I'm not surprised that Macron stepped in to help Sansal out - it's about time someone did, considering how strained relations between France and Algeria have been lately . It's interesting that Algeria chose to release him by sending him to Germany for medical treatment though - it feels like they're trying to ease tensions without appearing too weak . I'm curious to see what this means for Franco-Algerian relations in the long run, and how it'll affect the debate on colonialism . The fact that Steinmeier was able to negotiate Sansal's release is also a big win for Germany, but let's not forget that there are still many complex issues at play here .
just heard about boualem sansal bein released from prison gotta say i'm lovin' this move by president tebboune it shows he's got some sense of humanity, especially given sanasal's prostate cancer and all that but at the same time its not like this comes outta nowhere, france & macron been makin a mess with their moral ambiguity over morocco & western sahara
I'm not surprised, we've all learned that sometimes being a good sport means taking a step back and letting others off the hook. It looks like Germany and Steinmeier stepped up as peacemakers here, showing that even in tense diplomatic situations, there's always room for empathy and compassion. Let this be a lesson to us all: just because we want something (or someone) doesn't mean it's right or fair. Sometimes, doing the hard thing โ like releasing Sansal โ is actually the best way forward
idk why france is always trying to cover up its dirty colonial past but seriously, macron needs to chill his head and stop backing morocco on western sahara. if he really cares about french-algerian relations, he should've supported sansal's freedom instead of making things worse with morocco it's like, algeria is already mad at him, now germany comes in and saves the day with some cool diplomatic moves but still, france needs to own up to its mistakes and apologize for hurting algerian feelings
