Euro 2028: Co-hosts England may play two games away from Wembley

Co-hosts England may have to play two group games away from Wembley at Euro 2028. According to a BBC Sport source, the Three Lions will host one of their three group matches at one of five other English stadiums - Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Villa Park, Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, and St James' Park in Newcastle.

The decision comes after a review of stadium capacity and safety concerns. The source stated that the number of recently developed and expanded stadiums in England had been a major factor in the decision to take the national team away from their traditional home.

England is one of four co-hosts for Euro 2028, along with Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland. The full schedule for the tournament will be announced on November 12th at an official launch event in London.

It's worth noting that England played all their matches at Wembley at Euro 1996 as they reached the semi-finals of their own tournament. They also hosted games at Euro 2020, which was split across several countries, and played all their games at Wembley apart from the quarter-final victory over Ukraine in Rome.

Uefa has confirmed that England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland will have to qualify for Euro 2028, with two places reserved at the finals if any host nation fails to qualify.

Ugh, can you believe it? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ England is losing its home turf at Wembley?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I mean, I get it, stadium safety and capacity concerns are legit issues, but it's still sad. Those iconic matches will be played somewhere else now. And what about the fans? They've grown up with Wembley being the hub for England games. It'll be a change, that's for sure. ๐Ÿค”

I'm so done with Wembley already! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a sick venue and all, but have you seen those other stadiums on that list? Etihad Stadium has insane views of the city and Villa Park is like, right in the heart of Birmingham. And St James' Park in Newcastle? It's got history, fam! I think it's high time England mixed things up a bit. Two group games away from Wembley will actually be kinda cool, you know? Less pressure on the lads to perform and all that jazz ๐Ÿ˜Ž

It's crazy to think that England might not be able to play all their group stage games at Wembley ๐Ÿคฏ. I get it about stadium capacity and safety concerns tho. With all those new stadiums popping up, it's gotta make sense for them to mix things up a bit. Etihad Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are sick venues btw! ๐ŸŸ๏ธ They'll still have an awesome experience at the tournament, even if they're not playing at Wembley every game. And it's cool that England will be co-hosting with Scotland, Wales, and Ireland - it should be a great vibe for fans ๐Ÿ‘ซ

I'm so done with Wembley being our national team's stadium ๐Ÿคฏ It was cute in 96 but now it's like we're trying too hard to be cool again ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ Everyone and their grandma knows that stadiums have more space than Wembley, it's just a matter of common sense ๐Ÿ™„ The fact that they might have to play two group games away from there shows that Uefa is actually taking some good decisions for once ๐Ÿค Not saying we won't still rock the place when we do get to play there, but maybe it's time to branch out and give those other stadiums a chance ๐Ÿ”ฅ It's also cool that they're reserving spots for host nations that don't qualify, like the Republic of Ireland - let's hope they get to shine in 28 ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

just saw dis news about england playing euro 2028 games @ different stadiums ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฌ wembley is like their old home, dont wanna give it up tho ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’ช but safety & capacity concerns r real probs ๐Ÿ‘ stadiums got expanded & new ones popped up all over england. gotta be fair to the rest of the countries hosting too ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ‘ฅ its not like they're losin out on wembley forever tho, still gonna get some games there ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm low-key super annoyed about this ๐Ÿ˜’... I mean, I get it, safety first and all that but come on Wembley is the heart of England's footballing identity! ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ It's been their home turf for so long and now they're having to share it? ๐Ÿคฏ I'm not saying any other stadium can't host a match, but it feels like they're taking away a part of England's history and pride. ๐Ÿ’” At least they'll get to play at some cool new stadiums though, Etihad Stadium does look ๐Ÿ”ฅ awesome!

idk why they wanna play all those games away from wembley lol like whats wrong with our stadium ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. im actually kinda hyped about it tho we get to support other teams in new stadiums for once and not just stuck at wembley all the time ๐Ÿ‘. plus its good to mix things up so europe doesnt feel too repetitive on us ๐Ÿ‘Œ

omg I cant even believe its gonna be so hard on england's fans to play matches away from wembley ๐Ÿคฏ #Euro2028 #ThreeLions #WembleySuffering

i feel like its time for them to modernize their stadium situation tho - those new stadiums r lookin so fire and it makes total sense that they wanna make sure every match is safe and secure ๐Ÿ’ช #StadiumSafetyMatters #EnglandFootball

anyway, i hope they can still rock the host games at wembley ๐ŸŽ‰ and bring home that trophy ๐Ÿ† #WembleyForever

