Cardi B's Lawyer Slams Security Guard's Bid for New Trial as "Absurd"
In a scathing response filed on Wednesday, lawyers for rapper Cardi B blasted a security guard's request for a new trial in her civil case, calling it "absurd" and "entirely frivolous". The guard, Ellis, had asked the court to grant him a new trial on grounds that the jury verdict was based on "patently false" allegations, including claims that Cardi allegedly cut Ellis' cheek with her fingernail.
Cardi's lawyers, Peter Anderson and Lisa F. Moore, argued that Ellis failed to establish any legitimate grounds for a new trial in his motion filed just last week. They pointed out that Ellis had based his claim on "speculation, knowingly false statements, and inaction", which are not recognized as grounds for a new trial.
Ellis' lawyer, Ron Rosen Janfaza, had claimed in his motion that his client deserved a new trial due to alleged errors by the court and that jurors might have been present outside the courthouse when a gossip blogger shouted questions at Cardi regarding her pregnancy. However, Cardi's lawyers said Ellis failed to raise these concerns during the trial and instead relied on "hearsay" and unproven claims.
In their opposition, Cardi's lawyers argued that Ellis had not presented any credible evidence to support his claims and that he was relying on "completely fabricated" stories. They also pointed out that Ellis' own lawyer, Janfaza, had admitted in court that the gossip blogger's words were not relevant to the case.
The jury needed only an hour of deliberation to hand Cardi a resounding victory on September 2. They found that Ellis had failed to prove her claims that Cardi assaulted her outside a doctor's office on February 24, 2018.

. I mean, come on, Ellis thinks he can just claim that Cardi B's team was trying to intimidate the jurors and get them to change their minds about him? That sounds super suspicious to me
