Giorgia Meloni's face on a church mural is offensive – but not for the reason the Vatican thinks | Jonathan Jones

Ugh, I'm just so done with people getting all worked up over art 🤦‍♂️. Like, Bruno Valentinetti's portrait of Giorgia Meloni was probably meant to be a joke or something, but now it's like the Vatican is trying to censor her face from the church mural and everyone's losing their minds 😩. And honestly, I think the artist's intention was just to poke fun at how politics and faith can get all mixed up, which isn't that deep 🤔.

I mean, have you seen some of those old Italian Renaissance artworks? They're like, totally loaded with portraits of wealthy patrons and powerful figures, and nobody bats an eye 😏. Michelangelo's Last Judgment is a prime example - he basically gave the face of this papal official to the figure of Minos, and it was just another day at the office for him 🎨.

So yeah, let's not get too worked up about Meloni's portrait being in the church mural. It's art, folks! Sometimes it's gonna be ugly or provocative, but that's what makes it interesting, right? And if the Vatican is trying to separate the sacred and profane, that just means we need more nuance in our lives 🤷‍♂️.

idk why ppl are making such a big deal about this Giorgia Meloni portrait thingy lol like its just art y'know? some ppl are saying its like she's being demonised or whatever but honestly its just a mural on a church wall 🤷‍♂️ i mean, artist says he was pressured by the vatican to remove it and now everyone's all bent out of shape 🙄 what's next? gonna take down all the paintings of italian monarchs from 100 yrs ago? 🤦‍♂️

OMG, I'm so done with this whole situation 🙄! I mean, who's to say that Giorgia Meloni's face doesn't deserve to be on a church mural? It's like, art is supposed to be subjective, right? 🤷‍♀️ And let's not forget about the history of art - those Renaissance artworks you mentioned were basically like memes back in the day 📸! Michelangelo was totally low-key trolling his bosses with that Last Judgment thing. Anyway, it seems like Bruno Valentinetti was just trying to stir up some drama, and now everyone's all worked up over nothing 😅. I think the Vatican should chill out and let people have their opinions on art without trying to shut them down #FreeSpeech #ArtIsSubjective #NotMyChurch
