Hamas disarmament in Gaza comes with ‘some sort of amnesty’: US official

US Officials Hint at Amnesty for Hamas Fighters

In a significant development related to the ongoing Gaza ceasefire, a US official has acknowledged that disarmament by Hamas will be accompanied by "some sort of amnesty" for the Palestinian group. This revelation comes as the body of the last Israeli captive in Gaza was recovered on Monday, paving the way for the next phase of the ceasefire deal agreed upon in October.

According to the US official, who spoke during a background briefing by senior officials from President Donald Trump's administration and reporters, Hamas agreed to disarmament and that it will happen. The official also hinted at the possibility of amnesty for those Hamas fighters who lay down their weapons, although they did not provide further details.

This development is seen as a "significant step" in the negotiations, according to Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan, who reported from Washington DC. While the US has been pushing for Hamas disarmament and disarmament, this statement marks an important concession on the Palestinian group's part.

The recovery of Ran Gvili, the last Israeli captive held in Gaza, was confirmed by Israel on Monday. The Hamas leadership hailed the move as a demonstration of their commitment to phase one of the ceasefire agreement, stating that they had fulfilled all their obligations in a clear and responsible manner.

However, it remains unclear what specific terms will be included in any potential amnesty for Hamas fighters. Trump's 20-point Gaza plan outlines the details of disarmament and amnesty, including safe passage for those who wish to leave Gaza and the lifting of certain restrictions on aid flowing into the enclave.

Turkish officials have also become involved in the negotiations, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan meeting with Hamas officials in Ankara on Monday. Turkey's efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza will continue, according to Fidan, who emphasized the country's commitment to protecting the rights of Palestinians in the territory.

😒 I'm telling you, this is just another example of them trying to manipulate the situation to get what they want. I mean, think about it, a "amnesty" for Hamas fighters? That sounds like a clear attempt to appease the group and give them a way out. And what's with all these backchannel talks? It's like they're hiding something from us. 🤐

And don't even get me started on Trump's 20-point plan. I've been saying it for months, that guy is a master manipulator. He's using the Gaza situation to further his own agenda, and now he's trying to pawn off this "amnesty" deal as some kind of humanitarian gesture? Give me a break! 🙄

I'm not buying it. There's always more to the story than what we're being told. Mark my words, there's something fishy going on here... 👀

This is gonna be a wild card... US finally gives some wiggle room for those Hamas fighters. Can't say I agree with it, but then again, you can't blame 'em for wanting peace in the Middle East 🤔. If they're just talkin' about disarmament and amnesty, that's one thing, but what if it's more than that? I mean, we don't even know what the US plan is yet... 20-point Gaza plan, yeah right... 💸🚫

I don't know about this whole thing... 🤔 it feels like a classic case of "you gotta let go of the rope to get pulled up" 😅 I mean, think about it, if the US is offering amnesty for Hamas fighters, that means they're basically saying that these people have done enough harm. But at the same time, are we just giving them a free pass because we want some kind of stability in the region? 🤷‍♂️

It's like we're trying to find this perfect balance between punishment and compassion. But what does that even mean? Is it even possible to make such a decision when there's so much suffering and pain involved? 💔 I don't know, man... it just feels like another layer of complexity in an already complicated situation.

And what about the 20-point plan from Trump? 📝 is that really going to bring peace or is it just more of the same? Can we ever truly find a solution when both sides have such strong convictions and interests? 🤯

idk how i feel about this... US officials are basically saying that if you're a hamas fighter and you lay down your arms, you'll get some kind of free pass 🤔. like, what's the point of disarmament if there's no consequences for those who caused all the harm? sources are needed on this one tho 😬. how is turkey getting involved in these talks btw? did they get something out of it? 🤑

I'm not sure if I should be celebrating or worried 🤔. On one hand, it's a good sign that Hamas is willing to disarm and lay down their weapons, which could potentially lead to a more peaceful future for Gaza. The recovery of Ran Gvili is also a positive development and shows that the ceasefire agreement is starting to hold.

But on the other hand, I'm not convinced about the "amnesty" part 🤷‍♂️. It's one thing to offer amnesty to Hamas fighters who disarm, but it's another thing entirely to provide them with a free pass or immunity from prosecution for any past crimes they may have committed. That could be seen as condoning their actions and creating more problems down the line.

And what about the 20-point plan proposed by Trump? Is that just a nice-to-have, or is it a realistic expectation of what can be achieved in these negotiations? I'm not sure if we should be too optimistic about this whole thing just yet 😐.

I don't know how to feel about this one 🤔... It seems like a big concession from Hamas, and I'm not sure what it means for the ceasefire deal. On one hand, it's good that they're willing to disarm and lay down their weapons - it's been a long time coming 😩. But on the other hand, is this really going to be enough to keep them from getting back into conflict? 🤷‍♂️

And what about all the innocent people caught in the middle of this? 🙏 I just hope that whatever amnesty deal gets made, it's not like they're getting off scot-free 🤑. I mean, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what happened during the conflict... how many people were hurt or killed? 💔

I remember when my dad was alive and he used to talk about the Middle East peace process all the time... it seemed so far-fetched back then 😂. But at least now we're having these kinds of conversations, right? 🤞

um so like a big deal just happened in the middle east right... 🤔 so apparently us officials are hinting at amnesty for hamas fighters if they disarm which is kinda interesting i mean what does that even mean for the ceasefire and stuff yeah i guess it's a good thing or whatever that ran gvili the last israeli captive was recovered so that's a step in the right direction 🙏 but the thing is what are the terms of this amnesty tho will they be able to just leave gaza or what about the aid restrictions and all that 🤔

🤔 I'm not buying it... this "amnesty" thing sounds like a diplomatic cop-out to me. We're talking about Hamas here, an org that's responsible for some serious violence and terrorism. How can we just give 'em a free pass? 🙅‍♂️ The US is trying to create a ceasefire deal, but I think they should be pushing for something more concrete, like actual accountability for their actions.

