In a San Jose home transformed into a magical world of Harry Potter, hundreds of people flocked to experience the wizardry for themselves this Halloween season. The Petersons' Victorian home, dubbed "the Wizarding World," is a labor of love that has become an annual tradition.
"We love creating things and entertaining people - it's a way for us to have a hobby that makes us happy and spreads joy to visitors," Britta Peterson explained, donning her Hogwarts attire as Professor McGonagall. The homeowner couple sets up an immersive experience with intricate details, transforming their yard into the enchanted realm of Hogwarts.
The themed event, running over 12 nights, welcomed an average of 500 visitors from across the Bay Area, all for free but in support of the nonprofit Give Kids The World Village. This year's goal was $25,000 and organizers are on track to reach it.
For those who attended, the experience was nothing short of enchanting. Couples from nearby cities such as Santa Clara and Mountain View praised the homeowners' dedication to their craft, saying that every detail had been meticulously thought out to transport visitors back in time.
"We have made tremendous efforts in making sure every single detail is perfect - it's wonderful because when your heart is activated, you know you just want to be a kid again," said Sabina Nasibullina of Mountain View. Her partner, Leo Fedorov, added that even the simplest tasks brought him joy, like wearing his chosen outfit.
San Jose Fire Department representatives were on hand, handing out glowsticks to ensure visitors' safety as they trick-or-treated throughout the property. According to Captain Ben Naranjo, accidents do double during this holiday season, and the firefighters take their role in keeping people safe very seriously.
This marks the fifth year the Petersons have hosted the Harry Potter-themed event and has distributed 10,000 glowsticks so far, a testament to its enduring popularity.
