Freedom from China? The mine at the centre of Europe's push for rare earth metals

I'm thinking its not a good idea for Europe to rely too heavily on China for anything 🤔. China seems to have it all under control right now, but what if they change their minds or something happens to disrupt their supply chain? We should be diversifying our resources and having more options 🌎.

It's also weird that Western companies just give up on producing rare earths in the first place... like, we're not even using it for everything anymore 😐. But at least LKAB is trying to step up and make a change by developing their own processing capabilities 💪. Maybe this will be the start of something new?

Europe's dependence on China for rare earths is a major concern 🤔. The fact that they're sourcing over 17,000 tonnes of magnets per year from China is already a problem 📉. I think LKAB's efforts to develop their own processing capabilities are a great step forward 💡. It makes sense that they'd want to reduce the risk of supply chain disruptions and take control of a crucial material.

It's also interesting to see how companies like General Motors were initially responsible for developing permanent magnets, but then stopped producing them due to environmental concerns 🚮. This highlights the importance of considering the environmental impact when sourcing materials.

I'm curious to see if LKAB can actually achieve their goal and become a major player in the EU's rare earth supply chain 💪. It'll be interesting to watch how this develops over time 🔍.
