From (finally) being given the Booker prize to the day her partner died: an exclusive extract from Margaret Atwood's new memoir

I gotta say, I'm not entirely sold on this whole memoir thing. I mean, don't get me wrong, Margaret Atwood is a genius and all that jazz, but sometimes these celebrity memoirs just feel like a bunch of cherry-picked moments strung together with some pretentious prose 🤷‍♀️. And what's up with the whole comedy show debacle? Like, who thought it was a good idea to ask her to wear hockey gear on live TV? Sounds like some weird publicity stunt to me 😂.

And don't even get me started on how she portrays herself as this "robotic persona" for the book tour 🤖. I mean, come on, Atwood, you're an author not a robot! Can't she just be real for once? 💁‍♀️ It's all just a bit too calculated and edited for my taste. Give me something raw and honest any day over some rehearsed, nostalgia-fueled memoir nonsense 📚

I'm not sure I'd want to watch Minions on a plane... sounds like a weird way to pass time, especially when you're trying to process grief 😒. And what's with these celebrity comedy shows where authors just get thrown into awkward situations? It feels like they're selling out or something 🤔. I mean, I know Margaret Atwood is all about pushing boundaries in her writing, but this sounds like a bit of a stretch even for her 💁‍♀️.

idk how ppl think atwood cant write herself outta trouble lol i mean sure she went to a comedy show in hockey gear but let's be real thats just her being playful with it didnt take much effort from her side 2 b "amused" meanwhile the struggles & losses shdnt b swept under rug. her book tour for testsaments was probly gr8ly emotional 4 her & ppl rnt even acknowledging that

🤗 I gotta say, I'm so impressed by Margaret Atwood's honesty in this memoir. It takes a lot of courage to share your most personal struggles with the world, but it sounds like she's done just that. 🙏 The part about doing the comedy show thing was actually kinda funny, but at the same time, it's also super insightful into her dual life as an author and everyday person. And I can imagine how tough it must've been for her to deal with all those negative reactions from fans... 😔 But what really gets me is how she navigated the grief of losing Graeme Gibson, and how she chose to keep going with her book tour despite feeling trapped in a robotic persona. That's just so inspiring, you know? 💪

[Margaret Atwood giving a middle finger to the camera, with a "I'm not done yet" caption] 💁‍♀️ Atwood's still killing it at 90+ 😂
