Twitter's traditional bird icon has been replaced with an image of a Shiba Inu, a nod to the joke cryptocurrency Dogecoin, in a move that appears to be a direct response from CEO Elon Musk.
In a tweet on Monday afternoon, Musk referenced a year-old conversation where another user suggested that he "just buy Twitter" and change the bird logo to a doge. This move comes just two days after Musk requested a judge throw out a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing him of running a pyramid scheme to support Dogecoin.
Lawyers for Musk and Tesla have characterized the lawsuit as a "fanciful work of fiction" over Musk's "innocuous and often silly tweets." However, it remains unclear whether the Shiba Inu logo change will be permanent, given Musk's history of using Twitter to troll both fans and critics.
The price of Dogecoin surged by over 20% in the past 24 hours, trading at around 9 cents per coin. The cryptocurrency was originally created as a joke on December 6, 2013, by two software engineers, who drew inspiration from the "doge" meme popular in the early 2010s.