omg can u believe england might not get to play all their group games at wembley? ๐Ÿค” i mean, it's been like that since euro 96 and now they have to move away from their home stadium due to capacity and safety concerns ๐Ÿšจ it's kinda sad though, wembley is such an iconic venue for english football... maybe the new stadiums will be cool tho? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ does anyone think we should get to see more games at other stadiums in england besides wembley or is that just part of the charm? ๐Ÿ˜

omg I'm a bit worried about Englands situation ๐Ÿค• they're gonna play some matches away from wembley which is like their home turf ๐Ÿ  i get it tho, stadium capacity and safety concerns are super important ๐Ÿ™ but still, its like they're not giving the team a proper chance to shine on their own pitch ๐ŸŒŸ fingers crossed though that they can pull off some amazing performances at those other stadiums ๐Ÿคž and let's be real, wembley is already an iconic stadium ๐Ÿ† it'll always hold a special place in Englands heart โค๏ธ

omg i cant even believe its going to be euro 2028 ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ† anyway im not mad about it tho coz we get to see them play at diff stadiums yeah thats cool esp st james park is gonna host a match in newcastle lol ๐Ÿ‘ its prob better to mix it up anyway ๐Ÿค”

omg can u believe its like we might not get to play all our matches at wembley anymore ๐Ÿคฏ? i mean i know stadium safety and capacity is super important but it feels like they're taking away a part of our national identity or something ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง anyway im all for change but hopefully its not gonna affect the energy at wembley when we do play there... or else were gonna have to take the team on tour lol ๐Ÿš‚๐ŸŸ๏ธ

omg can you believe england might not get to play all their euro 2028 games at wembley ? ๐Ÿคฏ i mean its a major stadium and all but like hasnt it always been a bit of an issue with capacity and safety concerns? remember the fire back in 2019 and stuff? anyway id be gutted if we had to play some away games but i guess its better that uefa is being proactive about making sure things are safe for the players and fans. but still wembley will always be home ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’š

can u believe they're gonna play games away from wembley? i mean, it's not like it's a big deal or anything, but still... ๐Ÿค” those stadium capacities and safety concerns are prob a real thing, though. like, have u seen the Etihad Stadium? it's massive! i wonder which one they'll choose to host england's matches at tho? maybe tottenham hotspur stadium will get some love โค๏ธ anyway, europa 2028 is gonna be lit... but qualification probs won't be easy for all those countries ๐Ÿ†

Man this is deep, you know? Like, we're living in a world where even our national teams can't stay at home forever. I mean, Wembley's been England's castle for so long, but now it's like, what's the point of having a home stadium if you're gonna have to play games elsewhere just because of capacity and safety concerns? ๐Ÿค”

It's like we're trying to control everything, even our own team. Do we really need that many stadiums, anyway? Can't we just chill and play at Wembley like normal? But no, we gotta keep evolving, keeping up with the times... or in this case, the stadiums. ๐ŸŒ†

And what's the point of having a host nation if it's just gonna be a logistical nightmare? Like, I get it, safety and capacity are important, but can't we find ways to make Wembley work without sacrificing the team's experience? It's like Uefa's trying to spread the love, or something... ๐Ÿค

i mean come on! if they're gonna make us play games away from wembley just because of stadium capacity and safety concerns, can't we just make some adjustments?! like, build a bigger wembley or something ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ idk how many times england has hosted euro stuff at wembley now... it's starting to feel like they're trying to isolate us from the rest of europe ๐ŸŒŽ and i'm all for safety first and all, but two group games away? that's just gonna be a hassle ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I donโ€™t usually comment but... the thought of not playing all matches at Wembley is kinda weird ๐Ÿค”. I mean, it's like a national team thing where you want to feel like home, you know? But I guess safety and capacity issues are important too ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. It's good that they're looking out for everyone's well-being.

I don't really mind playing at other stadiums as much as the players do ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, it's all just football in the end ๐Ÿ’ช. What bothers me is when we can't even figure out how to make our own stadiums bigger and better without affecting other events ๐Ÿ˜’. Like, what happened to Villa Park and Everton's stadium? They could've been used for Euro matches too ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll all work out in the end ๐Ÿ’•. Uefa knows what they're doing, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm not too fussed about England having to play some group games away from Wembley ๐Ÿค—. I mean, think of it as a chance to see our national team at some other awesome stadiums! Etihad Stadium is going to be lit ๐Ÿ’ฅ, and Tottenham's new stadium is insane ๐Ÿคฏ. And who knows, maybe we'll discover some hidden gems like Villa Park or Everton's new stadium ๐Ÿฐ. It's all about giving the fans a chance to experience their team in different settings, right? ๐Ÿ˜Š Plus, it's not like Wembley is the only place that can host an international match, you know? We've got some amazing stadiums across the country, and this just shows we're thinking outside the box (or stadium, haha). Bring on Euro 2028! ๐ŸŽ‰
