Serra High School made a strong statement in the Central Coast Section Open/Division I playoffs on Saturday, crushing Salinas 63-12. Senior Iziah Singleton had a standout game, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns. The win marked Serra's ninth consecutive shutout of their cross-town rivals.

At Wilcox High School, Sacred Heart Cathedral took down the Panthers 27-21 in a back-and-forth contest. Senior quarterback Tyler Morris scored a touchdown on a one-yard run to seal the victory for the Dons.

In another upset, Menlo School edged The King's Academy 32-31 despite trailing by four points midway through the fourth quarter. The Spartans managed to outscore their opponents 17-10 in the final minutes of play to secure the win.

Sobrato High School dominated Santa Cruz, winning 62-14 behind senior running back Michael Reyes' three touchdown runs. Reyes finished with 164 yards on the ground, leading his team to a convincing victory.

In the battle between Salesian and Northgate, the SaberCats narrowly outlasted their opponents 42-39 in overtime. Senior quarterback Dylan Lopez connected with wide receiver Eric Sanchez for a game-winning 20-yard touchdown pass in the extra period.

The first round of the Central Coast Section football playoffs saw several upsets and thrilling finishes. As the postseason continues, fans can expect more intense matchups between these talented teams.

OMG, what a weekend in CCS! I'm loving how some of the underdogs are giving it their all and causing major upsets . Menlo School's win over The King's Academy was insane, I mean who expects to come back from 4 points down to take the lead? And Sobrato High's dominant performance against Santa Cruz had me on the edge of my seat . Those Sobrato players are straight fire ! Ugh , another season of high school football, and it's all about one team winning vs another... where's the substance? I mean, a shutout win by Serra? That's not even the same as a real game anymore . Just a bunch of kids running around on the field with pads on, waiting to be tackled. And don't even get me started on the over-the-top celebrations when they score... it's just so cliché .

I'm also not a fan of how quickly these kids are expected to learn new plays and strategies. I mean, some of them can't even read the playbook yet . It's like, slow down, guys! Let's enjoy the game for what it is - sportsmanship, teamwork, and having fun .

And have you noticed how many times these articles mention " senior quarterback" or "senior running back"? Like, what happened to all the other players on the team? Are they just invisible?
