing the root issue of affordable housing is like putting a Band-Aid on a bullet wound . And what about the whole "transit ambassadors" thing? Sounds like a great idea to provide support and resources to riders, but will it really make a difference in the long run? I'm all for community-led initiatives, but we gotta have some sort of structure in place too, you feel me?
idk about scout program... sounds like they're just moving people from one problem to another . like, what's gonna happen after they get sent to hospital? is that really gonna solve the homelessness issue or it's just gonna be a temporary fix ? also, i feel like mayor-elect mamdani's plan sounds way more humane but we'll see how it plays out in practice . it's interesting to see governor hochul's proposal get met with so much controversy tho... maybe she doesn't understand the root of the problem and is just trying to make headlines . i hope they do some research on this before making any decisions .
I mean, who doesn't love a good game of 'let's send people to hospital care' ? I'm sure Hochul's plan is super effective in addressing homelessness... until the next person shows up on the subway with a crisis . Meanwhile, Mamdani's idea of transit ambassadors sounds pretty chill - I guess that's one way to give people a sense of community instead of just shipping them off to hospital care . It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, but I'm rooting for the 'community-led support' vibe . Can't wait to see what other creative solutions come out of NYC's homelessness crisis
