Guy Pearce Apologizes for Sharing ‘Misinformation and Falsehoods’ About Israel on Social Media: ‘I Am Deeply Sorry’

Actor and Israel supporter Guy Pearce has been forced to take a step back from social media after sharing false and misleading information about Israel online.

The actor took to X to announce his temporary hiatus, citing the need to prevent further hurt or damage to others in light of a recent backlash for previously shared content. In an earlier apology to Jewish News, he admitted that some of the articles and statements he had re-shared contained misinformation and falsehoods.

Pearce's mistake included sharing material from far-right commentator Nick Fuentes, as well as claims that Israel was involved in 9/11 terrorist attacks and that prominent Las Vegas casino owners were Jewish.

The actor expressed regret for any confusion or distress caused by his actions, stating he would strive to be more diligent in the future to verify information before sharing it online.

In a statement posted on X early Saturday morning, Pearce wrote: "Earlier this week, I issued an apology for sharing misleading and inaccurate posts and commentary on social media... To prevent any further hurt, confusion or damage to others, I will be stepping back from social media for the time being."

The decision comes as a result of backlash against his online support for Palestine.

idk why people are making such a big deal about this dude sharing some old tweets he didn't even write himself lol 🤣 like what's wrong with agreeing to support israel just 'cause you think it's the right side in all this palestine drama? anyway, gotta give props to pearce for owning up to his mistakes and taking responsibility for verifying info before sharing online 👍 maybe people should focus on educating themselves instead of calling out others for having differing opinions 🤔

I gotta say, this is a major misstep by Guy Pearce 🤦‍♂️. Like, seriously, he was sharing some pretty messed up stuff online and now he's having to take a break from social media? I get it, he apologized and all, but still... shouldn't we be fact-checking before we share that kind of info online? Like, did he not see the red flags on Nick Fuentes' commentary? 🤔 And 9/11 being involved in terrorist attacks is just straight up misinformation. Like, come on Guy, get your facts straight next time 😂.

And I gotta wonder, was his pro-Palestine stance a bit of a smoke screen for this whole debacle? Maybe he wanted to stir up some controversy to boost his online presence? I don't know, but either way, it's not cool that people were hurt by his actions. So yeah, taking a break from social media is a good idea... maybe he should take some time to educate himself on what he shares too 📚

omg what's going on with these celebrities and their facts 🤦‍♂️ like how can you just share random stuff without checking it first?! Guy Pearce is lucky he only got called out for misinformation and not full on canceled 😂. Can't imagine how hard it must be to deal with that kind of backlash online. anyway, glad he's taking responsibility for his actions and gonna fact-check more before sharing 🤓 also think it's a bit weird that people are still surprised by this kinda thing... shouldn't we all just double check the info first? 🤔

I'm not surprised to see Guy Pearce get called out like this 🤦‍♂️. I mean, we've all been there where we share something without really thinking it through and then realize later that it was wrong. But what's concerning here is the backlash he faced because of his support for Palestine. It's a sensitive topic, but let's not forget that people have different opinions and perspectives.

I do think it's good that he's taking responsibility for his actions and acknowledging where he went wrong. Stepping back from social media might be a bit harsh, though - can't we just have a respectful discussion without completely disconnecting? Anyway, I hope he takes this as an opportunity to educate himself better before sharing info online again 💡.

😒 just when you think some people can't get it right... i mean, come on guy Pearce thought he could share that crazy stuff and not have anyone call him out on it? 🤦‍♂️ but kudos to him for owning up to the mistake and saying sorry 🙏. at least he's acknowledging that his info wasn't accurate and is gonna try harder next time... fingers crossed 🤞

🙄 come on guy, you gotta fact-check before sharing info online, like, basic netiquette. all those conspiracy theories about 9/11 and Jewish casino owners? red flags 🚨. it's not like he was just having a funny convo, people got hurt because of his shares. don't even get me started on the Palestine thing... yeah, I get that you might be passionate about the cause, but social media isn't the place for activism or airing your personal opinions, especially when they're gonna be misinterpreted by others. kudos to him for owning up and taking a step back tho 🤝

🤔 so like i think its super important that people with big platforms like guys in the entertainment industry take responsibility for what they post online... he shared some pretty egregious stuff about israel and palestine, and it wasnt even accurate 🚫 thats not okay, especially when its from someone who has been accused of being pro-israel.

but at the same time, i can understand why he might feel like he needs to take a step back - social media can be super toxic, and people are quick to call out anyone who says something they dont agree with... but yeah, if hes gonna share stuff online, he should at least try to fact-check it first 🤓.

its also interesting that he wasnt just sharing his own opinions, but actual content from someone else (nick fuentes) who is basically a far-right conspiracy theorist 🚫. thats not okay, and it shows that he didnt do his due diligence before sharing that stuff online. so yeah, i think taking a step back might be the best move for him right now 🙏

Ugh, just saw that Guy Pearce had to step away from social media after sharing some super dodgy info about Israel 🤦‍♂️. I'm not surprised, tbh - we've all been there with our online rants and misinformation. But still, gotta give him props for owning up to it now and saying he's gonna double-check his facts before spouting off in the future 💡. It's crazy how fast social media can go from being a great way to share your thoughts to a hot mess when you're not careful 🤯. Anyway, hope Pearce takes some time to reflect on what happened and comes back with a clearer head...

ugh, this is so unfortunate 🤕 - guy pearce has been in the spotlight before for his questionable views on politics and it's surprising he didn't fact-check those shared articles from nick fuentes... it's all about accountability now 📣 and making sure we don't spread misinformation online. can't wait to see him re-emerge with more verified info 💯

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, dude 🤯. Guy Pearce is like, one of those actors who's always been okay in my books, but now I'm not so sure 😐. I mean, who shares conspiracy theories about 9/11 and thinks they're legit? It's just crazy talk, man!

And what really gets me is that he was supporting Palestine online, which is like, totally cool, right? But then he goes and shares all this misinformation... it's just not cool at all, you know? 🤦‍♂️

I think the fact that he's taking a step back from social media is a good thing, though. I mean, we don't need more people spreading false info online. It's time for him to take a closer look at what he shares and make sure it's accurate before posting it 📊.

This whole situation just makes me think about how important it is to fact-check everything, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like politics and social issues. We can't let people spread misinformation online, or else we'll all end up in a big mess 🤯.

Omg, I'm like totally surprised by this 🤯. Guy Pearce is such an iconic actor and I love him in all the movies... but sharing that kind of stuff online? No way, dude! 😱 It's super careless and hurtful to so many people, especially those from the Jewish community who have already been through some heavy stuff.

I'm glad he owned up to it and apologized, though 💯. That takes a lot of courage, and I hope he takes this time to educate himself on how to be more mindful about what he shares online 🤓. We all make mistakes, but this one was huge, and I think it's awesome that he's taking responsibility for it.

It's also super important that we call out when someone is sharing misinformation, even if they're a public figure 🗣️. We need to keep each other safe and informed online! 💖
