I mean, who doesn't love a good theme park of despair? Emin's show is like the queue for the 'Mental Health Coaster' - all twists and turns of existential dread. But seriously, it's cool to see so many visionary artists tackled in one exhibition. Like, I'm not saying I've got personal experience with melancholy or anything...
But what really gets me is how these artists, like Bourgeois and Munch, were basically the original emo kids. They're like, "I'm a tortured soul, woe is me!" Meanwhile, Emin's just being all introspective and stuff, inviting us to reflect on our own emotional landscapes... sounds like a typical Tuesday to me
Exhibitions in London this week are giving me some serious FOMO though. Ming Wong's response to those homoerotic Saint Sebastian paintings? Mind blown! And St John's College Oxford's "Story Painters, Picture Writers"? That sounds like my idea of a dream date - art, words, and mystery all mixed together... just don't invite anyone I know
