Everton sack Brian Sørensen with club languishing near bottom of WSL table

Everton Women Suffer Another Blow as Sørensen Leaves

The Merseyside club has parted ways with Danish manager Brian Sørensen, citing a need for change in direction to avoid relegation from the Women's Super League. Despite securing their first home victory of the season last weekend, which moved them four points clear of the drop zone, Everton's board felt it was time to shake things up.

The decision comes after six consecutive home league defeats, with fans expressing frustration at the team's struggles at Goodison Park, their permanent home ground. Sørensen's tenure had been marked by relative stability, having inherited a team that finished 10th the previous season. However, the club's performance this term has fallen short of expectations.

Sørensen, who joined Everton in 2022 after leading Fortuna Hjørring to Women's Champions League qualification, was praised for his efforts but ultimately deemed it was time for a change. The club's chief executive, Angus Kinnear, acknowledged that Sunday's win was important but recognized the need for a fresh approach.

The coaching staff has undergone significant changes, with assistant coaches Stephen Neligan and Ashley Tootle departing alongside Sørensen. Everton's Under-18s coach Scott Phelan will take over as interim manager until the end of the season, assisted by Jennifer Foster and Ian McCaldon.

Phelan, a former England youth international and Everton academy product, brings a wealth of experience to the role. His first game in charge is set for this weekend against London City Lionesses, with the visit from West Ham United next week posing a significant test of his mettle. The club's season has been marred by inconsistency, but Phelan will be hoping to turn things around and steer Everton away from the drop zone.

I'm totally on board with this change lol 👍. I mean, six consecutive home league defeats is a disaster! The old guard needs to be chopped down tree ASAP 🌳. Angus Kinnear is right, that win last weekend was just a flash in the pan, let's not get too cocky 😎. Sørensen might've been stable but Everton deserved more, it's time for some excitement and innovation! 🤩 Phelan stepping up as interim manager is gonna be lit 🔥, and I love how they're bringing in fresh blood like Jennifer Foster and Ian McCaldon, these new coaches are gonna shake things up and get the team firing on all cylinders 💪. Bring on the rest of the season and let's see if Everton can finally deliver some consistent results 🤞!

🤔 I think this decision to part ways with Sørensen is an interesting move, given that the team was performing relatively well just a few weeks ago 🏆. It's almost as if the board has thrown in the towel, opting for a change of direction over investing more time and resources into the current setup 💸. I'm curious to see how Scott Phelan will navigate this situation, considering his background in youth football and experience with the club 📈. The fact that they've brought in some fresh faces, like Jennifer Foster and Ian McCaldon, might just be what they need to inject some much-needed energy into their performances ⚡️. Now, let's see how Phelan will manage the team's inconsistent performance and whether this change will be enough to steer them away from relegation 🔮

omg lol 😂 what's goin on w/ Everton?! i mean, i knew they were strugglin but six consecutive home league defeats?? thass crazy 🤯! i'm sooo sad 2 c them goin out w/ Sørensen cuz he was like, their savior 🙌! i remember when he joined in 2022 and how much hype there was around him 💥! now they're changin up the coachin staff... fingers crossed dat Scott Phelan can turn it around 🤞🏻 this weekend's game against London City Lionesses is gonna be a test for him, but i got faith in him 😊! let's get that 3 points and move forward 💪!

oh noooo 🤕 the everton women are having a tough time right now... i feel bad for the fans who've been supporting them all season long 🙏

anywayz, i think scott phelan is gonna be a great interim manager 🎉 he's got a lot of experience and has worked with some top-notch teams in the past 📈

here's a little diagram to show how phelan can help everton turn things around 📊

omg did u know that avocados arent actually native 2 america 🤔 they originated in central america & mexico lol i was at this cafe the other day n they were serving guac w/ these weird little tortilla chips... like, can we talk about how weird it is 2 put avocado on a chip when u cant even eat the chip bc its so tiny? anywayz back 2 soccer 🏀

🤔 i mean, can u believe it? evilton women just changed managers for like 2 secs after gettin a win 🏆 and now they're stuck in relegation battle again 🤦‍♀️. i feel bad for sorenson tho, he did pretty alright for the team. but hey, maybe phelan's gonna be the magic one 💫 to turn it around. only time'll tell 👀

I'm kinda surprised they let Sørensen go already 🤔... I mean, 6 home losses in a row is bad enough, but he did get them that win last weekend which was a nice boost! 🙌 Still gotta be worried about relegation now though... Phelan's gonna have to pull some magic tricks outta thin air if they wanna turn it around 💫