And what's with the timing of this announcement? We just found out about Ran Gvili's recovery and now we're getting all excited about amnesty for Hamas. 🕰️ It feels like they're trying to wrap things up quickly before anyone can question this "amnesty" deal. I need more info on what's going down here...

You know what's been bugging me lately? I had a friend who went on a road trip across America last year and said their favorite food stop was this tiny diner in New Mexico that serves the most epic chicken enchiladas . Have you ever tried making them at home? It's all about using the right kind of tortillas, you know? My cousin's aunt makes these amazing homemade tortillas from scratch and it totally changes the game

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one 😕. I mean, what does "some sort of amnesty" even look like? Is it just a free pass for them to do whatever they want? And how can we trust that Hamas will follow through on their end of the deal? 🤔 I get that Trump's plan is all about giving Palestinians some breathing room, but what about Israel's security concerns? It feels like we're just sweeping everything under the rug without really thinking it through. 💸 Can't we be more clear-cut about our demands? This whole thing feels like a bunch of half-measures to me 🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure if I should be relieved or worried about this US official's hint at amnesty for Hamas fighters 🤔. I mean, think about it, what does "some sort of amnesty" even mean? Is it just a slap on the wrist or is there something more to it? And what about those who don't want to lay down their weapons? Are they going to be left out in the cold? 😬

And have we learned nothing from history? We're still dealing with the aftermath of Hamas's actions, and now we're considering giving them a free pass? It just doesn't sit right with me. I know some people are saying it's a significant step in the negotiations, but to me, it feels like a big ol' Band-Aid on a bullet wound 💉.

I'm all for finding ways to resolve conflicts peacefully, but we need to make sure that any concessions we're making aren't going to embolden Hamas or create more problems down the line. We should be having this conversation about what kind of terms are on the table and how they'll affect everyone involved, not just the US government 🤝.

🤔 The fact that a US official is hinting at amnesty for Hamas fighters is really interesting. I mean, it's a big concession from them and it could be a game changer in the ceasefire negotiations. But at the same time, it raises so many questions about what specific terms would be included in this amnesty. Would it just be a free pass for Hamas to continue their militant activities or are there strings attached? 🤝

🤔 I don't think we're going to see a situation where someone gets a free pass just for laying down their arms. This whole thing feels like a complex web of politics and concessions. The US is giving Hamas an inch, but what's the real motive here? Is it really about peace or just trying to avoid more bloodshed?

I'm also curious about the specifics of this amnesty – what exactly does that mean? Will there be protections for those who don't want to leave Gaza, or will they still face persecution? And what about the humanitarian side of things? How are we going to ensure that aid keeps flowing into a territory that's already struggling?

It seems like everyone's trying to solve this puzzle without really thinking through the consequences. I just hope someone's got a long-term plan in place before we make any more moves... 🤷‍♂️

oh my goodness this is such a huge step forward for the ceasefire deal 🙌 i'm so proud of everyone involved in making this happen 💖 it makes sense that there would be some sort of amnesty for hamas fighters now that they've agreed to disarmament, but let's keep waiting for all the details 🙂 can't wait to see how it all plays out 💪

Ugh, this is gonna sound crazy, but I think it's kinda cool that they're talking about amnesty for Hamas fighters 🤯. I mean, think about it - we've been watching these guys fight for years and now suddenly everyone's like "hey, let's make peace"? It's wild.

But seriously though, it's a pretty big concession from the US. I don't know if they're making a mistake or what, but I guess you can't just keep pushing for disarmament without giving the other side some room to breathe, right? 😒

And can we talk about how Ran Gvili's recovery is a good thing, but also kinda sad that he had to go through all this in the first place? 🤕 I mean, it's great that he's safe and all, but what happened to him was really messed up.

I don't know, maybe this whole situation will turn out to be for the best. Maybe it'll bring some real peace to Gaza and stuff. But I'm also gonna keep watching from a distance with a mix of hope and skepticism, you know? 🤔

The US is basically saying they'll let Hamas fighters off the hook as long as they disarm 🤔. I mean, can't believe this. They're making concessions left and right for a ceasefire deal that sounds like it's gonna be super one-sided. What's really gonna happen here? Are these "amnesty terms" just some fancy way of saying "we're not gonna bother you guys anymore"? It seems too good (or bad, depending on who you ask) to be true...

🤔 So they're gonna let Hamas fighters off the hook and just let them go? It seems kinda suspicious that all these negotiations are happening when Ran Gvili was finally recovered... is it a way to make everyone feel like they're getting what they want? I mean, on one hand, I get why we wanna disarm Hamas - it's not good for anyone if they keep arming up and starting conflicts. But at the same time, giving them amnesty? That feels like a big concession. What do you guys think is gonna happen here?
