Comedian Jeff Dye joins Hollywood exodus, says Newsom ‘scares the s–t out of me’

Comedian Jeff Dye has been one of the latest entertainers to flee Los Angeles in an exodus of celebrities fleeing California's liberal policies, citing a specific catalyst: Governor Gavin Newsom's handling of wildfires that ravaged parts of LA earlier this year.

The 42-year-old comedian revealed his decision to buy a house in Texas during a recent appearance on "The Joe Rogan Experience," stating that Newsom's leadership has left him "scares the s**t out of me." Dye expressed concern over the state and city governments' response to the devastating fires, describing it as "not competent."

Los Angeles experienced two major wildfires this January, with the Palisades Fire burning 6,837 buildings and killing 12 people, while the Eaton Fire decimated 9,414 buildings and claimed 18 lives. The blazes left at least 29 deaths and over 55,000 acres scorched.

Critics of Newsom's administration have pointed to issues with water supply problems and firefighting resources being stretched or compromised during the fires. Many residents and local officials have expressed frustration over the slow recovery, citing bureaucratic challenges, significant delays with permitting, insurance disputes, and infrastructure concerns.

Dye also criticized celebrities who had declared they would leave the United States if President Donald Trump was elected for a second term, saying some people do move but others don't back up their threats. When asked about O'Donnell and DeGeneres' moves to Ireland and England, respectively, Dye said it's "dumb that they left because now they just can't vote."

The comedian's departure is part of a growing trend of celebrities abandoning Los Angeles in favor of more conservative states like Texas.

I think its pretty wild how people are using wildfires as an excuse to leave the state 🤯, especially when you consider that LA is already doing some crazy stuff with water and resources. Like, sure, Newsom's handling was a mess, but let's not forget that there's also a whole lot of climate change at play here ☀️. I mean, what's gonna happen to all the people who actually lived through those fires? Are they just gonna be forgotten because some rich guy like Dye decides he doesn't wanna live in California anymore 🤷‍♂️? And honestly, I'm kinda glad that more people are speaking out about these issues, even if it is through a medium as frivolous as comedy 💬.

I gotta say, I'm not buying into all this celebrity exodus drama 🤑🙄. If these rich folks are so concerned about the state of California, why don't they just use their influence to make some real change? It's just a bunch of them running away from the problems and leaving everyone else to deal with it 💔.

And let's be real, they're not exactly hurting for cash 🤑. They can afford to buy their own houses in Texas (or wherever) and live their best lives, while still keeping an eye on their investments back home 👀. It's like they think the rest of us will just magically fix everything for them 🤦‍♂️.

I mean, what really gets my goat is when they make it sound like they're some kind of heroes by fleeing California 🙄. Like, boo hoo, I'm a celebrity and I'm too scared to deal with the consequences of climate change and politics 🤷‍♀️. Where's their outrage about the real issues?

🤔 I mean, I get why people are leaving LA... wildfires can be super devastating and the response from gov'ts can be super slow. But at the same time, like, I don't think we should be surprised that celebrities are fleeing if they're really that scared of gov'ns handling things 🙄. And honestly, some of these guys are just rich and have the means to move wherever they want... it's not always about making a big statement or something 💸. And btw, can we talk about how many ppl moved out after Trump was elected in 2020? Like, didn't that scare 'em off then too? 🤷‍♂️

OMG, I think Jeff Dye is totally overreacting 🙄. Like, Governor Newsom did do his thing with the wildfires, but to say he's "not competent" is kinda harsh 😒. I get why people would be upset, but come on, 12 deaths and 55k acres scorched? That's a lot of damage 💔. And as for him leaving LA 'cause of the governor, it's just funny that some celebs were all like "I'm leaving if Trump wins" and then when he doesn't, they're still outta there 🤷‍♂️. Some people do move, others don't back up their threats, you feel? 🤔. And can we talk about how ridiculous it is that they left just 'cause of politics? Like, what's next? Leaving because the weather isn't sunny enough ☀️?

I think this whole thing is super rich 🤑... I mean, these celebs are fleeing California because they're scared, but it's kinda hypocritical, don't you think? They're all about free speech and voting rights, but now that it might get them into trouble, they're bailing on LA. It's like they're saying, "Hey, I care about the environment, social justice... except when my own safety is at stake." 🤷‍♂️

And let's be real, if you can afford to buy a house in Texas, that's not exactly a democratic victory for anyone else 💸. It's just another example of how the wealthy and powerful are making decisions for themselves while the rest of us are stuck in the mess they helped create 🤦‍♂️.

meh, yeah, i mean, cant say im surprised 🤷‍♂️. celebrities always talk about leaving the country or state if they dont get their way, but at the end of the day, they just wanna buy a house and be able to afford it 💸. newsom's handling of those wildfires was pretty bad, no doubt about it 🚒. i mean, 55k acres scorched? that's crazy 😱. and its not like texas is all sunshine and rainbows either... they got their own problems 🤦‍♂️. id rather see them focus on solving the issues in cali instead of running away from them 🙄.