I'm not surprised that Sørensen left. 3 home league defeats in a row is a pretty big slump for any team 🤯. I think it's easy to blame the manager, but sometimes teams just go through phases of form, you know? The thing that's interesting here is that Everton's board is recognizing they need to make some changes, which is a good sign. Bringing in Phelan as interim manager could be a good move - he has experience and knows the team from when he was at the academy 🏟️. Now we'll just have to see if he can turn things around and get Everton out of this relegation battle 😬

🤔 so i think its pretty clear why everton made this move, right? they're in a tough spot with relegation looming and the team just isn't performing well at all 📉 their fans are getting frustrated and its easy to see why they'd want to make a change. but you've got to wonder if sorenson was given enough time to turn things around 🕰️ six consecutive home defeats is not what you want to see, especially when you're already playing catch-up in the league table.

anyway, phelan seems like a decent replacement 🤞 he's got some experience under his belt and has been through the academy system himself, so that's gotta count for something. we'll just have to wait and see if he can bring some stability to the team 💡 might not be easy but i'm willing to give him a chance 👍

just read that everton womens team is in a mess lol 😂 they got rid of their manager after only 3 yrs 🤦‍♀️ i mean, u would think that'd be enough time to turn it around but nope 👎 they gotta bring in fresh blood now, like that new guy Scott Phelan, lets see if he can get them outta the relegation zone 🚨💪

man i feel for everton women right now 🤕 they've had it tough this season and it's not just about the results it's about the confidence and morale of the team too... they deserve a break and some new ideas i hope scott phelan can turn things around, he sounds like a top bloke 👍

😬💔 Everton Women are having a tough time on the pitch 🏀👎! Losing Brian Sørensen as manager is not the best news 💔😢. I mean, they won that one game at home last weekend 🙌 but it's just not enough 😐. The team needs a new direction ⚡️ and Phelan seems like a good choice 👍. He has experience and knows the club 🏠. Fingers crossed he can turn things around 🔮💪 and get them out of that relegation spot 🔴⬆️!

ugh i feel bad for sørensen he just got there and was doing alright what does 6 consecutive home league defeats mean anyway? like cant they just win a game or something? 🤷‍♀️ new manager scott phelan sounds cool though been around and all but its hard to turn it around when the team is as inconsistent as evanston's lately

Ugh, I'm so frustrated for the girls at Everton 🤦‍♀️! They were doing okay last year but this season just isn't clicking. I think a change is needed, but it's hard not to feel like they're just throwing in the towel 😩. I mean, six home defeats in a row? That's gotta be tough for the fans and the players. Hopefully Scott Phelan can bring some stability and get them back on track ⚽️. The Under-18s coach has experience, so fingers crossed he can whip up some consistency 💪. But man, I just want to see them have a good run without having to worry about relegation 😬

aww man, this is gonna be tough for everton women fans 🤕... they've had some ups and downs already this season and now sørensen's gone? 😞 i feel bad for brian, he was trying his best but it sounds like the club felt a change was needed. but on the other hand, scott phelan is a great coach! 🙌 he's got lots of experience under his belt and he'll definitely give it his all to turn everton around 💪... gotta be excited for their next game against london city lionesses tho! 🏆

I'm so bummed about Sørensen leaving 🤕... I mean, he seemed like a solid manager and I loved how the team played when he was in charge 💪! But at the same time, four home wins doesn't lie, you know? 😅 The fact that they're giving him the boot after Sunday's win is pretty telling. It feels like Everton is trying to shake off some bad vibes or something... 🤔 Angus Kinnear seems pretty chill about it, which I guess is good since he's not going to say anything negative about Sørensen 🙏. The coaching staff changes are gonna be super interesting to watch, though - Scott Phelan is a legend with the Under-18s and all, so fingers crossed for him 👍!

man... what a shame 😔 Everton Women's team is really struggling right now. I mean, they just got that one win at home which was awesome 🎉 but it's not enough if you're gonna get the big players out 💁‍♀️. Brian Sørensen did a good job, i guess... leading them to qualification for the Champions League is no joke 🤯 but this season has been a total bummer 🤕. I'm rooting for Scott Phelan now, he seems like a cool guy who knows what he's doing 👍. Maybe with some fresh blood and a new approach they can turn things around and get out of that relegation zone 🚫💪
