Man I'm so frustrated
about what's going on in East Timor right now. The fact that Berta dos Santos and others like her are still dealing with trauma 24 years after the occupation is just unacceptable
. And it's not just them, but their families who have been through hell too.
It's crazy how some people can even be hailed as heroes for committing human rights abuses
. And Indonesia's government prioritizing a good relationship over accountability is like, what's the point of even trying to learn from the past?
I think Major-General Americo Ximenes has it right, though
. Those who have fought in the jungle and know the struggles of the people should be the ones leading the charge for justice. Not some politicians who are just concerned with maintaining a good image.
We need to keep pushing for this, you feel me?
The lack of accountability is still a major issue today, and it's not going to change on its own. We need to keep bringing attention to it and demanding that those responsible be held accountable.