🤯 I cant even right now... poor Jeff Dye must've seen the devastation firsthand and honestly, I get it - how could you not flee? The way Newsom handled those wildfires was absolutely appalling! 😱 All that suffering, 29 deaths, thousands of homes destroyed... and what did we get in return? Nothing but empty promises. And don't even get me started on the bureaucratic mess that's still crippling the city's recovery efforts. 🙄 It's just common sense to evacuate when faced with such disaster. I feel for all the celebrities who are fleeing, including Jeff Dye... Texas seems like a safer haven right about now 😒

OMG 💖, I feel so bad for Jeff Dye 🤕! Wildfires are literally the worst thing ever 😩, and to have that much damage and loss of life... it's just heartbreaking ❤️. And yeah, Gov Gavin Newsom does need to do better with emergency response and planning 🤝. But let's not forget, LA has its own set of problems too 🌴... traffic, pollution, gentrification... the list goes on 🙄. Can't we all just get along? 😊

So Jeff Dye thinks Gavin Newsom's handling of wildfires is scaring the s**t outta him? I guess that's one way to get a house in Texas - be terrified by the governor! 🤣 I'm not surprised he'd flee, though - who wouldn't want to leave when the fire department is all like "not competent"? 😂 Los Angeles can't even keep its own fires under control. And honestly, if you're gonna move because of a politician, shouldn't you just make sure you can vote first? It's like O'Donnell and DeGeneres left for Ireland and England because they were like "oh no, we don't like this new guy, let's go live in another country"... meanwhile, the rest of us are still stuck here with the wildfires. 🙄

I don't get why everyone's losing their minds over this 🤷‍♂️... I mean, sure, the wildfires were devastating and Newsom's handling of it wasn't great 🚒. But is LA really the only place that can offer a decent life? 🤔 It seems like people are just making a big deal about celebrities moving to Texas because they're "tired" of liberal policies 🙄... meanwhile, what about all the issues with healthcare, education, and economic inequality in those states too 🤑. And honestly, I don't think it's cool that some celebs are threatening to leave the US if Trump gets re-elected 😒... like, just stick up for your state of origin, you know? 🤷‍♂️

just saw this thread but lol what a joke 🤣 celebrities leaving LA because of wildfires? come on guys! i mean im not saying Gavin Newsom is doing a great job or whatever, but its just another example of how out of touch these people are with reality. newsflash: california has been burning for decades and you're all just now deciding to leave? 🤦‍♂️ texas might be more your speed but dont pretend like you're escaping some big ol' conspiracy theory 😂

I'm still waiting for some answers on what the gov really did to prevent those fires 🤔. Dye's not alone, I heard of other celebs leaving LA too... but then again, maybe they're just scared and don't wanna talk about it 😬. O'Donnell and DeGeneres moving abroad? Yeah, that one doesn't add up... like you said, if they can't even be bothered to vote, what's the point 🙄. And btw, 55k acres scorched is insane... hope the ppl affected are getting some real help 💸

I'm not surprised to hear Jeff Dye leaving LA, tbh 🤔. I mean, the wildfires were pretty intense this year and it's understandable that people would want to escape. But still, some celebs are drama queens 💁‍♀️. It's like, if you're gonna leave, own up to your words, you know? Dye's comments about O'Donnell and DeGeneres leaving for Ireland/England don't sit right with me either... like, they were all like "I'm outta here if Trump wins" but now they just chill in their new homes 🤷‍♀️. And on the other hand, I can see why Dye would be scared of Newsom's leadership - those wildfires were traumatic for LA residents 😕. Maybe some people are just getting a little too comfortable with their liberal lives and suddenly feel like "oh no, not me!" 💁‍♂️. Anyways, I think it's kinda cool that Texas is becoming the new Hollywood, though 🤘🌹

just saw this thread about Jeff Dye moving out of LA 🤔... gotta say, I kinda feel him 😒 all that fire stuff was super crazy last year & newsom's response (or lack thereof) was pretty lame 🙄 i mean, i get it, as a comedian he'd want to be able to make fun of people without being "scares the s**t outta me" 😂 but at the same time, can't we just have some competent leadership around here? 💡 texas seems like a pretty solid choice for him tho 🤠

aww man this is crazy 🤯 Jeff Dye is like one of those people who's really feeling the heat right now 😬 and it's not just about the wildfires, it's about the whole system failing him 🚧 I feel bad for the guy, he's just trying to protect himself and his family from what feels like a chaotic situation 🤯 and yeah, some people are more serious than others when it comes to leaving the country or making threats 💁‍♂️ but still, it's sad that it has to come down to that 🎭
